They Came To Bury Arsenal, But…
Sep 2nd, 2013 by 'holic
The early morning sunshine promised a warm glow for those traveling to take up position in and around the ground for the North London derby. In the pub of choice the company was great and the mood was good. Everybody asked the same question as they arrived. “What do you think today then?” The response was unchanging. “I think we will win.”
And so we did, surprising the neutrals and some of the vultures in the press box who had come to bury Arsenal, not to praise them. The win surprised nobody who appreciated beforehand that this would be a match between a team that has been coming together for some time now, comfortable with their more flexible approach to matches, and an assembly of mercenaries financed by the sale of their over-valued talisman.
The surprise came in the manner of the victory. Arsene, I imagine, had considered the fact that the opponents came into the match with just two Premiership goals from the penalty spot to their name. Develop they may, but for now in open play they are all bark and no bite. Arsenal sat ten men behind the ball when the visitors had it, and defied them to find a way through a superb defence. Invariably we just took the ball away and broke with impressive speed. We have seen this before, when Chelsea and Manchester United have humbled us at the Grove on occasion.
Tactically Andre Village Idiot had no response. His new battalion of six footers stumbled around like new born foals. Arsenal, inspired once again by the outstanding Aaron Ramsey and Santi Cazorla simply rope-a-doped them. It should be emphasised though that in order for that tactic to come off you need a striker who can keep the ball up top while the midfield marauders join in. Olivier Giroud was just outstanding in this role, and added yet another goal to his growing tally with a sumptuous flick.
At the whistle I looked up and around the stadium. What a pleasure it was to see virtually everybody still in place and cheering raucously. For the true man (and woman) of the match was you, and you, and you. The support throughout was incredible. The post-match Guinness and champers sent this amateur scribe home to sleep the sleep of the just, and thankfully not on the train.
Now for deadline day. Come on Dick, don’t disappoint us. Build on that small, but outstanding, squad for us please.

I hate this day.
Passes the ball upfield…
Have it! I love this day! Even with a fucking stupendous hangover.
@DTguardian: Just to put this one to bed, Man Utd are definitely not taking on Arsenal for Mesut Ozil. #MUFC #AFC
Thin line between hate and love Esso. Thin line. Much thinner than I hope our squad will be by the end of this day.
Manchester Utd tell SSN they are not interested in signing Ozil.
Ha!
I feel giddy, sick, excited, worried, trepadatious, like I need a poo…
SSN made a lot of bets in this half an hour, running the Ozil to United story. 🙂
I dont give a flying fuck about the transfer window. We beat the ultimate scum yesterday. Convincingly. That’ll keep me going for a while.
@RYO_cleverfish: GFN:Park Chu-Young now looking likely to stay at Arsenal
he is happy to sit on his wages without first team football
http://t.co/egAYWP9Inp
Good post Guv’nor
10; And we thought we’d almost got rid of most of that type at AFC too! Still, be nice to have one player available for the league cup games.
A fitting report of the match guvnor. I’m still basking in the warm after glow. The team, the management and the supporters came together as one and rightly sent the upstarts back to the swampland where they belong. If today can be equally successful in the transfer market, a season of opportunity beckons.
@JWTelegraph: Focus for Arsenal today is midfielder/strikers. Wenger happy with his defence
First signing in. Viviano passed his medical.
Fair enough, Esso, fair enough. Having that said, they weren’t that big of a hurdle and I wouldn’t mind compounding that victory with a transfer or two to help me rub it into the faces of spuds today, so see it that way?
Morning all.
Happy daze 😉
Nice one ‘holic, both blog and joke.
See you all on the other side.
@MickTheGooner: LATEST: Arsenal have agreed a £3m pay-off to get Niklas Bendtner out of the Club. TGSTEL is likely to join Palace (Mail)
I’m convinced we’ll sign Cabaye today. Just have that feeling. That said, it almost seems a shame to do so – LOVED having Flamini back in that role yesterday. What a return that was.
Is Cabaye a defensive minded midfielder? Thought he was more attack minded?
Till now, no German newspaper run an Ozil story. This is the first one, from usually reliable, Bild
Özil currently in talks with Arsenal about personal terms. Deal is for 5-6 years.
*boilk*
A perfect tale of a perfect day ‘H.
The crowd sounded absolutely magnificent from start to finish. Once again, we bossed them at The HoF.
…and HEH! for ‘Andre Village Idiot’. It looks like he does a great Tony Pubis impersonation too.
The most reliable info on Ozil this morning seems to be from Fjortoft, as confirmed by Honigstein.
“Just got this confirm from person close to Özil-family:Talks right now with Arsenal about player’s deal. 5/6 yrs deal.”
Suspect it’ll come down to wages.
Re: Cabaye – he’s a technical player but he knows how to leave his foot in. I think he’d work well as part of a double pivot with Ramsey.
If yesterday showed us anything, it’s that the cost of playing with 6 foot plus bruisers at DM is that you lose mobility and that passing groove. Which is why very few of the top clubs now use players of that type – it’s all single or double pivots; the out and out DM is a dying breed.
Looks like Arsene still knows after all. It never is over until it is over.
How mad is it that we’ve all spent the whole summer calling for new DM and CFs, and right now the two players in our team (bar maybe Kos/Mert) who look absolutely undroppable are Giroud and Rambo?
I fcuking love our first team right now. Silks and steel. My favourite Arsenal first XI since the Invincibles.
Interesting stuff re: pivots N7.
SSN desperate to link Ozil to Utd despite no proof! Just his agent wanting to make sure his client gets the fat wages he’s demanding.
Hi ‘holic. Fantastic day at the Grove yesterday. The singing started 15 minutes before the game on the North Bank (practically unheard of these days) and just continued through the whole game. My son, who’s been going with me since 2004, said it was the best atmosphere he’s been in at the Emirates – and we were there for the win over Barcelona. Better than the 5-2s because those games were over half way through the second half. Bloody tense right to the end on Sunday!
The intensity of the team communicated itself to the crowd, or vice versa, or a bit of both. Didn’t hear a peep out of the Spuds supporters all afternoon. So many chants, but i did enjoy “where’s your monkey gone (where’s your monkey gone)?”
Now for a day trying not to believe what we are promised might happen. Arsenal again showed themselves to be a community yesterday. Loved it!
I think Arsene should take a back seat when it gets to sorting Ozil’s wages out.
He may well have a funny turn having to sign all those 000’s on the cheque.
Yesterday was truly fantastic, fabulous atmosphere too.
Below are ‘The Boy Hotspur’s’ player ratings from his autopsy of yesterday’s glorious defeat of the LWCs. Made me feel even more smug than I already am feeling today and proof that there is the odd bit of intelligent life on planet Spud:
“Let’s whistle through the player ratings.
LLORIS 9 was bloody brilliant. He prevented us getting stuffed 4-0 or maybe even 5-0. That’s not up for debate. His best game in the shirt. Corn earned.
BONZO 5 last seen skipping off with a Lion, a Tinman and a young Judy Garland with a small dog under her arm.
DAWSON 6 played the goal onside like it was Amateur Night. Where’s Vlad?
ROSE 6 useful getting the ball up the pitch, but as per Bonzo, not as useful defensively.
JAN 7 was calm and composed but even he got mowed down by the cavalry when he stepped over the halfway line.
TOWNSEND 6 irritating. He was frequently in an advanced position and all we got were QPR style pot shots. He really should have been focused upon finding Soldado. He really should.
PAULINHO, KAPOW!, MOUSSA & CHADLI 6 all pale imitations of themselves. All bustled off the ball by 7 stone weaklings all incapable of threading a forward pass to anyone. Exasperating.
6 SOLDADO did the best with what he had which was meager. In fact if you tripled what he got it was still buttons.”
I was really unimpressed by Soldado.
Kos ate him alive yesterday and nothing the Spuds fired forward seemed to stick.
Compare and contrast with the HFB, who bullied the shit out of their CBs all afternoon. One of these men cost more than double what the other did.

Snir?
BOILK!!
But damn it was worth it.
Back drinky time…
*still basking.
Fine account H. And good shout for the Ems crowd some of whom have deservedly taken stick in the past. Now..
Let’s do some business.
As ever COYRs
And
THMBD
John Cross is saying Ozil done.
Could be wrong, but there you go.
@johncrossmirror: I’m hearing Mesut Ozil is agreed and done to Arsenal as a permanent deal. #afc http://t.co/FdgcrgKU4M
Cross saying medical remains to be taken. Let’s hope Chelsea are looking the other way.
