Liam’s Prayer According To And Lester
May 12th, 2012 by 'holic
It’s guest time again, and another ‘holic reveals that he has been hiding his light under a bushel. It seems he is getting all spiritual about tomorrow. I’m delighted to share it with you. Thanks AL.

Super AL.
Evening H2H
Evening Mr C.
Quick question is AL now short for ALmighty?
I’m with SirH2H and Steve T.
We’ll get what we deserve. I hope we get what I want. But, as Mick once sang…
Pull up your pipes and join me in the snug …
“And forgive us our stray passes……”
I’m going to throw a pint over myself in your honour, AL.
Quality praying 8)
Much as I love our AL, Holic, I was kind of expecting Robert Pires 😉
Heh, good work AL.
German Cup tonight, should be a good game.
And the pleasure to watch a football game purely for enjoyment.
A rare treat!
😆 zico
Well played Rev. Lester.
Should have put that on Goodpraya really ? 😉
@5 🙂
Shhhhhhhhhhh 😉
Heh, excellent Trev.
Chucklin’
Goodpraya, double heh.l
Trev 9, your coat
(yes I sniggered 😉 )
Jaysus, Bayern better play better next week.
1-0 Dortmund after 3 minutes.
thanks for the kind ones gents…
And sorry Zico, had to offer up my prayer for Sundee to my first in-the-flesh King Of Highbury. Whoever saw that lad pick a pass live usually understood immediately that he must be on first-name/card-school terms with the football gods. And he’s on our side still – soooo…
CoMONUReeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Good man Ollie. I’d forgotten that was on…
Apologies Zico back-drinking just got it – pardon…
T-Rev amen to that!
Funguscunt is doing his shopping in Germany.
Pelanty, 1-1
What a week. Spent most of it back-drinking then a long drive home last night, dragged out by the missus, out all day today and finally caught up.
Highlights of the last couple of days… a preview from the guv’nor, a guest piece and several excellent contributions straight from the heart of various regulars, also a disturbing infestation of trolls and muppets which, thankfully seems to have subsided.
Me, I’m finding it hard not to think about tomorrow’s matches. On the occasions that I give in, I find that I’m fairly confident we’ll get the right result although, it’s quite possible that we won’t.
Reasons to be confident: We are The Arsenal. We have tended to play well, even this season, when the chips are down. We are The Arsenal. Even if we don’t manage to get the job done ourselves, the shower from up the road have proved more than capable of making a mess of things themselves, and Newcastle United have a tough trip to Goodison. We are The Arsenal.
Reasons for worry: We are The Arsenal. Over recent matches, it’s turned out that we could have tied things up and we haven’t. We are The Arsenal.
So, basically, anything could happen. Fasten your seatbelts everyone it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Try to enjoy the ride for itself and until it starts remember that the chances are, everything will end happily.
CCMUED COYG
and
Up the Arse!
And so, after Arshavin, Eboue wins a League title.
and too kind of thee to put up what is but a bit of frippery and hopefully helpful distraction on my part – ‘h…
i’ll stop with the pseudo-luvvie thank yous now my darling, darling goonahs – but truth be told i don’t know what else to do with these bleedin’ nerves in the meantime. can’t watch football right now like some of yous – that jus’ reminds me of THAT… I know i’ll start with beer and see where that leads me…
Another penalty.
Zwei zu Eins für Borussia.
Drei nun.
Bayern defence is horrible.
Which reminds me we really need to finish 3rd. Bah.
AL, while zico pours a pint in your honour I will hold my c… ehhm, on second thought: forget that!

Can we have Borussia play the Champions League final?
Afternoon all (writing in from Brazil), avid reader first time (I think) commentator. Wanted to ask everyone what they thought about this quote from Wenger today saying he feels we deserve 3rd place. It’s not the first time he’s talked in terms of meritocracy and what we “deserve” from a season.
It worries me as I feel it pretty much sums up everything that’s wrong with the mentality of the team and by extension, the club. Wenger has this unedifying sense of having earned something regardless of performances and results. Generally I don’t buy into this “decisions even themselves out” rot as Man U have without doubt benefited year in year out more than anyone else. But on the whole we cannot complain too much about our league position this season, nor indeed the losses we’ve sustained. I can’t think of too many occasions of feeling robbed by refs or luck. We don’t deserve 3rd any more than Newcastle or Spurs, or for that matter Chelsea. All have had good and bad moments.
The fact we continue to slump having got into winning positions and more damningly take most of the bottom of the table teams for granted without fail season after season in my opinion removes us from the “deserving” third. We should/could have had it wrapped up by now but haven’t due to our slackness and arrogance. Newcastle have a much better claim to third in terms of deserving, playing out of their skin and well above their collective abilities. In addition we aren’t deserving because we play football “the right way”! Ignoring any form of defensive responsibility doesn’t make our football any better than the others, we tend to be one dimensional and tedious for large parts of games. Anyway this has turned into a bigger moan than I had intended. What are your thoughts on our position and whether or not we deserve third?
EZ
EZ, if we get third we will have deserved it on account of getting enough points to finish there. If we finish fourth or fifth then that is also what we deserve, we have had chances to secure third many times but have not taken them.
I still keep flipping between thinking we are going to make it and thinking we’ll muck it up and even finish fifth. But in any case I shall try to enjoy the day as much as I possibly can, there will be around 70 Gooners down the pub which means lots of old and new friends to talk to and share a pint with. Up the Arse!
4-2
5-2
Big fuck-up from Neuer, they’re going to hate him again in Munich.
Poland have a few good players, hat-trick for Lewandowski.
I know what you’re saying Lars I think we agree. I was trying, albeit in a roundabout way, to talk about this sense of deserving Wenger has regardless of the results. He often mentions we deserved more because we tried to play football etc. I just feel it’s a damaging mentality. Mines a pint of Admirals (God I miss a good ale).
Heh H2H above, as per mertesacker
And Lars – i might hold you to tha…oh no – that doesn’t work either…
Oh gawd, these pre big MATCH hours go slow – don’t they.