Medical in Germany…
I’d love to believe something that Cross says. His track record isnt too clever tho as he isnt exactly on good terms with the big cheeses at AFC.
Just a note of caution on Cross – his wider statement suggest deal is done with Madrid, but doesn’t specify that terms agreed with player. Depends what he means by “agreed and done”.
Still a ways to go yet.
Ozil would be perfect replacement for my favorite Arsenal player, Rosicky. That however, shouldn’t stop the board to reward Rosicky with a new two year deal. He deserves it.
Speaking of rewards, Sagna, Arsene?
N7 – To be fair, Soldado looked a little bit like Giroud did at the beginning of last season, only not as industrious and a bit more shit. He seems a very one-dimensional player to me but early days to judge him. Let’s hope it’s all downhill for him and them from here.
This fine win, coupled with the comforting knowledge that, actually you know what? our first team is awesome, plus the highly commendable quality of drinks (par for the course), added to the growing confidence that some Good Things will happen today – all of these wonderful elements – have kept me going through a long, sleepless night at the birth unit.
It’s a new day, the sun is shining and this new signing is on the way.
Between Negredo and Soldado, 2 strikers below the ‘super quality’ bracket, I’d say the blue mancs got a far better player. A player WE should’ve gone for, but didnt. We still need a striker, despite Giroud’s excellent form.
More from Cross: “Ozil had been reluctant to come to Arsenal. They’ve persuaded him. It’s all on. Imagine Ozil central, Cazorla left. Wow. #afc”
Standard say he’s having a medical in Germany right now.
TS @ 44
Very true.
But does Soldado have a season to settle? He’s 29 this term, Giroud turned 25 last season.
Nice post Guv.
TS, good stuff @32.
David Hytner: “Ozil. Arsenal. £46m. Get excited.”
Is this actually going to happen?!
Love the fact that the mashed potatoes have spent large and yet couldn’t beat a team who have so far only managed two free signings! Classic.
Ozil deal looking promising, he is an amazing player, would be a huge asset to this team.
Also very much enjoying Ramsey’s performances. Hey he’s Welsh, maybe he’s worth £86 Million.
How the fcuk am I supposed to work with this going on?
Should have taken the day off.
Hearing we’re close to Ba on loan. Great stuff if true.
£2m fee for a one year loan deal.
Will target a superstar striker next summer (if HFB isn’t one himself by then).
Another good point N7.
I suspect that with the “£100 million” tags over all their heads, which will stick like bear poo to bunny fur, there will be huge pressure on all of that lot to perform.
Some might not last the distance if tangible results aren’t delivered this season. I’m thinking Andre Village Idiot first and foremost….
…. although looks like Capoo has already fallen by the wayside for a while (GWS to him).
Cracking post, ‘holic, especially the bit about the crowd.
With very little experience of old Highbury, I have become increasingly exasperated by the highly local minority of tossers whose default position is to boo players who are (largely) doing the best they can, their excuse being expensive season tickets, lack of transfers or whatever else.
As much as some things about the club administration might frustrate us from time to time, then the whistle goes, it is our (the fans) job to create the atmosphere that helps our lads (whoever they are) feel a foot taller, make it bloody hard for the ref to do anything other than blow for us, and make opposing players and fans want to hit the showers / trains. Football is a mental game; is it any co-incidence that the game where our lads showed the most spine for a long time was the game where the crowd was at its best since Queensland Road housed a waste disposal centre.
Making the Grove into a fortress does not require expensive billboards, manufactured signs in the rafters or Elvis songs before kickoff, it just requires each of us to put our administrative differences to one side for 90 minutes. Yesterday was proof that the Grove could be the most atmospheric ground in England, but only if we want it to be.
Patooz, N5
@ TS
Very true re: the price tags. All that spending and media hype…
AVB seemed to be showing the strain yesterday. Got to be more pressure on him this season and he has a lot to do – without Bale Spurs would’ve been a mid table outfit last term.
@bbcsport_david: Arsenal agree €50m deal with Real Madrid for Ozil. Personal terms in place & medical in Ger today but not signed yet #bbcfootball #afc #rmfc
Patooz
Spot. On. Well said, that man. Crowd were ace yesterday – took their lead from the players.
Need to get that relationship of trust going between the squad and the support so that they stick together even when it looks bleak. This isn’t the Arsenal side of 2011 – we can trust this lot to graft for us.
I am officially closing the zen wing of the bar for the summer.
Please congregate on the batshit balcony for champagne and nibbles.
Excellent Patooz.
Unfortunately, nigh on impossible to have that kind of atmos for every home game and that applies to every team in the world (although the German supporters are absolutely amazing).
But your sentiment absolutely spot on, I thought.
Per N7, this team is a real time and deserve our trust. They all graft for the shirt.
Dead right N7 @ 58, it was very noticeable yesterday by the team as a whole but I though Giroud work rate was great, lots of work at the back as well as up front. And a beautifully timed shot to score, he’s gunna be a 15-20 goal scorer this season
The batshit balcony has a staircase leading directly to The Happy Train platform….. allegedly.
All aboard?
I am here for deadline day. Where’s Snir?
I am oooziling with confidence today 😉
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23929339
@JWTelegraph: With Mesut Ozil close to completion, Arsenal are not now pursuing Angel di Maria #afc
@wayneveysey: Mesut Ozil is undergoing an Arsenal medical in Germany right now. Personal terms agreed & deal is now DONE. Updated story to come….
TS @ 62
Your choice of transportation down to the Happy Train: batpole or water slide.
I’m going to predict the following: Viviano, Ozil, Ba and Cabaye.
Works for me.
55; Bang on the money man!
59 N7 Haha! 🙂
N7 @ 67
Ask Feelgood for the right kind of water 😉
Shall we just take the day off and head down to the pub?
The HT is leaving anytime…
Arsenal trying hard for Rooney.
Ba second on list.
N7 @ 68 .. that works for me too. Would like to see Wiggy arriving, but very quiet on that front…
@SkySportsNews: Sky Sources understand that Mesut Ozil is having a medical with Arsenal: #SkyDeadlineDay
The Twitter ITK (best hit ratio of any source this summer) has confirmed: Ozil terms agreed with club and player, having a medical.
Starting to really believe here.
Rooney???? Woah, thats too much for me…. I wonder if Moyes would do that? Be fucking amazing mind…. despite him being a bit of a twat!
Ozil??? Thats so last, erm, minute! We’ve moved on to other shiny new toys now!
Haha! Just reaslied, SSN have got Balague doing what he does anyway; translating the words of the Real madrid prez…
Btw – might as well name him; for anyone who wants to follow the ITK that Lurky and I are always banging on about, @GeoffArsenal is your man.
The guy has called pretty much everything spot on this summer, and ahead of the press. Ins, outs, bids and injuries.
He’s also not, to my knowledge, said anything that proved to be incorrect, and he doesn’t overhype his info.
Worth a follow if you’re on Twitter.
N7, I asked sometime ago, I’m not sure you saw it, what’s your Twitter Handle?
Capital idea Dr.C @ #71
What a difference a day makes…..
24 little hours…..
Shoo be dooby doo ooooh…
Sky Transfer Watch says Ozil to Arsenal is now 1/10 on, with Man U’s chances at 16/1.
cheer up russell, suicide’s always an option for miserbale wankers like you.
Maccabi to be on Pro Evolution 2014.
Can’t this day get any better? 😀
Russell, the more astounding fact is that the nurse let you near a keyboard.
How many swallows does it take to make a summer boy?
*Can
As for Geoffarsenal.
A true ITK. Immaculate sources at the club.
Great write up guv, one of those days you just wish you were there.
The most reliable info on Ozil this morning seems to be from Fjortoft, as confirmed by Honigstein.
What the hell do the Harry Potter books got to do with anything? 😉
@GeoffArsenal: Fee & Terms agreed For Ozil. Medical taking place shortly.
Club still working on others.
KEEP.THE.FAITH
#COYG
All I needed. For me it’s akin to arsenal.com
His sources are that good.
Bullseye!
So, Arsene the keeper’s safe, thats yours, you’ve got the dreamy midfield schemer, now do you want to go for the striker… and maybe a winger…? 🙂
@GeoffArsenal: I think the chase for a top striker in this window may be dead. Targets not available. Still time but may take Demba Ba on loan for now. >
No effin chance of me doing any writing today…. Unless my tutors will be up for a few 1000 word discourse on the possible transfers coming to AFC today!!
Me to Russell, me too.
BAMM
Me too Russell, me too.
Giroudesque H2H!
The great thing about Ba is that we only need to agree personal terms and the loan fee with Chelsea.
A medical will only show up his knee knack.