I’ve agreed to hook up with a football loving Arse agnostic for the game tomorrow – somehow feel like i’ve made the wrong decision, already. Tomorrow, i think, it’s probably just best to be among the faithful.Nevermind.Ureds!
That was Lars @ 26, that was…
That was quite impressive from Dortmund.
Gents
Just wanted to say that it’s been a real pleasure to share the happy train with you these last few months.
I’m sure there have been moments where each of us has considered disembarking at the next station and seeking an alternative form of transportation, but there has surely been no finer place to mull over the events of the season and no better company in which to commiserate our defeats and celebrate our triumphs.
Come what may tomorrow afternoon I will make my own personal peace with the outcome and look forward to August, when it will all begin again. We will still be the Arsenal, and that is the minimum requirement for me, and always will be.
No predictions from me, just a rallying cry. Come on Wenger. Come on RVP. Come on Kos and Tommy and Song and all the rest. Come on Arsenal, fuck the LWCs and let’s get this job done. I’d have bitten your hand off to be in this position back in September and I think these players have shown bottle aplenty to drag us to where we are. Now it’s time to administer the stake to the heart and put this rancid season down once and for all.
See you all on the other side. Come what may, remember you’re a Gooner.
OOHTOBE
Good Evening all you laid back holics. Al, always knew you had it in you. Indeed a welcome read!!!
Nice one, N7.
EZ_Gooner @ 29 Welcome. Do we deserve 3rd place. Hmm. If I were to put that question to Sagna, who broke the same leg twice this season, I wonder what his reply might be. Or Arteta, after proving to be the super glue to our team, only to be injured. Then there is the BFG who proved invaluable in our back four, how do they feel…anyone’s guess, I suppose. How do I personally feel? Here’s a clue. We should have been the team in the Champions League final.
N7, a pint on the bar from me to you.
N7
“Seeking alternative means of transport”?
Here’s a word from our sponsor…..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHkKJfcBXcw
Fucking wonderfully put AL.
Same goes for you N7.
I’m not worried.
I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried. I’m not worried.
Toby
No worries.
Zico.
Cheers.
The team that finishes third deserves to finish third. End of. The idea that Newcastle deserve it most because they weren’t expected to do this well is irrelevant and just patronising to them anyway.
I know Charlie. Doesn’t mean I can’t be nervous hoping we will earn it.
And point well made about Newcastle. They have done wonderfully well. No denying that. But to start giving them extra credit is m, as you say, patronising. They have earned every point and nothing should be given to them for free. They have been to good for that. Hope they get forth! (and that is after me being stuck in Newcastle in a cheap hotel on stag night. Not to fond of the city after that)
Oh yeah, nerves are understandable. Just reiterating what others have said, after 38 games the league table doesn’t lie.
Not disputing that, mate. And sorry for the spelling tonight. Trying to write on an auto”correcting” phone after too much Caol Ila.
thanks nurse, what Zee said @ 44 Toby, well played N7
still nervous, still praying – not long now…
Having read ‘Holic’s plea, in the previous post, to keep things in perspective should we not get the result tomorrow that we are all desperate for, I came across an article in Friday’s Daily Express that may help some of us to do just that.
As this story has already appeared in the national press, I’m sure there would be no objection to repeating some of it here.
I was drawn to the article by the photograph of a beautiful 13 year old girl called Jemima Layzell, initially due to the uncanny resemblance she bore to a lovely lady, and friend of Snir’s, I had the pleasure to meet at The Tollie before the Newcastle game.
Jemima died recently after suffering a massive bleed to her brain caused by a ruptured aneurysm.
According to her parents, she was a lovely, clever, funny, compassionate and creative young girl. A brilliant artist but who wanted to be an author. At her tender age she had already written many poems, songs and stories, and serious thoughts about how she would like to help people when she died by being an organ donor.
Since her death her heart, liver, lungs, pancreas, kidneys and bowel have saved the lives of eight people aged between three and forty.
She has also donated eye tissue which will help two more people to see.
A story of real tragedy and, at the same time, hope.
Those of us with children, and others who have lost those dearest to them, will come some way to understanding how such a loss feels.
It cannot even begin to compare with missing a season in the Champions League.
There are doubtless other Jemimas in the world.
Spare a thought for them if we lose tomorrow.
jus’ popped over to twitter for first time in a few…see tabs has been pulling the chain of the ignorant, not so fluffy, pandery one – v funny…maybes this season will fall into place reeeeet at the end after all
While we are coming down to the last day of the season, I would like to offer a big thank you to Goonerholic for another great season of blogging and good cheer. What a wonderful service you are providing, sir. Tip of the hat and the glass to you.
I’m scared.
Shut the fuck up Snir!
“Newcastle deserve it most because they weren’t expected to do this well is irrelevant and just patronising to them anyway.”
Clearly they were your hot tip for third place when the season kicked off, and their previous season’s rise from the lower division passed you by. You find me a single magpie who feels patronised by my post and I will gladly get down on my knees and humbly beg their forgiveness.
I’m trying to ask a question about Wenger’s constant use of the word “deserve” when we’ve hit some kind of setback as a symbol of our overall malaise. Clearly this is lost in my original email. Apologies. I was perhaps appealing to the minority who were also paying to much attention to the minutiae of the manager’s phraseology.
Fucking brilliant stuff!
And Newcastle can go fuck themselves with a rusty antelope.
EZ: You perhaps forget that English is not Arsene Wenger’s first language. He would be the first to admit that we do not deserve what we do not work hard for. He only wants what he feels we have earned on merit…
Anyway, its pretty fucked-up to be touting this line of reasoning on the eve of the most important game of the season don’t you think?..
Big, BIG GAME day – blimey – ComUREDS – back to bed?!
Right, all night I have had dreams about the game, and I must have woke up at least ten times. And I fucking love it! During the course of this last week, I have realized that I actually enjoy being this nervous. Emotional ups and downs is a massive part of the appeal of footie (or sports in general) and the funny thing is that I am really not scared of the consequences of finishing fourth or fifth. Yes, maybe we will lose a few players but we already have Podolski signed and hopefully Wilshere will be back next season so that’s a boost right there already. I still don’t think the Champions League or not is what decides it for Robin van Persie – it’s not exactly like he hasn’t played in it before so if he would want to move to a club where he thinks he could win the thing, well then he will move to Real or Barca (provided they even want him, not sure Real could fit him in to be honest, they have a truckload of attackers already but maybe Barca could be interested) regardless of where we finish in a few hours.