96 So, did your doggin mates give you that nickname of yours…?
Watched the game yesterday with a spud mate, who was so convinced of 2-4 score line he actually gave his money to the bookie’s, spuds you have feel sorry for them, still believing their own press releases after all these years, loads of fun taking the piss out of him from start to finish, he took it well though 🙂
*runs off to celebrate, but notices that play might get called back, so kicks it the net again, and farts in Lloris’ boat race just to make sure.
Well in H2H.
BBC dude reckons PSG have gazumped us on Ozil.
Anyone worried if we get in too many big time charlies that our fantastic team spirit will be affected?
No
@ Cynic 109
Problem solved 🙁
109; Gary Lineker???
Cent @ 80
Sorry – must have missed that first time.
I don’t actually tweet anything about Arsenal from my account; tend to use it more for other stuff, so not that interesting. It’s @blankwater1978, just in case.
I think Twitter is ace for info gathering (from the right sources), but the football chat on there can be a bit dry – too many bellends. That’s why I come here; much better standard of chat, less trolls and schoolkids.
I’m also trying really, really hard to resist piling in on the doomers, because I’d absolutely love to call them out for their bullsh!t, but that would really mess up my zen.
That said, I see that Tabs has saved me the trouble with Payton – gave him a well-earned shoeing ahead of the NLD. Quite right too – get behind the team.
Meanwhile in the typo of the day competition (I type as one who heavily afflicted), Norris@85 goes into an early lead by describing MNB as “miserbale”. I love it!
COYG
David Ornstein. Probably bollocks but it’s Jim White Day so anything is possible.
Payton is such a deluded attention seeking twat.
Ozil late to German NT cos of an Arsenal medical he was taking part in.
Has to be in Germany today because he’s part of a TV commercial in the stadium.
Bayern and German National Team’s doctor did the medical for us.
116 How dya know it was a typo tho??? Haha! OK, I admit it!! 🙂
Norris @ 118
Amen to that.
He should be ashamed of himself and his behaviour ahead of the NLD.
Norris, everybody who uses Twitter is a DAST, or they wouldn’t have an account.
I love you Cynic.
If we sign Ozil for £45m (second most expensive deal in Premier League history), where does this leave the “Wenger has a pathological hatred of spending money” argument?
Might we all have to accept that he really didn’t have any dough these last 8 years?
And if he really didn’t have any dough these last 8 years, is anyone unhappy with his performance?
55 Patooz N5
Nice.
Still catching up, taking longer then usual because of all the links.
Great write up Holic. Gutted I missed it. Nice to put the spuds in their place. Always worth raising a glass. Glad it was a great atmosphere as well. I have only seen the highlights after a long day on the road but enjoyed the post match comments. Nice to see Arsenal getting praise for zipping the ball around and the spuds being laughed at for quite simply not. Lloris there motm says it all. I am guessing that the beer tasted even sweeter.
Big big day today. Ozil having his Arsenal medical???? Fantastic signing if we can pull it off. I look forward to it along with a few others.
Can you believe that having beaten the spuds and on the verge of record signings that there are still some dullard cunts that still moan??? Some people are really just oxygen thieves. Their shear existence beggars belief.
Cynic – Ornstein didn’t say we got gazumped. Said we agreed.
SSN saying we’re in advanced talks for Di Maria too.
Madrid fans chanting “don’t sell Ozil” at the Bale unveiling.
🙂
Ornstein’s PSG tweet was probably a wind-up (I don’t have an account I just read DASTs feeds)
Ozil let’s just hope the management team don’t fuck this one up?
Great player & convinced his talents are more suited to the prem than the Spanish league…
Bale kissing the badge, confirming he is a huge cunt
Steve @ 125
If you want to see a bunch of people bending over backwards to avoid admitting they got it wrong, drop in on Le Grove today. Mass psychosis going on over there.
Pretty fcuked up when you can’t even really be happy that your club has just made a world class signing at three times their previous transfer record.
As has long been said: some people would now rather Arsene proved them right than proved them wrong. Can’t understand it.
122 Tue dat! I was on it big style last summer, became interchums with David O’Leary too, until it got me down trawling thru so much inane bull shit.
N7; Altho I have mentioned a fair few times my concerns over this summer. I fully contend and agree that we have been skint (relatively) for the last few years, as one would expect given the expenditure and lack of a sugar daddy.
Wenger, despite my wrath this summer, has done an amazing job and IF we get Ozil and a couple of others, then there’s no reason why we cannot have a blinding season. I just wish it could’ve been done a tad earlier, for the sake of my sanity, blood pressure and Uni work! 🙂
PSG rumour came from Tancredi the bullshit artist.
He’s just tweeted that Madrid rejected his imaginary bid. Convenient.
Whoa N7 really? Ancellotti really doesn’t know what he is doing I think
For me, Ozil >> Bale
Nice one Norris.
I think it’s time for all of us to get right behind the manager and the players.
Enough division – club appears to be moving in the right direction, even if they’ve scared the sh!t out of us all this summer.
One Arsene Wenger.
Harsha @ 129
I agree. Said a week ago I’d take Mata or Ozil over Bale any day of the week.
Footballers over athletes.
Sensational write up, Holic. Only saw the highlights but Arsenal looked superb despite starting without six first picks because of injury. Bottenham 100 million. Arsenal 0 Million.
Three quality players in before the windae slams doon tonight. It has been the plan throughout the summer. We have the best poker player in the business (and the highest proportion of naysayers on the planet).
Oh, arent we in for Mata then? Fucking useless frenc…. 🙂
Lovely stuff Holic,
Hit the nail briefly but squarely on the head.
£109,000,000 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. 😆
Still laughing.
71 Dr C.
I just can’t take the day off………………
But I am in the pub, BRILIANT. 😎
Welcome back mate.
@Arsenal_Supremo: Sky Deutschland explains to SSN the Ozil deal from Real Madrid to Arsenal and why he didn’t turn up to training.
http://t.co/WaF8G7pSYc
So, do we think that with Flamini and Arteta, we have the more defensive minded ‘pivote’ sorted, or are we still gonna hail a Cab from newcastle?
N7, 115, fair enough, but I’d like to add that the quality of your twitter chats is directly proportional to the quality of the people YOU choose to follow.
Yes but he said he was no good at poker …… Oh, I see. 😉
Holic-you are far from an amateur scribe it was a charming and personal account of events.Great stuuf as ever.
I took a lady whose only experience of the NLD was the first 5-2 victory two years ago. She described it as the most incredibly exciting event she had experienced. Its ages since a woman said that to me! It was visceral, tense and ultimately joyous but the bloke behind me still left as he always does with seven minutes to go-how on earth could he do that?
I’m writing an account of today for the next Gooner and rather expected a more downbeat day. Following on from yesterday if we confirm Ozil and Ba I will be delighted. Ben Fairthorne says we are working on 4 deals and the fourth is Rooney! We couldn’t could we…?
Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Heady times! I said last week I was starting to loathe Wenger which was an immature overreaction . He can be the most obstinate son of a gun in the world but the dream he has is to produce a team so good in attack we don’t need a defence! And we have the Flamster back!
@Zorany69: Al-Jazeera sports confirm that Demba Ba is set to join Arsenal for a season loan. They’re were the first to confirm Özil, Very reliable
@SkySportsNews: Abel Hernandez has told Palermo he wants to leave before the window shuts. He’s been linked with Arsenal & Sunderland: #SkyDeadlineDay
Ben Fairthorne sounds like a 19th Century hero in a romantic novel 😀
So, not only did we beat the spuds after them spending over £100m on new 2nd tier signings, they’ve lost their best player and best chance of challenging for the top 4, their best signing (Capoue) has broken his leg (bad for him, sorry hope you make a full recovery and do take your time with said rehab fella) and now we are on the verge of making a fucking sensational signing (or 3) !!!
If you are a Gooner and you aint happy about any, or all of that, then you seriously need to reconsider your hobby options, because you are wasting your life.
Should I keep going or are y’all already on SSN and twitter?
Keep going, Snir.
Snir
Please, do keep going man….
Ttg, Ben FairBOLLOCKS is the most un-reliable ITK ever.
@Germangunners: Poldi just came out of doc Wolfarth office. Welcomed özil
Snir go on please, at work and you pouring info here in to drinks is a brilliant thing.
It’s either Snir or Jim White.. no contest.
@Germangunners: Poldi tweet confirmed by NDE radio correspondent who’s waiting in front if Wolfarth office. Poldi said: “Would be great if he joined:-)”
Alright, sure thing.
And to think that I intended to catch up on some homework today.
I did miss the bar haha.