And Trev, thanks for sharing that story about little Jemima. I had not heard it before, and it is good to remind ourselves at times about what a luxury problem it really is to not have any bigger problems than being scared shitless over a football game.
It’s a beatiful, sunny day here in Stockholm and in about four hours I’ll be down the pub, hopefully in time to hog one of the outdoor seats, downing my first pint of the day while watching the Stockholm Gooners file in and then about an hour before the game we’ll all be marching down to the regular place where we’ll watch it all happen.
Up the Arse!
Limbering up, radio on – am hearing there are other games today too – who knew…
In a b-b in brumie and u get beer happy days 3 nil red army !!!!
Right, I think I am nervous now.
I’ll try to keep the nerves away by going to the supermarket, and later watch the Grand Prix.
Mostly staying away from the Internet Arsenal world before I switch the TV on football.
Am so adrenalized already think i’ll have to take the dog for a long, long, long run…right – where to get a dog from at this time?!?
It’s fever pitch day
There are plenty in brumie I will send u one !!
Ta Kev…one of them beers you’ve been talking about’ll be good too – never too early to start on a big GAME day, plus it settles the nerves so therefore must be a BMA sanctioned practice – i reckon
@EZ_Gooner
For me, when I say that it is patronising, I just mean that they don’t deserve it more for being Newcastle (ie a club nobody thought would be up there.) That would just be saying “Awww you little club, look how well you have done!” My point is that they deserve it for what they have done and how they have done it, not for who they are. Anyway, I think that in the end we are both saying the same thing.
In the best of worlds we, Newcastle and Bayern all win our games whilst the Totts lose. That would make me happy.
But at the moment the only important thing is winning our own game today. Or at least giving all, so we can be proud of the effort.
Esso!
Up for it mate, up for it…
Esso, well put. Today we should only look to ourselves. The only reason I’m even having some slights thoughts about Newcastle is because them getting the right result today could mean a certain other team would be fucked with something worse than a rusty antelope – missing out on the champions league and being stuck with Redknapp as manager.
Indeed in with the baggies how long will we last ??
What Esso said @57 🙂 🙂 🙂
Trying to be calm here . . . . . it’s not working
Esso pumped – played sir!
Trev, that story gave me chills.
I’m so tired that I had to read it twice to make sure you weren’t talking about Aliya herself!
Hey Bartender!
How does one get to be a fully-paid up member of the Church of AL ?
What a preacher . Top stuff Sir ! 🙂
Now for a bit of back-drinking …
Have you seen the light, Brother TaBS?
I’m going with the 05/06 kit today. About the same situation going into the last match of the season and it ended well that time. And yes, of course it says Ljungberg on the back.
From “An Old Familiar Feeling” drinks:
GT @ 152,
“This is a true story from my friend who runs British Airways here in Jamaica. I dedicated it to my boy Hurricane:
After arriving in Jamaica for the second time in a week – after being refused entry to the UK, US and France. The Airline has run out of options when a man is again refused entry into Jamaica! Tired and bedraggled after days of travel the poor man says that all he wants to do is return to Nigeria, but he has no papers, no money and no one can confirm his nationality. The Jamaican customs authority is suspicious and don’t want to be stuck with him in Jamaica. So the Nigerian High Commissioner is summoned but as soon as he enters the room he exclaims: ‘This is a Nigerian – even the nose!’
Case solved!”
😆 😆 😆 This made my morning, thanks mate :’)
Shaft @ 168 on Pat, well said.
bt8b @ 171 with the Wenger Lasagne link, that’s why I love our manager, what a guy 😀
Toby @ 191/242, excellent rant on Usmanov & Abramovich, I want the Arsenal to play the right way & win things honestly, one of the things, maybe the most prominent that attracted me to Arsenal Football Club like a moth to candlelight. Nice Century as well @ 200 🙂
Zico @ 224, inspired rallying call 🙂 By Guinness & Valium, of course 8)
Doctor Faustus @ 235, should we start calling you Professor? 🙂 No offence Edwin 😉
From “Focus On Doing What You Want To Achieve – Arsene” Drinks:
My first full season as a ‘Holic bar-pre-season, I found 3 of the best Arsenal Blogs this season, but this one means the most to me out of all of them, thanks Holic for all the posts & kind words & pearls of wisdom :’)
Great drinks from everyone but Tim @ 18, Thundertinygooner @ 25, H2H @ 36 :), bt8b @ 39, tabs @ 40/41/42, Arsenal1971 @ 58, Mr C @ 78 & Steve T @ 80 really touch the heart, up the Arsenal 😀
From “Liam’s Prayer According To And Lester” Drinks:
Firstly, AL that’s an excellent interpretation of the Lord’s Prayer, and I’m a Christian so I would know 🙂 Hopefully the Big Guy up there approves & is backing the mighty Arsenal today, only he knows how many chances he’s given us to get into this position an’ all! I type this in Church on my Blackberry with this season’s Home Shirt underneath a Smart Cardigan, hoping & praying for divine intervention for the match & for my upcoming exams 💡 I’ve worked hard since the 2nd half of the season & so have the Arsenal, so it should all pay off for both of us 🙂
Oxon @ 21, 😆 What a great drink, quintessentially Arsenal! 😀
EZ @ 29, interesting points but I’m with Lars @ 30, you do what you must to get the points and those points you ascertained will give you the position you might not ‘deserve’, but the one you earned.
N7 Gooner @ 37, that drink goes for me as well, I’ll always love the Arsenal 🙂
abb @ 40, woah 😮 Nice one Nurse 😉
Trev @ 51, Thanks for that. Instills humility & understanding that can temper the burning soul. Hopefully Jemima rests in some of the highest levels of peace.