Cent @ 138
That’s very true!
To be honest, part of it is that I don’t really trust myself. I’m a person who tries to keep his cool but I can get quite heated over the footie – it brings out the worst in me sometimes.
I also have a lot of mates who aren’t interested in the game and fcuking loathe it when I start flooding their timelines with Arsenal stuff, so I try to get it all out my system on here instead.
I did treat myself to a quick retweet of this cheeky little snap last night though:
http://t.co/4MRQX4py8b
Anyone seen that fillum called Idiocracy with Luke Wilson (I think)? Its set in the future about the USA being full of dense couch potatoes… There’s this bit with some dude sat in front of a huge TV screen with rolling ads and info scrolling on it, sat on a really big armchair thats also doubles as a toilet so he doesnt have to move away from the screen….
Well, thats me today that is…
Al jazeera confirming Ba to Arsenal.
They were first with Ozil.
Have Arsenal signed Feldman yet?
Oop – Snir beat me to the Ba news.
Demba Ba is a joke signing
He’s the super quality signing Wenger Out.
So finally caught up. *wipes brow.
So it’s TTD, eh?
Sounds a bit nasty, especialy since we played the swamp dwerllers yesterday, I really hope none of you were exposed, wouldn’t want you to have caught a Tottenham Transferable Disease, yuck..
What? O that’s not it, ok what is it then? Tiny Totts Defeated? Yes? No? Oh but they were you know and that makes it a good day.
Oh hang on, now I realise what it is, it’s the Tedious Trolly Dash thingymijig, the most overhyped crapfest of the year I swear to god I can’t stand it, I don’t want to know anything about it, I just don’t c………..
Oh look, rumours about shiney new players….
Ah, who am I kidding???
Come on Snir, hit us with the 411. 🙂
Nice dance Tristan Shout.
Holic, Our fans were the 12th player, yesterday. The positive buzz surrounding our club right now, is a long time coming. A couple of years ago, many of us remarked (here), that there was something really special about our lads. Getting a bit teary eyed, just so very proud of them. Mr Wenger, well played, Sir.
N7 @153, all fair enough. That Smile is the best ever, second only to that of my mum.
As long as Ba is only a loan signing I’m not too worried, we still need numbers & he’s better than what we have @ the moment as back-up, never know we may just get Benzema too if Liverpool sell to RM….
Strongly recommend.
@GeoffArsenal: Transfer update with @timpayton recorded, it will be up in 15 mins at
http://t.co/Vf71YaGVjy
#Ozil #DiMaria #Rooney #Suarez #Ba
@gunnerblog: Arsenal telling agents they no are no longer in the market for an attacking midfield player. Edging closer.
I would listen to it but it has @GeoffArsenaland @timpayton on it.
#fussy
@samuelj29060: SSN: Zenit have offered Hulk to Spurs on season-long loan, but for a fee of £10m. #THFC
Snir, great to have you back. Do you follow @TancrediPalmeri . As for Ozil, our lad has grown up, plays a full ninety minutes 😉
Okay, okay as I understand it We have managed to agree a deal with Madrid to sign Ozil. As we have reached an agreement with the club ad oppose to the player, things seem to have started off on the right foot.
However, a correct me if i am wrong, the player along with Karim Benzema and Di Maria, all protested the suggestion that their sales would fund the purchase of Bale. In other words they knew nothing about their pending transfers. Sounds a little bit harsh, especially when out of the 3 (Ozil), is a highly regarded player, obviously not at his own club.
So as it stands, Ozil now has to get his ass on a plane, agree terms and have a medical with the bidding club, pretty much since after our game. This shit sounds dodgy to me, but the main thing is that Madrid have accepted the money. It now just means that Mesut has to also co-operate.
If I’m being honest, and based on yesterday’s performance, Arsenal are the right team for the German to join. We are club who are going places.
So as the media fumble over themselves to deliver breaking transfer news, as well as getting details of this deal correct, as it stands, everything is now down to Ozil. The only consistent story is that Madrid have accepted our cash. To me, this indicates that the player himself, may be also interested in wearing the red and White.
‘holic, don’t sell yourself short by stating you’re an “amateur scribe”. Hardly, given your always professional reports.
As for “Andre Village Idiot”, maybe a suggestion to fit in precisely with his given initials — Andre Village Buffoon?
And once this transfer window closes, could we see AW get on with the next important signing — extending the Bac-man…
gunnertown;
The medical’s done n dusted. happened in Germany. Everythings agreed man.
We’re on to the next trolley dash, erm I mean signing now!
GT – he’s already had his medical in Munich.
ABB – Tancredi is a twat. All he knows how to write are the words Sky Italia:
SSN saying they have upcoming breaking news regarding another Arsenal transfer story….
Gunnertown.
If Ozil has indeed been forced out due to Bale’s arrival, then that should give him a healthy distain towards the Tiny Totts…
Sounds like a gooner to me.
Norris@174. I wonder why they decided to say that, rather than saying their news?
Oh its Ba….
Ha Ha Snir! But he can say it in Italian, Spanish, French and English 😉
Is this the most wounding 24 hour period for the LWCs in living memory?
They honestly believed they’d finally caught us, and now we’re disappearing back over the horizon…
For dramatic effect?
Got to be a high risk of riots tonight up at the wrong end of the Seven Sisters…

Treat it as you see fit.
I thought SSN stood for Snir Sports News, not Sky Sports News.
N7, spot on.
Would love Ozil. Still think we have other key areas we need to strengthen.
Bring it on.
A centreback and a striker wouldn’t go amiss, Steve
And just to prove the fact he is as thick as your average british hack Guillem balague was on SSN saying how Wenger has been critical of clubs spending big money, yet has just done the same by signing Ozil.
Nope, AW’s never said anything about clubs spending WHAT THEY EARN, just the financially doped clubs like the one who pull Balague’s puppet strings.
TS; Apparantly we dont need a CB, altho I’d beg to differ on that one.
Ootzul iz bollucks. U shud be in for Suarez. He is top, top quality. Trus meh, ah av won things an ah noe.
Wanga has fooled you all…
If you don’t believe meh, jus look at my record.
@ Norris
Jesus wept. How can people STILL not get this?
Ace comment from Le Grove: most important thing about today is the club have moved the goal posts and means Wenger will be under the same pressure as the other managers of big teams.
That’s the spirit lads – never lose track of the REAL objective here, which is getting the manager sacked. Best thing about the club’s most exciting ever signing? One step closer to sacking the manager. Spot fcuking on.
Re: centre backs – presumably anyone we signed would have to be happy to be 4th choice? I’m not really sure who would fit that bill.
Would we want to spend £10m on Williams as 4th choice, even if he were willing to come?
I think the rationale is that Flamini can fill in at right back, which means Sagna is available to double up as 4th choice CB.
Personally, I’m fine with that. He’s probably as good a 4th choice CB as you’ll find in this division, and it gets Jenks more game time (he was great yesterday).
N7 I made a quick visit after you posted earlier…. After a 30 minute boiling hot shower and brillo pad n domestos scrub I feel clean enough to carry on with my day!
Beggars belief dont it.
@PadraigAFC: Demba Ba looks likely. [GeoffArsenal on the http://t.co/FJyA62d4ra podcast]
SSN saying that our interest in Di Maria is cooling.
N7; Yeah Sagna is more than capable to fill in, I just feel it was a possibility for us to get a new CB. Or a player who can operate in a few positions.
Norris @ 195
I think it would have been useful to have one – still a little surprised we didn’t pick up Capoue, as he might have been handy in that regard.
I reckon we’ll be OK with what we have though. Vermaelen not that far off now.
Re: Di Maria, I just can’t see it happening. Where would he even fit in the side? How would Santi get his minutes?
@ The real ‘arry.
I’m calling you awt, er out.
The real ‘arry, would never try to convince us to getv Sewerrat.
Nah, if it was Becks though…….
Still, HEH. 🙂
@PadraigAFC: Arsenal may be interested in signing a fullback today. [GeoffArsenal on the http://t.co/FJyA62d4ra podcast]
Snir @ 198 – now THAT’s interesting. Right back, I’d presume.
Bang
I wouldn’t worry about Santi if Di-Maria comes, I’d worry about Theo.
Ozilesque……,,,,
Tristan noes. He and the fine publishers at Le Grove only want the best.
Lissen to meh. Ah noe.
Well in Steve T.
Ozil with the assist.
Though what will be the magic number once the troll’s gone?
Ba would be a decent addition to the squad. Has scored goals in the prem on a regular basis. Ideal to come off the bench.
Well in, Steve!