Esso @ 57, 😆
Lars @ 60, on some levels, I agree with you, haven’t felt like this since the Penalty Shootout against United back in ’05 or when we were a man down but a goal up against B*rca back in ’06 🙂
UTA Indeed.
Toby @ 68, that’s the perfect scenario indeed, but the Arsenal come first every time 😛
Back-drinking… Complete 🙂 No time to rest, off home early from Church, then off to the Bank so I can pay in the money to potentially buy this beauty for a early birthday present for myself 😉 store.nike.com/gb/en_gb/?CP=EUNS_SH_Google&l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-300/pid-407808/pgid-407808 then off to the Library for Revision till 3:00pm, then onto the Library’s Computers to watch the big game.
Oy vey… 😛
Trev @9 heh 🙂
N7 @37- Lovely stuff . Can I also extend my thanks to all at the Bar for sharing their thoughts on the highs and lows of the season, and for the humour which always comes to the surface even when things were bleak . No better place to be on the Internet to ruminate on all things Arsenal.
Moving stuff Trev . Bill Shankly’s famous quote was of course wrong . Lets hope that if things don’t go to plan, the bile and abuse will be held in check . A forlorn hope probably but a very wise sentiment nevertheless.
AL @52 – Couldn’t help myself I’m afraid , such an easy target 😉
Esso 🙂 🙂
Lars , glad to see I wasn’t the only one who had disturbed sleep patterns last night . I dreamt that I was running around the Supermarket in just me Speedoes being pursued by an evil triumvirate of Graham Roberts , Jeff Astle and Alan Pardew . They caught up with me in the aisle selling frozen peas . I was in the middle of clubbing them into unconsciousness with me Jimmy Choos when I woke up .
Make of it what you will ! 😉
I certainly have Father Holic !!! 🙂 🙂
Travelling in from the country today. Timings mean that I will be forsaking the usual Away juicer of choice and will find myself a juicer in Holoway Rd/Highbury to watch the whole thing unfold.
If any of the usual crew fancy celebrating/suffering together , let me know .
Afternoon gooners.
Well, this is it.
No more fucking about, no more finger pointing, no more second chances, no more excuses.
Ninety minutes, one game, one target; the three points needed to finish off the season in a satasfactory manner.
Nothing else matters.
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!
Oh the nerves…Come the fuck on Arsenal! Let’s do this thing
About the telecast, since I don’t think it’s being shown live for Asian holics if anyone has got a decent sopcast link come KO time, please do post it in the drinks
I have my usual sources for streams but just in case 😉
Hopefully we won’t need your intervention today, but Bergkamp, if you are listening, please tilt the world in our favour and move goalposts as need be if things aren’t going too well.
@ Harsha
Live on ESPN HD
Does it feel like a cup final? Why else did I just wake up at 350am local time?
Now what?
Come on you reds!
Bless yous brothers tabs and wind – tabs would’ve come along and sinned with you in holloway if i’d known – sadly stuck south now with fine but misguided folk of an unother flock…
No worries AL – have a good one .
“an” – ah fuk it – unother does the job – and that’s all that’s required today brothers and sistas (you know who you are) amen!
backatchyer tabs – and all congregated in these here mighty fine parts…
AL @ 88, no problem mate, good luck with those misguided folk 😉
And the SUN’s over the yard-arm, time to spill a pint i feel…where’s Drs F through to Zee?!?
And the last “first” century of the season hoves into view … 😎
Dr C pestering nurses .
Dr F reading porn .
Dr Z looking for the sun .
Speedoes pressed and looking good , Jimmy Choos freshly polished.
Last day of the season is always fancy dress day so I am topping off the whole ensemble with a natty policeman’s helmet which I normally only wear in Bed . 😎
Wind p’raps by the end of this sundee they’ll have seen the error of their ways (everything crossed – if you know what i mean)
Psed nice to see the medical team are getting stuck into their pre-match rituals and loosening up nicely for what looks like being a busy one
Parachutes into the penalty area from a passing Red Arrow…
Lays it up…………

Fuck ! 🙂
Well in Toby .
Afternoon H2H .
I’m back at my usual spot of 101 .
Surely a good omen ?!
GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY .
COME ON THE ARSENAL !!!!!!!!!
Afternoon Tabs, well in Toby with the anthem.
But like RvP said this week, “it’s a team game” 😉
Indeed tabs! 😀
Well in Toby, you’ve been on fire lately! 😉
And AL @ 97, haha, I get you 🙂
All good strikers have a bit of an egoistic streak, H2H 😉 And I didn’t want to miss the chance to bang on the Anthem now. Love it how they big up Pat in it. Fucking right. I’ll behave from now on!
Great link for the century Toby, I’m all fired up! 🙂
That was the 99,995th drink. 😮
Heh, I’m not stealing the 100 000th. Passing the chance forwards…
And that was the 99,996th.
Making this the 99,997th. Momentous indeed 🙂
Toby bumped it up to 99,998, making this the assist for the 100k Drink…!
BANG
What did I win?
Well in Lonestar! Its an amazing achievement, is the barman available to answer this query from the 100k Drinker? 😛
Lonestar?
Bouchra is a goona;

well in Toby @ 100 AND H2H @ 100,000 – with tabs @ 101 too – surely ALL good omens – amen to that…
Amen indeed Rev’ AL and may I be so bold as to add a hallelujah.
COME ON ARSENAL.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/12/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-interview-arsenal?CMP=twt_gu
Good one Amy, well in The Ox, and Roy shows what a nice chap he is yet again. There is room for some gracious people in football, still.
Re: Tabs @96. Today you’re sounding a little bit like ….Wolfie??
Which reminds me, what is the little bugger up to today?
…not that Roy being a nice chap is stopping me in any way, shape or form from hoping we absolutely murder WBA today.
Great stuff AL, hallowed be thy name.
With or without St.Totts, I think this has been a highly memorable season with some magic moments made extra special by the boys and girls of The Arsenal Faithful that I have had the pleasure to meet.
I’m secretly hoping that Stevie Bould is joining Pat and Arsene in the dressing room today to help with the pre-match preparations.