Agree with Steve re: Ba.
Smart signing – just what we need. And gives us a year to target the big name striker we clearly want to add.
Just to check, is there anyone on here who’d have preferred Higuain or Suarez to Ozil?
@N7
The death rattle of any doomed regime is its inability to see beyond their own warped paradigm when all around them is changing.
Great to be at the Grove (not to be confused with Le Grove) yesterday. Eclipsed even the Barca game for pure passion both on and off the pitch.
Di Maria and Ba and we are done. (Suarez looks like he is not moving so no Benzema and United not looking as if they are going to get a creative player means no move for Rooney (although his MOTM performance v Chelsea dis have the look of one last great performance).
Ahhhhh. Forgot about the oxygen thief….
Bugger.
Sorry guys,
Been stuck in da offiss!
Done in Munich huh? Well well Cesc back home next season, another top draw striker and the title is ours ( next season)
Also, wouldn’t mind one of those shiney back up keepers being mooted, as well as Ba on loan, this season. That will be a top Four finish and a cup minimum.
Why on earth do Utd just not let Kagawa play a bit?
It should be unlawful to buy players like him and Mata and then bench them so that the likes of Jones and Ramires can rumble around the place.
Spot on, Mr. Hollway. Beckums did look the part yesterday. Wat you need is a solid British core, see?
Forget the foreigners. Ah want Arsenal to succeed. You noe it waz me boyhood club. But ah wan me old Arsenal back. No more frogs or krauts or Spanish.
Tristan and Le Grove for meh. That is full gospel.
Trus meh. Ah’v won things and ah noe.
Big question for the LWCs now is whether they can finish above Liverpool.
N7. In fairness they are different types of players. I would happily have had Ozil and Higuain though. What a great pairing. I still think we missed out there.
True dat Steve, true dat.
Suspect we’ll end up with a better striker next summer. My fear is that it’ll be Benteke for twice what he’d have cost this month.
Spot on N7, I remember Klopp saying that one of the saddest things he experienced in last two or three years was to sell Kagawa to Utd and then see him playing wide or benched…
N7 @209, not me!
I remember watching Ozil rip England a new one at the U21 world cup a few years back, then seeing him repeat the trick for the senior squad the following summer.
What a player. Going to be a pleasure seeing him in red and white.
Whoever we’re getting in up front, they’re going to have some fairly insane service coming their way.
A fullback??? Really? Seems a bit weird to me. As much as I think ba is a good idea. He is a good idea with 12 hours of the window to go. A better idea would and should have been a top class striker, but that didnt happen for whatever reason. maybe we felt it would appear too common to buy all our big name signings from the one shop?
Re: Kagawa – it made me wonder why Utd kept going for Cesc, unless they intended on playing him behind Rooney in a deeper midfield role, which would have been such a waste.
Utd are obviously a formidable team, always, but I don’t think that technical football has ever been their trade mark. They a little more direct than us, a little less preoccupied with possession and a little more focused on quick, pacey wingers.
I don’t think Kagawa fits their system, and I don’t think Cesc would have either. No idea why they bought one and tried for the other. My guess would be that they bought Kagawa during a funny moment where Fergie still thought he could catch Barca if he started to play the game their way.
What? Where’d hegoe?
Now ah’d expect that sort of thing from Abrahamovich (what wif Putin and all), but that’s the last sort of action ah’d expect from this watering hole.
Fact that us. Underlined.
Still, he noes. U can trus meh. Ah’v won things and ah noe.
Hehe so lets consider Ozil deal is done …how is our attack going to be shaped with him?
So many options O.o, currently – Jack-Aaron-Ozil with Feo and Santi on the wings..leaves no place for TR7 for example, even more packed when Arteta, Poldi and Ox are back to their fitness.
Sky now reporting Bendtner to Palace.
Regardless of who comes in, well done to the club for the big fcuking broom they sent through the place this summer.
Much needed and has to have helped team spirit.
Eandy @ 224
Jesus – the options are scary, aren’t they? Nice problem to have.
Cazorla and Ozil in the same team…. this could end up even prettier than 2007.
Rumours that Arsenal will announce Ozil at 4pm….
Cazorla and Ozil??? Awesome. Would still like a Vieira type sitting in just behind them. Or am I just being greedy???
A striker and a centre back. If Viviano and Ozil are truly sorted, what is the single most important position to cover?
Greetings
What a great week, two very entertaining encounters at the Ems with my small band of King’s Lynn Gooners, even though First Capital Connect did their best to wreck our transport arrangements. Claims for compensation already in.
As for yesterday, what a great atmosphere at the Ems, as good as anything I’ve felt since we moved home. We couldn’t have asked for more from the team, they well and truly put that lot and AVB in their place. Our pressing, our speed on the counter and our solidness at the back was first class and although I was a nervous wreck by the final whistle, I didn’t even complain when we were shunted on to a bus at Cambridge late in the evening.
Giroud and the CBs were my joint MOTM, a pity Loris was in such fine form. I’ve been telling you that signings ,of merit, would be made and the final chapter of the “transfer thriller” will indeed have a happy and surprising ending. Everything comes to those who wait!
Pity about the interlull, can’t wait to see our new, expensive purchases!
Perhaps AW does know best?
As always COYRs
If we are going to start to spend big and compete, then wasn’t yesterday just the most fcuking fantastic swansong for Arsene’s era of parsimony?
Beating the neighbours in a packed Emirates, when they’ve spent all that dough and we’d spent jack, but about to splurge.
What a great full stop to the skint years.
Like getting halfway through a swordfight and then revealing you’ve been using your weaker hand the whole time.
N7 – you beat me to that.
That’s actually what Al Jazeera wrote last night – to expect an announcement at 4 pm.
They’re right on the money more often than not.
Given our injury history, I dont think having a few options is such a bad thing!
One defenive signing and a striker to add to the (assumed) additions and we look set.
Steve T – just a tad!
Steve @ 228
You can buy one, but he’ll have to fight past Ramsey for a place in the first team…
N7 209.
I don’t think I could of stated my case any clearer regaurding the obtaining of Suarez, it makes me feel dirty that we even made a bid. Higuan, however, was a different story, but he decided to go elsewhere and we are were we are today, last minute trolly dashing, due to that fact.
No matter who we sign today, and it does look like we’re finally, to quote the maestro- getting our finger out, I’l still think of this as a bumbled summer.
229; Ha! You beat me to it… I’d say a striker was the priority.
Viviano being confirmed. £1m loan fee – option to buy.
It really seems that the signing of Ozil is a massive statement of intent. I don’t expect Arsene to go anywhere near that kind of figure ever again to get a player of whatever quality. Having said that, it really makes a nice sort of change to the normal fare.
@FabRomano21: Mesut Ozil-Arsenal: Wenger is finalizing deal. He is now finding definitive agreement with Real Madrid, then it will be official #AFC
Wow, what a day. Still pinching myself that I have not been dreaming the last 24 hours.
Now sitting in the N5 sunshine, watching the AFC executive offices from my back terrace….awaiting white smoke….hoping that today truly marks the end of the interregnum….
H2H @ 236
It’s a tough one.
If you’d told me in May that we were going to buy Flamini, Ozil, maybe Ba, a keeper we’ve never heard of and a striker we’d never heard of, with maybe some interest in Cabaye going into the final hours – I’d have been fcuking delighted.
That said, I do feel that some things might have been better handled (the striker pursuit) and I hope they’ll learn and improve next summer. They clearly took a couple of risks, and one of them has paid off big time, the other less so.
For me, the main thing was to bring in a world class player this summer and show that we weren’t afraid to spend big – announce ourselves to the market and confirm to the nay-sayers that our manager isn’t some sort of loon who refuses to spend money, even on quality.
That box is about to be well and truly ticked, so I’m calling it a success in my book.
Hopefully we’ll carry on the good work next summer.
Sky sources are telling me we rely on a load of dodgy 2nd hand car salesmen and twitter ITKs…
Basically, the support have been promised that being skint would end about now. We needed them to demonstrate that wasn’t a lie.
We’ve waited 8 years for this, some more patiently than others, but fcuk me we deserve this moment and well done to the club for providing it to us.
WTF??!
Arsenal are looking to trigger FC Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala’s release clause (£38m) to help improve defensive qualities [BBC Sport]
That Mangala thing has to be bollocks.
@gunnerblog: Bendtner is on £55k @Arsenal. Palace willing to pay up to £25k. Arsenal paying rest of Bendtner’s contract as pay-off. Huge sum.
Steve, we already have our ‘sitting’ midfielder in Arteta(will prolong his career as he will have to do less running) and Flamini, there was a moment in the game yesterday when Flamini won the ball on the half-way line and just passed it on to Aaron and retreated to sit deep in midfield again, also I’ve watched an interview where Cesc said Flamini is perfect at doing the simple things, he just wins the ball, passes it on to the more attack minded players then waits for them to lose it so he can win back for them again, he clearly enjoys the role.
245 Crackers!
Jan Aage Fjortoft @JanAageFjortoft 50s
Great news for Arsenal-fans. I understand that there is verbal agreement between Arsenal and Özil. My source: Just signature missing!
242,
Well said. The actions of this window may have looked untidy to many, but it seems there was a method to the madness after all. Arsene would be making a big point while maintaining his philosophy.
Not the dreaded verbal agreement!
N7 – I gotta go.
I’m giving you exclusive ownership of the bar transfer keys 🙂
Rotting at work. We signed anyone yet?
Ha! @ Snir
I will try to do you justice, though not sure I can reach that mark.
Lurky – nope. Rumours of Ozil at 4pm, and Viviano is apparently all but done.
SG @ 229: gotta be a striker. With sagna filling in ably at cb, jenks in fine fettle, and flamini able to fill in at RB, we definitely need a striker more. Giroud is in fine form, but it’d be unrealistic to expect him to keep up his current pace all year. Even with the service he’ll be getting from Ozil.
Which fits with the Ba rumors.
Not that a CB wouldn’t be welcome. But let’s not forget that this defense had the second best defensive record in the league last year, behInd Mancs. And that was with Santos!
Suspect the Ba thing will run until 11pm – sounds like there are a few clubs interested and, as we know, his agents (all 15 of them) are sharks.
@QueenofSuburbia: Ashley allegedly had Cabaye listen a call between AFC and NUFC where Law suggested 25m was too expensive ‘for a reserve’.
Snir in the hizzy!
Thanks to you I can unglue my eyes from NewsNow and just relax in here, reading all of the transfer events in the buff while eating popcorn…
#GetStuckInMate
Can’t keep up with all these drinks but dipping in is fun.
Well played Snir –
good to see you back, even if it is only as a relay hack for Twitter ITKs !!
Just kidding ! Keep it up, mate ! 😉
@259,
Well Joe should give Ashley a flea in his FecKin’ear. 😉
Thanks N7, Ozil not done yet I see. Dying to see that one on .com.
As for Cabaye, NC player I would like to see in red and white is Ben Arfa. Cabaye is decent player, but I’m not sure we need someone of his stature at the moment.
Stupid thing by Law, to say this sort of things by phone, but he might have a point there.
Dum-dum-dum-dum
*clonk*
*BANG*
What the hell was that? Oh, hang on – it was just the wheels coming off the Totnum bandwaggon, nothing out of the ordinary then!
—-
Hello all from the Cretan seaside! It turns out the hotel now offers wi-fi so tonight I will be sat in front of the trusted iPad following the last few hours of transfer frenzy. I have yet to update myself on what is going on but I have heard about the Özil rumours and pleeeeeeease let that deal be done!!!
Watched the game down a sportsbar and scared the bejeezus out of the staff when I screamed “YEEEEEEEEEEES!” at the top of my voice at the final whistle. Have to say we were well worth the points, and really should have scored one or two more but Lloris played a blinder.
Anyway, now for a shower (just got back from the beach) and then an attempt to backdrink a bit!
Can’t quite understand the Cabaye thing. I mean he’s an excellent player, but with Ozil in where does he fit? I always though he was a creative, attacking midfielder… Sure a midfield of
Arteta, Flamini, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Cazorla, and Ozil
is sufficient? Surely we need a striker or winger more?
Can someone help me understand the thinking here? Or is it all hearsay and our midfield is set?
@263 – it’s not a stupid thing to say if it saves us signing a player we don’t need 😉
I can´t keep up.
Which station are we at? Ba … in the abscence of any world class striker coming, I´d take him as cover for HFB. Would love us to nab Benteke, guess that won´t happen.
Would be nice to get Di Maria too, but doubt it – would be on the bench!
For anyone who wants to take a few minutes out of the nauseating money-based, badge-kissing wankfest that is TDD, this is for you:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXynrsrTKbI
It’s easy to put a price on things, more difficult to determine value. Whoever we bring in today (and I still hope we will be bringing in some jaw-droppingly exciting players), you can’t put a price on teamwork, and that is the most valuable thing of all.
Nice one H!
Have now decided to take the rest of the afternoon off and go and occupy the chaise-longue to revel in the glory of our DD dealings! “Sweet as a feckin’ nut!” COYBG!
G’ Lincoln.
I think the Cabaye deal went down the tubes the minute we re-signed Flamini.
Are there any strikers that would give OG a run for his money available right now? What I’d give to know how Wengers mind is working.
Nice vid Snowy.
Tottenham High St has hardly changed a bit. 😉
The Spuds made a late Ozil bid. Come oooonn…. you can’t be serious.
http://images.dailystar-uk.co.uk/dynamic/58/photos/542000/620x/22542.jpg
H2H – Heh! 😉
H2H
As it should have, to my mind. Midfield looks good and set. If we’d only added Higuain when we had the chance… Ba would be ok if we can pull it off, but he’s not quite Higuain…besides, something there is that doesn’t love a loan… The way it’s shaping up that looks to be the sin of omission of this summer.
To the old Jose – Antonio tune –
“Cost 40 millions,
He’s worth O-zilions”
😉
Delia and Snowy, A touch of class. Raises glass.
http://www.whatbaleearns.co.uk/
This Bale-deal seems to work out quite well for us. I’ll just love having our own Welshman playing with Özil.
If it is to be Ba, then so be it, decent enough back up, a proven PL scorer and would allow the HFB to continue his development.
Bild say Ozil to be confirmed in next hour.
that is a batshit crazy backdrink. n7 and snir with the know, and excitement bild-ing to a major signing…and still come out the trolls.
me? just woken up to go to friends’ for late breakfast, still basking in the 1-0 glow. add some signings and my labor day will just get better.
H2H, Ba would be great, absolutely. But it’s still far from done, and only a loan at that. Higuain would have been better on all counts.
But Ozil covers a multiude of wrongs. I am absolutely buzzing.
oh, and holic, beautifully put above. clearly there must be a town in Portugal that is missing its idiot!
Ornstein BBC – Arsenal close to completing Ozil signing, announcement due in coming hours. Documentation being signed as we speak
Are we OK to get excited yet?!?
8 freaking years.
Next on the agenda: some silverware.
Mata to PSG? Huh, that could be interesting…
FFS! Hasn’t Ozil signed yet. So worried someone will come rushing waving a fat wallet in his agent’s face.
Wonder what dirty ol’ RvP is thinking today, with Mansher United looking quite crestfallen in the market… “Huh. Maybe if I’d stuck around?”
Poor robin. He just wasn’t classy enough.
So if we’re counting at home the financial prudence of the last several years leading up to this summer has led to Arsenal destroying their transfer record for world class player, the proceeds of which have been used to purchase the Spuds best player out from under their noses.
I was just thinking about that G Linc’.
Love it how the manure plastics are blubbing about how their club is being mismanaged.
Crying about how they didn’t even inquire about Ozil, when they so desperatly need someone creative in MF, forgeting that they’ve got Shinji Kagawa rotting on the bench.
Man U haven’t had a great team in ages, they had a great manager (yeah he was a cunt, but he knew what he was doing) who always seemed to get more out of a group then the sum of it’s parts.
Rooney is now (alledgedly) unhappy, take out RvP and who have you got left? Most of them were absolute pants against L’poo, Fergie would have never let them play that badly, Moyes just can’t cut it.
I’m beginning to get a little nervous that I haven’t seen a press conference announced on the .con or the beeb.
Relax.
Relax.
RELAX.
oummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
oummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
oummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Blimey, I have hardly done any work, what I have managed has been utter shite that will need doing again tomorrow…. But fuck it!
Come on Arsenal!
As someone said earlier:
[ syll. me-sut, mes-ut ] The baby boy name Mesut is pronounced as mehsaht †. Mesut’s origin is Turkish. The meaning of the name is HAPPY.
Also, this was a tad funny:
BBC Sport’s Saj Chowdhury: “I just bumped into former Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves in Manchester. I asked him whether he had been following the latest developments on transfer deadline day, to which he responded, “not a chance”.
“I then informed the former Bayern Munich player that Arsenal had agreed a £42.4m deal with Real Madrid for Germany midfielder Mesut Ozil. His response to that? “Really? They don’t even need him.”