Come on you Super Gunners. Everyone is behind you today. Do if for Pat, do it for Arsene, do it for the boys and girls of TTF, do if for yourselves but above all….. JUST DO IT!
UTA! Come on you Gunners! Come on you ‘Holics!
H2H, I’m so sorry! 😆 I must be more tired than I’m letting on 😕
Congrats H2H* (;))
Well done H2H. Pour yourself a pint from me 😉
Pig and Whistle in Brisbane for today’s game. midnight kick off. “We’ve got 15 beers on draft, mate”
“Haddock and chips supper after the game?”
“Sorry, mate. No haddock. We can do you a barramundi though”
Thinks – “Shit. What the hell is a barramundi? Do you eat it, fight it or throw it? What would TaBS andZico do? Give me a dissertation on solids are for wimps or some such piss. Are baramundis solid?” As always, invoking the wisdom of Dr Z and Wolfgang leads only to frustration.
Responds – “Baramundi? Lovely, mate. See you at midnight”
So. Not the Tollie, but the Pig and Whistle it is.
Bless you brother TS, and Hell Yeah! with the hallelujahs H2H
psed scouring for bits and bobs of team news e.g. The-O – assume it’s a bit early for that then…
like it more please.
@ Rev AL
No team news yet but do do you know if is Szcz going to be passed fit?
Amen.
PS: Father Edwin is confirming no refunds today regardless of the final destination. Then again, bless you all for not asking for any! 🙂
Amen, amen.
Cheers ‘holic, here’s to the next ton of drinks.
An hour to kick off, I said before I wasn’t nervous…..
I lied.
That pints gonna come in handy, think I’ll need to drink with a straw though.*hands shaking*
COME ON YOU GUNNERS.
Are we all going religous?
BtM, so glad you are with us on this, of all days.
Give my regards to Bruce. All of them 😉
Brother TS i have no word from on high so far – but be assured there’ll be special prayers said asking that the right pole in the goal be delivered unto The Arse. And if that’s not poss then smallish mercies will be thanked that at least it won’t be the flying Spaniard in there this time – peace/pipe!
Szczesny, Jenkinson, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Santos, Rosicky, Song, Coquelin, Benayoun, Gervinho, Van Persie.
The Corporal is starting. Proper gooners on the pitch. No Walcott, sadly.
Subs: Fabianski, Djourou, Gibbs, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Ramsey, Chamakh.
Quite a scary bench though for tired WBA legs.
Best starting eleven we could have for this game. Thrilled with Coq at CM.
corporal Jenkinson in along with pele’s old side, the slightly bonkas Brazilian – at FB. And coq through the middle – BIG surprises
ComoNUreds!
didnt hear the keeper though
Jenks, Santos and Le Coq drafted in, I don’t think many of us could have called that. Glad to see Woj made it.
Cheers, BtM.
Midnight kickoff with barramundi to follow after sampling each of the 15 draft beers. Sounds like it could be worth a trip ’round the world … if Arsenal can top it off that is. 🙂
Well in Toby – looks like AW’s going for it!
I’m agreeing with you to 99% Snir. Not sure about not starting Walcott. The amounts of assists he has had this season I would liked to have a fit Walcott on. But if he is somewhat lacking, I guess we couldn’t have asked for a better starting eleven now.
Tabs is back at 111,
BtM is orbiting the world at Warp III,
H2H is in with the double-dutch,
@Holic is capable only of the odd brief word, such is the power of Tullamore Dew,
Snir doesn’t know if he’s ‘up’ or ‘down’,
True Storey, Prof Edwin are pre-announcing ‘no refunds’,
Toby is not toby taken lightly, serious as usual,
in fact, everything is ‘as usual’,
only zico is missing, presumed paralytic – is that ‘usual’ or not ?
oh well, “it’s up for grabs NNOOOWWWW’
COME ON YOU RREEEDDDDSSSSS!!!!!!
Coq through the middle AL – can’t beat it ! 😉
Glad to see you’re joing us Trev.
COYRRR’s
*joining.
Damn these jitters.
Wow that was a surprise, Jenko Santos and Le Coq.
Now for a 2 goal lead at Ht and 3-0 after 90 please. I don’ think my nerves will be able to handle if it goes down to the wire.
COYG
@137 – I did H2H.
Jenks came on after a long lay off and did a fine job recently.
Coq’s energy vital at CM.
Great selections methinks – but what do I know ?
Are we playing today ?
HEH
I know this is in hindsight but the only surprise
is santos for Gibbs. Jenkinson had to start and the coq
had to start in his favoured position to sort out west brom on the break
as they are stronger than Norwich on the break…
Off to the game!!! Cmon you gunners!
PHW.
Yes 4 fucks sake! I want arsnl 2 play well today. I need champs legue footie next season….!
Harsha,
sopcast 122909 is supposed to be showing it. Currently at Celtic. Good stream.
@ Trev
If paralised was half as nice…… 😉
Come on you rip roaring Reds….
Let’s get this done….
Zico in da house.
COME ON YOU REDS
Mind if I share this afternoon with friends? Turned off every other means of communication.
Chocolate starfish quivering a bit now…
Ben Foster not in goal for the Baggies.
The plesure will be alll ours, ‘holic.
Foster got ‘Frimponged’?
You are so welcome ‘Holic.
ATVO showing us letting in loads of goals from counter attacks (Villa, Man C, Norwich) and then, now, with 15 minutes left til the last game of the season, they are showing an interview with our very own BFG, talking about his first season and his preparations for the Euros.
Now – I enjoy Per as much as the next gooner. Well spoken and calm. And I do believe we have to work on stopping counter attacks.
But for fucks sake – show something else! Arsenals top 30 goals would do. Or goals against the Baggies. Get us fired up now!
The Emirates is remarkably empty if we have a match ?!?
Injured in training according to the beeb.
Well there’s still 8mins to kick off old chap.
Superb last couple of posts!
Thanks for a season of measured and insightful assessments of our team and nurturing a blog where most of us feel the same way about the mighty Arsenal.
Whatever happens, next season will surely be better for our health and regardless of the result, we are The Arsenal!
Can’t remember feeling this nervous…
Go downstairs to club level, Peter. Apparently it is heaving for the live showing. Yes, we’ve never won a live showing at the Emirates, so what do they do 🙁
Come on Arsenal.
Come on Arsenal.
Come on Arsenal.
COYRRR”SSSS
Greetings one and all.
Btm. Weren’t the Baramundis a band??????
Brave decision with Le Coq. Glad to see him in. Love his energy.
Going to try and find a stream but being the techno twat that I am I am not confident.
Right, bring it on. 90 mins of graft boys. let’s make it ours.
Come on you reds…..
Big Hehs! @ Trev, H2H, Al & ‘Holic
Holy chocolate starfish Robin, to the HT, there’s not one minute to grab now!

WELL SO THE FUCK ARE WE!
Benayoun!!!
Sopcast above, Matt.
Fuck, LWC’s one up already.
Fucking stream died . Missed the goal. Anyways COYG.
So glad Ben Foster isn’t in goal today.
YOSSI!
I love the away support. Best in Europe by a country mile.
Yossi !! 1-0
Come on you reds
(and spuds are ahead too)
The Arsenal away support I mean.
Indeed SlaSh.
Listening in on Arsenal Player, these library computers are cutting out all the links 🙁
FUCK NOOO
Surely offside
Damn, Long’s offside and its 1-1.
Offside you blind cunt lino…
The dumbfuck blind linesman the fuck was he doing?
Offside – shit – again!
well offside…what the fuck
No NO NO
BOLLOCKS
Fuck off, no.
Two counters two goals ffs
Fuck me it’s the Norwich game once again.
SHIT!
Norwich all over again NOOOOO
Well fuck me sideways -_-
such an awful non call…as I watched that unfold I didn’t care what Long did as it was so obvious he was offside. Can’t believe it….fucking hell another goal
horrible defending…
jesus…
come on Arsenal
COME ON YOU GUNNERS
Everton scores against Newcastle.
Barcodes 1 down – Come on Arsenal FFS . .
Come on Arsenal….loads of time to get this sorted.
We are better than this side…let’s show it.
COME ON!!!!
Rosicky starting to influence it. Better.
Out of the last 7 shots on target against us, 5 have been scored. We need to sort that.
Listening now. Cant get the hang of this stream malarcy.
So glad I’m not on Twitter. Bet it is firing smoke out of any machine logged in.
Let’s see our backline keep shape and for goodness sake sit a bit deeper…..maintain control and set the pace of this.
We miss Walcott pegging back their full backs
C’mon RVP
Come on RVP.
Fulop is like a nervous kitten….we need to keep exploiting that surely
Get in santos
Santos!
Barcodes down 2
Everton 2 up……
Santos. Get in…….
What a great gay!!!!!!
Fucking come on you gays. 🙂
Santtooooooossssss
Santos!!!
SANTOS YOU BEAUTY!
ST. TWO SAINTS brothers and sisters!!!
Lord be praised !!!!
BRAZIIIIIIIIIIIILL
Now can we defend for the next five minutes ffs
Is that going to be the Gay-me changer??
Love you Andy two saints. What a gay.
WOW!! Santos earns his start.
Thank fuck….Come on Arsenal
Not a Trevor Francis fan, but he is right about the goalkeepers today. Shite, the pair of ’em.
This looks like a 5-4 match…let’s get to 5 lads
This is awful — can’t get a stream anywhere, missed all the goals. What radio station are you listening to Slash?
do you have Sopcast Matt? Channel 124340
Let’s try (just once) to launch an attack down the left…
Was the challenge by the Captain bad?
Good working back by the much-maligned Gervinho.
Not that bad, clumsy, striker’s challenge.
Thanks Tim
still having heart in my throat when west brom are attacking, come on guys…slow the game down a bit …lets finish the half time on positive note
Song thinks he is Zidane again 🙁
This is all set up for The Ox to come on and bomb in 3-4 from outside the area with 8 minutes to go.
Fucking Lino this side wants stringing up. He is either crooked or blind.
Half-Time, I’m more calm than I would expect.
Messy messy messy…..so similar to last week. We’re still in it. 45 mins to make this season end on the right note.
Come on lads, keeping singing away Gooners.
Jenkinson to get a cross in for our next goal.
Testing. Why am i banned??
I think Jenks played him onside on the last one. Shore-up the back and we should be okay.
Seems am not anymore. The linesman definitely needs a kick up the arse. And when is olsson gonna be booked??
2 goals away from home against a team like this should normally secure 3 points. As ever we need to do that bit more. Come on Arsenal.
Remember who got the first goal of this campaign for us? In another CL qualifier? He might just get one today as well.
I appear to be drinking with the handbrake off. Big 2nd Half – COYR.
Game plan;
Score more then we let in.
COME ON YOU REDS
Wow. We look much more scared the confident- neither goal out of any build up, everyone’s looking a bit hesitant (besides Benny)… we gotta pull this together! Come on Arsenal! I expect half time to calm them down though- I hope they come out ROARING!
@ Matt- I’m using first row tv for a stream
@ Tim- I think the challenge was worse than striker clumsy- RVP did the wrong thing there, and he admitted it straight out.
Sign. Benny. Up.
Let’s hope Pat Rice told them what’s expected in 2nd half
Or. Bevin!
Nobody has been banned. A couple of you are trying to post links the spam filter doesn’t like.
I’ve just tested them and they don’t work either.
I hope that Arsene will have influental half time team talk, there is still plenty of time to score the much needed goal, its still game on so I hope they will come out and play. Lets just be patient and the goal will come …Ox and Theo are bound to come on, stretching their defense creating opportunities..just, play well defensively!
Walcott on
@Piresisking – I do think it (just) merited a yellow, the contact wasn’t as dramatic as the defender made out. Yes it was daft.
Let’s hope he doesn’t take a shot after not hearing the whistle in this half eh?
Can the league play 3 more games this season so Villa have time to get relegated? 🙂
Come on Fulham – you only managed 3 shots in the first half. Must do better.