Still need that striker…. Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Whispers now of Man U lining up a Cabaye bid. Heh. Sloppy seconds 🙂
And maybe a winger… Ommmmmmmm
Assuming the keeper’s in the bag…. Ommmmmmm
Toby.
You forgot to add the headline, which was;
REMEMBER OWEN HARGREAVES?
Is there really any need to? 😉
Not forgeting the centre back….. Ommmmm
Lurking…
Seaking of Keepers, WBA have brought in some Camp guy….
Unlucky Wolfie.
Goal
Jamie Redknapp saying Liverpool and spuds look strong…. Could he be any more pre-dick-table…?
Well in Cent.
He’s literally a twat.
Jamie Redknapp that is…
H2H, in too good a mood to help such a grand old institution to kick the poor thing. Which isn’t to say I’m not glad that you did 😉
The chavs wouldnt seriously sell Mata would they???
Norris.
The cunting apple didn’t fall far from the bastard tree on that one.
Nicely taken, Cent
Don’t know how reliable but, Pastore on loan is an option. If PSG get Mata, he may be available….
Selling Mata is as stupid as selling Özil. One of the team’s best players and all all because of change for changes sake.
Spelling and phone…
It looks like they’re going to (sell Mata), Norris.
He’s in talks with QSG, unbelievable, but, on reflection, not unlike the Ozil situation.
Two great players who have just had great seasons, are fan favourites but are being forced out their respective clubs.
It’s a funny ol’ game.
H2H, seems as though we agree again.
And well in Cent, you are clearly our best striker this days. I may need to practice a little… will invite Theo to join me as well.
Indeed Toby, indeed.
Sky Sources: Arsenal & Real Madrid could confirm Ozil deal at 6pm UK time.
That is 7pm my time, ffs. Waited three months, I can do for one more hour, but it will the hardest one.
Yeah, cant believe they’d even consider selling their best player. Dont spose its too much to expect Arsenal to put in a bid?
I cannot wait to hear their wise words:
“The show will run on the BBC Sport website and Red Button throughout the day. Tune in now to see Dan Walker joined by an expert panel, including former Wales international Robbie Savage and ex-Stoke manager Tony Pulis. You can even see us drinking tea and eating biscuits in our office.”
Nice early piece of last day business. Now time for a couple more.
Cheers Fellas, it’s quite easy to score when you have a play-maker like HOzil behind you feeding you passes.
🙂
318; I sense some seriously powerful and intelligent footballing insight on offer there…. Well, thats if they decide to let Doris the tea lady do all the talking while Lily and Pubis stuff hobnobs into their fat headed faces.
Interesting to notice how many twitter followers had changed their photos this last two days, to portrait variations of Arsene.
I’m just happy I don’t have a red button.
Lily and Pubis in the same frame?
There are not enough buckets in the world to catch the vommit that those two would induce.
German football writer Mark Lovell: “Mesut Ozil is a luxury signing. Alas trophy winners are built on sound defence and goalkeeper and Arsene Wenger has neglected these key areas
2 nd best defence in PL last season , GK viviano signing and flamini adding “grit ” to our excellent midfield . we could sign Messi and still the hack would still get upset we havent sign 10 foot monster destroyer
325; He’s probably a bitter upset kartoffel…
Still looking for that striker….. Ommmmmmmmmmm
From BBC; We’ve been tracking on Twitter which players have been mentioned most on deadline day. Mesut Ozil has captured the imagination of Arsenal’s fans today, with over one million mentions, and has managed to attract over three times the attention that Gareth Bale has today, despite the new Real Madrid signing being unveiled in Spain.
————————–
Oi Flori Perez! You still confident of selling enough football shirts to cover for that outlay???
Is that proof that Arsenal are bigger than Real madrid then?
I saw that Lord and thought he obviously didn’t watch our last seasons run in nor the NLD nor our CL qualifiers.
He should stick to writing about German teams because he obviously knows fuck all about one from London.
Norris, no sign of a striker yet. I am sure something will emerge, though. It would be suicide not to sign one. Doesn’t have to be a luxury one, just a decent backup.
N7
In agreement, if these deadline signings cross the line.
Another point which may be overlooked and why supporters are happy, at this point, is also because nobody decent left this us this year and the talent we do have had a successful pre-season together. As yesterday’s slapping confirmed, you cannot buy an experienced squad, no matter how many chimps you sell.
Not to mention all of the other added bonuses, Inc: those yet to come. 😉
Right on me way ome to bask in the rest of the TDD frenzy! 🙂
Apparently we were given first notification on the Ozil situation by Madrid, who were aware that they messed us about over Higuain.
Not sure if that’s true, but if it is it confirms that the collapse of that deal was more down to Madrid’s behaviour than our own.
Still doesn’t excuse the Suarez clusterfcuk, but there you go.
15 mins and counting…
Lord; Yeah I saw that and even contemplated texting them to say exactly what you did there! Bloody hell, its not like we should expect football writers, who get PAID to pontificate about football to actually have the first idea about the subject and not just trot out hackneyed, one eyed cliched bollocks.
Then again, someone like Tony Adams does precisely that and he is supposedly an Arsenal man, albeit a slightly deranged one.
Lurky; Yep, a decent striker is all we are asking here…. That Yilmaz from Turkeys available?
@ Norris
Yilmaz is a great suggestion. £15m is the price, I believe.
Also heard a rumour earlier that El Sharaawy is in play. Would be a bit steeper, but I’m sure we’d take a look.
Not to cut the man any slack, but I mean, half of the time we don’t even know our own players well enough (Rambo-haters out there), must be hell to be a football journo. It’s always like that, we spend all day scrutinising our squad and still they surprise us.
Anyways, we now have a midfield of Ramsey, Wilshere, Oxlade, Cazorla, Arteta, Rosicky, Flamini, and bleedin ÖZIL. Have we ever had such a strong midfield? I mean, sure, we’ve had world class players before, and often several at the same time, but there are few of those I wouldn’t dare putting out against the best opposition. They are good at different things, and they aren’t in the same place in their careers, but what a group. And all of them hard working.
N7 I always felt the Higuain deal wasnt all our doing, going by what the players people said at the time. Napoli obviously were prepared to pay way over the odds while we werent.
But what about Yann M’Villa???
Ahh shit, thats reminded me…. We could’ve signed David Villa for peanuts! Pffft!
Toby @ 336
Great shout. What a group that is in midfield. Lots of young players too.
I also believe we have the best CB pairing since the Invincibles.
A world class striker next summer (love the HFB, but he’s not quite that level) and we will really go some.
Speaking of Giroud, just imagine how he’s feeling tonight. Place under threat all summer, and look how it’s working out…
First choice up top, players being looked at to deputy him, just scored the winner in the NLD, fan favourite, is the most handsome man in London (with probably a wife to match – I’ve not checked, but you can assume these things) and he’s about to have assists laid on for him by Mesut Ozil.
It’s fair to say he’s living the life.
Alright, it’s 6 o clock GMT.
SHOW ME THE
MONEYSISNINGAre the media going to start coating Moyes now?
Has tried for 5 or 6 midfielders this summer and got none of them. Got the runaround off Fabregas. Hasn’t been able to seal the deal for two players he knows inside out and is about to reportedly pay over £25m for Fellaini, whose £23m release clause expired three weeks back.
If Wenger had done the above he’d be getting pelters right now.
Isn’t Yilmaz Lazio player?
*SIGNING.
Damn it. 😳
I thought Yilmaz to Lazio had hit a snag?
Viviano is done
http://palermocalcio.it/it/1314/news/scheda.php?id=28890
BBC confirming Ozil and saying announcement within the hour.
For sure. If Giroud stays healthy and staying in anything like his current form, 25-30 goals are an entirely realistic ceiling for him this year.
It’s worth mentioning, too, how this will affect the rest of the squad. They must’ve wondered at times this summer whether the club they play for was really going to go for it, to bring in the additions they needed to put them into the top tier. And after their performances in the last four games, think how it must feel to know that Ozil is on his way…huge psychological boost. Massive.
Let’s not forget, Arteta, Vermaelen, and the Ox are very close to returning the squad. The thin red line has got its reinforcements.
Spot on @ 349.
Squad has looked thin lately because of injuries. Look at Spurs at the weekend? Who were they missing through injury? Anyone?
By my count we were without: Arteta, Vermaelen, Ox, Sagna (for most of the game), Wilshere (for half the game), Podolski.
That’s six players who could easily have featured in our starting XI.
Start getting some of them back and things will look a lot better. I would still like us to add a back up striker (Ba), but otherwise I think we’re reasonably well covered.
We can also always add again in January if needs be. I’d imagine the well is not dry.