TR7 down?….surprising
@Matt: Firstrow sport was working some time back. Am back stream hunting now.
Link please ??
@Holic: I got scared there for a moment.
Tim thats one more then West Brom had.
Not a foul he blew out his hammy
How the fuckk do you injure yourself diving? Morrison off with a windburn?
WBA lose their best player.

I think I luv him.

YESSSSSSSSSS another scrappy goal…..I’ll take it !
Now to hang on to what we got, Barry Manilow styleeee
Pat Rice pumps his fists 🙂
Right then….we definitely need a 4th
Fucking love it… Come on Kos you beauty.
The Ox for Gervinho should be the next change. Don’t think its going to be his day.
“Joey Barton has lost it here in a major way. After he is shown a red card, Barton knees Sergio Aguero in the back of the leg, that sparks a major melee, he tries to headbutt Vincent Kompany before tangling with Manchester City substitute Mario Balotelli. Madness! At least three red cards for Barton in that lot.” BBC.
And that is after QPR scores 1-1
This referee is taking the piss 🙁
I am shit scared of the parallels between this and the last game. Come on gunners. Sorry to point this out but the nerves are absolutely on the frikin edge.
And Barton is just a mong. What a disgrace to his club.
That cheater Defoe has put the Spuds 2-0 up, we need to keep this solidarity.
LWC’S two up.
Fuck the LWC’s. This has to be about us.
25 to go. Just keep the ball………
Preach Brother Steve T.
Just keeping you in the picture, Steve 😉

Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal! Kos slip?
That’s made up for the two that went in. played Szczes.

Fuck me, listening to this on Arsenal player is killing me. This will take 10 years off my life.
Gibbs is on for Gervinho since earlier. So he’s playing left back now.
Well done Song! But where was Gibbs?
Benayoun has been immense. Man of the Match for us, Santos was awesome as well.
thanks, toby. COME ON ARSENAL!! DEFEND as if 3d place was on the line….oh, wait.
Can’t stand this. If there is a late twist we are the only ones a goal away from our target.
FFS can we get possession of the damn ball?

Steve T @ 320, same here, and I’m young. Oh Jesus give me strength.

Happy St Totteringham’s Day!!!
Third place from seventeenth in September…for all well known problems and limitations, that is indeed a significant achievement.
Would have been perfect if only RVP could have broken the 31 goals record. Can’t complain.
Time to celebrate … rounds of Lagavulin and Remy Martin Accord Royal on me…
I think we have found our second string GK for next season.
Secret Agent Fulop. Welcome to The Arsenal!
Happy ST Totteringham’s Day, mates!
BMBD ad saeculae seculorum
Best season in a long long time! Happy St Tott’s day!

Leaps like a salmon to nod it back into the box……
Hits a screamer – top corner!
Well done Steve T!! Deserved for all the hard work this season mate
Fuck me, its gone in………
Deflects off Nelly (0;
Cheers GT, although it must have just drifted in.
Get to the bank Defoe you pathetic dullard lwc.
Well in Steve T.
Meanwhile somewhere in a bar in Holland punters are lookin on in confusion as to way an English guy has been running around like a headless chicken for the last 40mins.
Drinks on the bar on me lads.
*Changes back to original monniker convinced that divine intervention came through the holy name*
Woo-hoo!!! Happy St Totteringham’s Day, my first in the bar! 😀 I wish I could get pissed, but I have an Biology exam tomorrow 😕 Might go & console my Man Utd supporting brother with a bottle of his Absolute 8) Might laugh at his depair 😆
All that matters to me is that Arsenal are 3rd Place in the Barclays Premier League, and that T*ttenham are indeed, shit 🙂
3rd Best in England, the BEST in London!
Jesus Christ Reading through the Drinks you’d have thought it was on a knife edge, We were home and hosed for 3rd place in November 😉
Massive win that and let’s hope lessons have been learned and we are fully active this summer the signs are good with Podolski already being signed up just need the 2-3 more that will make us proper challengers!
All that’s left us to wish one and all a Happy St Tottenhams day 🙂
Oh and come on Bayern!!! Then Whoever the LWCs get in the qualifiers
Well, Happy St Totts day one and all !
Afraid I baled out at 1 – 2 down ‘cos every time I follow a game in this bar, it turns into disaster.
Had no working stream so resorted to the garden with the radio and we immediately scored.
The rest we all know – I am more exhausted than the players, FACT!!!
Cheers ‘Holics. Relax and enjoy the summer. 😉
his from the BBC:
“On an afternoon when there were cheers at White Hart Lane at West Brom’s goals, and silence greeting Arsenal’s strikes as the scores from the Hawthorns filtered through, [the teeny-tiny Totts] were left in a state of European flux”
Natural order of the universe has been restored..
Keep in touch, Wenger…
Thank you her nellieness, a more than welcome visitor 😉
Am I the only one to remember that it was GoonerTerry who called St Totts day when we were still up shit stream?
Gosh thank you Nige..8-)
😎
Well done lads – Heart attack stuff
Does it piss anyone else off that after our 3rd wenger just sat on the bench like a lemon, when he could have been barking orders to shape our defense, rally the players?
wind@79 – very late, sorry, football got in the way.
Thank you, I’m touched. I think you may be too. 🙂
Holy2Holy – heh…Still Thired. UREDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DaveN@418. Nope.
What I would give to be sitting on the Totteringham Street sipping a pint and watching the Lillywhite cunts file out of Shite Heart Lane in despair..
Happy St Totts!
And – err, praise the saints!!!!!!
Started making the lasagna now. Ice cold Grape and Tonic in my hand.
DaveN: Wenger was a having a heart attack – just like the rest of us! Anyway, I prefer when he sits his arse down and keeps quiet…the team seems to settle better when he is calm..
http://youtu.be/vK5GZKtSdy8
AW confirms Woj hasn’t trained in five weeks and needed injections to play through a shoulder injury.
Only one question remains to be answered now.
Did PHW get to see any of the game?
And praise be to Liam…
WTF 2 goals WBA, Wagner as a lemmon didn’t shout at the defence, RVP did not score- useless, Song did not cover- sell him, did Jenks even played- sell him, Walcott doesn’t have a football brain- get rid of him, and Le Grove has so much to write about, tommorow.
Wagner out!
And oh, everybody spare a thought for Danish Gooner today.
I wonder if he will still be with Sunderland next seaso… oh, they are not one and the same you say?
Happy St. Totts. Easy as pie!
Anything you want to share with us, Paulie?
Thought not…
The Right Reverend AL…
http://youtu.be/sCXEtvbJkkY
Just came off one of the busiest working weeks of my life, all along having the game at the Hawthorns in the back of my mind. My cable TV in Indonesia only has the two Manc teams on live tonight, no stream was working for me, so I had to settle for Blog’s nail biting liveblog. At least I had my girlfriend’s nails to bite on after mine was quickly finished when we went down 2-1. Typical Arsenal, I thought. Still grieving the offside call we just had to concede another goal.
And yet goodness me, God bless our Brazilian idol Santos. At 2-2 I thought, surely we had to win this.. Or maybe not. You just never know with this Arsenal squad. Watching the liveblog on my iPad was killing me softly.
Oooooooohhhhhh.
I stood silent waiting for further comments… And after 10 seconds I breathed a huge sigh of relief.
Ssss
YESSsS
Yeeeeessssssssssss
I knew it was coming… The mighty Reds have scored! As I awaited the announcement, how fitting it was that Kos scored our winner from a corner. Not enough goals from corners, they would say in seasons past. Too many goalkeeping howlers, I would have said almost every passing game with either Manu or Flappyhandsky. Yet tonight to score from a header after a goalkeeping nightmare (or was it orgasm?) felt vindicating. Surely we deserved it by now. The “he’s having the game of his life” cliche for our opposite goalie was getting old by now.
To then manage to not concede another goal seemed miraculous, judging by the numerous nervy moments at liveblog. It seemed like we were about to break apart. It felt like the Arsenal had become a tinderblox, a time bomb waiting to explode.
FFSSSS
It’s over now
Fuckkkkkk
Wtf happened? I waited anxiously for almost half a minute, I had seriously pulled my hair and cursed excessively in thinking we had exploded yet again, only to learn it was justa freekick inches outside our box decorated with exaggerated comments. Heavens. It almost felt like we scored a goal for me, like somehow, we had avoided the imminent self destruction looming in the shadows of our ever-dodgy back four. Not much news from then on… And no news is exceptional news. By the time Dzeko scored on my Tele, and the stage was set for a gripping season finale, I learnt that RVP had missed a glorious chance, and Odemwanker scored a disallowed goal. Fuck off you Lino and cunt Refs, you ain’t taking St Totteringham’s away from us.
The tinderbox was a false alarm, and yet the alarm bells rang loud. Third place after an emotional rollercoaster. Not in any way glorious, but it is surely a cause for massive celebration unheard of in the final day of the past few seasons.
Yossi scored. And then Santos, and Kos to finish off. How very, very fitting. Yossi showed our players how hardwork, not just flair, earns you luck. Santos brought the feelgood factor back to our fullback lineup, the very picture of confidence, even though his defending was every bit as dodgy as the rest of the team. And Kos… You lovely lad. Written off last season, sufferred the League Cup final probably the most, and yet he came back this season like a champion. Held our defense by his fingernails for the most part of this season, came up big several times with crucial goals, and rightly celebrating a win this time of the year. His is the embodiment of our current squad and how we finally managed to respond to our critics.
Enjoy the win Holics. The faults in our squad is bare for all to see, let’s hope AW will learn from it this season. In fact I am sure he will. One of the most memorable seasons for me as a Gooner, partly because I finally found myself in a wonderful Blog to share my feelings for the Arsenal. Glasses for everyone, you lot. Sit back and enjoy. The players deserve it at the end of the day. And so do we.
Blessesd be St.Totts Day brothers & sisters. For it is written that there is and that there can only be one BIG CLUB in North London and that they can never wear the lillywhite shirt of those they call the
looting c*nts of Rottenham.
HAPPY ST.TOTTS DAY ‘HOLICS from Edwin and myself. It’s been extremely emotional and was NEVER IN DOUBT 🙂
Let the summer-long festivities commence.
Oxon @ 419, no worries 🙂 and indeed I was touched :’)
GT & others, you might want to follow Oxon’s lead & back-drink to my #79 😉
Lurky Oliva @ 431, 😆
Derrick @ 436, 😀
SG@428: in which case , I hope he doesn’t go to the Euros and wreck his shoulder for good. Give Fabianski the chance to show how good he really is. Might get us a better offer for him, too. These past few weeks, Woj hasn’t looked the keeper he was earlier in the season. He needs to heal to be ready for next season.
So much for the away clean sheet. Damn!
On the other hand, there was something positively gay about our second goal, and also about our third goal but in quite a different gay way. 🙂
And a happy St. Tott’s Day to one and all. Drinks all round, me thinks, and a glass raised to our inestimable barman.
The pictures are streaming in from my gooner friends.
http://bit.ly/Khg9K2
The one on the right is mine, still in the oven!
The one in the middle is from a gay that is having a bit of a busy day, so he must be excused for going for the ready made version.
So is it our tradition to eat Lasagna on St Totts day while the LWC’s sip their sour grape juice?
Off to work now, gays!
I can work in peace knowing the Spunk are in distress. Back to your hovels.
Drink up all. Let’s sign Robin. Let’s sign Theo. Let’s sign Yann. Let’s heal up, bed-in, charge-up and get some fucking silverware next year.
Come on you, Bayern.
BMBD.
I’d say that is a fair description about the yearly festival we call St Totteringhams Day.
Also. Booze is consumed. Gin and grape tonic is quite a deceptive drink. I can vouch for that.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4eXMpOtvD0
Has anyone heard from any Spuds? I can’t get any to respond. I will of course keep trying.
Holic, is Paulie back? I miss his bollocks. It makes me realise how fortunate I am.
The hard work starts tomorrow. But that job must be considerably easier having secured 3rd.
Happy St Totteringhams day all!!!