One more signing needed then, eh?
Wenger.
N7, you are right, just checked, Yilmaz is still Galata player, although I am sure I’ve read somewhere that Lazio signed him for as little as 10m.
@g’linc
You are absolutely right. The confidence that must be flowing through the dressing room may be mind boggling. If Ozil settles in early, is it pushing the boundaries of hope to talk about a title push?
Lurky, according to BBC, Yilmaz deal stalled and now Lazio signed another striker who is non-EU so they cant sign Yilmaz now anyways. Price was mooted as £15m.
Cheers, N7.
And don’t forget, too, what Ozil does for the club’s media “narrative.” Other top players much more likely to consider us with the likes of him in the squad, and with the intent the club have shown to get him.
It really should be doable to add a serviceable backup striker in the next 5 hrs. And if we do that, I’m really convinced we’re in good shape. I’m fine with the defense as it is, and Flamini looked excellent yesterday. Not arsed by the calls for an “enforcer” ala Toure or Viera.
Anybody excited yet?!!!?!
😉
http://www.101greatgoals.com/gallery/gimages/image/iniestaozil/#.UiTJHvLIngU.twitter
Terrible player…NEVER a matchwinner 😉
Where’s Snir?
He is having a medical at Sky. Replacement for Jim White on a three year deal
Ozil is great business well worth the wait and clear to see why we had to wait for it to happen. A backup striker is certainly now the priority and I would be happy with Ba in that role tho he may not be the only iron in the fire. Don’t know anything about the Italian keeper but adds experience to Szcz’s backup options. As noted above TV5 and MA8 are due back soon to add to our defensive pool. Meanwhile Flamini looks like the defensive MFer we have been lacking for years. I loved that first biting challenge, his vocal direction of his new colleagues and his buzzing about. Looking good.
COYRs
THMBD
Solid @ 353
A lot of ground to make up on last term for a title push.
I’d say a realistic goal for this season is a cup (get that monkey off our back), an easy top 4 finish (none of that last day malarkey) and the young players (primarily Jack) continuing to develop.
Then strengthen again next summer and we can start talking titles. Main thing right now is to get the momentum moving in the right direction.
COYG
And NO Gareth Fuckin’ Barry. Heh.
Right, gonna wind down for a bit by watching the highlights from the 1-0 the other day…
In the meantime, I want to say this again, have a look at the squad again, and our results the past 17 games or so, if we get Özil, our backup goalkeeper (with the option to buy). Already got one of the best centre back pairings in the league, two good left backs, two good right backs, isn’t it time we started thinking about extending that contract Wenger is on?
It feels so fcuking good to be able to say it in public again….
…… Arsene Knows.
Toby @ 363
Amen to that. Sign him up Ivan, sign him up!
Sunday showed you can spend all the dough you want on players, appoint all the technical directors you like.
If you’ve not got the right man in the dugout then it doesn’t mean Jack.
And, by the way – while we’re on the subject, we’ve got Jack too. So fcuk off you Spuds.
And it takes us back into the group if clubs who purchase top top players. Important to break that ice again. Let the floodgates open. 🙂
I believe our transfer record is that about to exceed that of any club in the country, bar Chelsea.
That mean, penny-pinching Wenger with his psychotic devotion to the youth project and pathological aversion to spending money…. whatever happened to him?
Too right 363 and 364.
Sign him up.
Sky Germany: Representatives from Arsenal & Real Madrid & Ozil’s camp are in Munich. Deal to be closed any minute now
It is happening!
367. As you well know he was a temporary necessity. It was indeed a good plan to tide us over the predicted financially lean years but was sadly blunted by the defections of some and the failure if some others to develop as expected. Times past. Here’s to Wengerball 4 …. Or is it 5?
@ 371
God bless that old miser – his ability to pinch the pennies and still deliver a top four finish is what’s brought us that shiny stadium, those gleaming commercial revenues and the ability to buy a world class 24 year old German international with eyes on either side of his head for £43m.
Unthinkable stuff.
Let’s watch Liverpool and the LWCs try to repeat the trick with the mugs they’ve currently go in their dug-outs.
One Arsene Wenger.
“Start of a new era at Arsenal,” Kevin Kilbane.
N7, knows!
Too true N7, too true.
Extraordinary achievement. Unrecognised by far too many so called Gooners let alone the lower pond life who still have that hurdle to get over.
As if more was needed…
…. Sky Germany have just reported that Wenger is one of the major factors which convinced Ozil to join us.
Don’t want to be too effusive here: Wenger is human and he makes mistakes, shouldn’t be immune to criticism… but my god he’s owed an apology or two this evening.
Some of the stick he’s taken from the press and a small section of our own support these last few years has been bang out of order and he’s proved them wrong time and time again. With our league finishes (top four his “greatest achievement” the last two season – thank you MOTD), with the players (Ramsey, Giroud, Theo, etc – all not good enough at one stage or another), and now in the transfer market.
The guy has total respect from me. Criticise him, by all means, but from here on in I think he has to be shown respect again, because he’s earned it – big time.
I’ll leave it at that. I could go on all night.
Watch the Ozil deal collapse now and make me eat my words!
Striker light guv’nor…. Ommmmmmmmmm
N7, Of course it was. It wasn’t our trophies the last few years. It was a combination of a high salary, good results the last half a year, great manager and how the manager can really show how the addition of the player himself could really be what tips it into something really special. It’s a perfect combination for a player such as Özil. Still just 24 and will be the big star at a club that has every chance of improving year after year from here on out. And I believe it is very clear for Özil to see how important Wenger has been to that happening. Not saying he wouldn’t have liked to stay at RM, but when he had to leave, of course he’d rather go to Arsenal than Utd, I’m sure.
Also feel I owe a bit of an apology to Gazidis.
Was doubting him big time last week, but he’s done great. Got us on a sound commercial footing, backed the manager in the market and kept us classy.
Well done Ivan. Same again next summer, with a couple of lessons learned and a bit more savvy in how we do things.
We signed anyöne yet?
Right – going to have a bit of a breather and calm down.
God knows what it’s going to feel like when we win something playing actual football, because this has been ace.
Nice one snowy, had me laughing hard enough to make me almost Vivi in my pants.
Gotta hand it to Arsene. If he had this one up his sleeve all summer, it must have been all he could do to keep his mouth shut.
Still not sure that we have done enough, defence still looks thin, centrally in particular, but this could well, as said previously, be enough to get a pot in the cabinet and teach the young guns what it feels like to lift something heavy!
I hope it is enough, I truly do. Regardless of everything, I have NEVER wavered from my desire to see AW succeed once again, even if I have doubted his ability to do so. January could be interesting too now.
No more lather, rinse, repeat for me!!!
What a fucking brilliant 24 hours in which to be a Gooner! And nobody can say that we haven’t deserved it after all these years.
Getting somewhere close to the best that we can be, finally.
True N7.
Heh Snowy ….. goal keeper called Valerie. But not the man with the umlaut. Yet
381; shöw öff… 🙂
Heh, Loving the new ö, snöwy.
TW.
I don’t believe for a second that Ozil was part of any master plan.
Agreed H2H. Or rather, he might well have been on a longer shortlist (erhm…) but I don’t think he was our main target in the beginning of the summer at all. Having that said, it’s about taking your chances with players such as that and AGAIN – In some way he is. The masterplan was to build us a new stadium, get that paid by taking on quite crappy up front sponsor deals, get us through the lean years, find gems when we could, stick by our players and our manager, let them all get better as a group and then finally get our new deals and our new stadium generating money to buy players such as Özil.
Özil himself part of a masterplan? No. But our ability to get him. Absofuckinglutely.
If he (Ozil) joins that what number will he take?
My money is on 11.
I guess I know what you mean H2H. But the Bale deal does appear to have been done since the beginning of the summer and yet only now are Real allowing a similar player to leave. Could it be this was what REALLY happened with Higuain? Arsene got wind of MO and felt it a better play?
Who can say where AW is concerned, but I for one am more relieved that we have “broken the duck”, so to speak.
plz announce the signing already. not doing my heart a lotta good…this waiting 🙂
Feckin’ great this DD stuff! (Puffs away on his pipe in contentment)
380; N7; Ive also given IG stick, His proclamations back in June about our financial clout porbably were ill advised in hindsight, but his ability to conclude those amazing mega-sponsorship deals and all the rest has really laid the foundations for this soon to be announced (please make it happen!) deal for a truly world class player.
But I have seriously questioned the manager mainly stemming from the frustration of the lack of deals that were exacerbated by that opening day defeat. I couldnt see whay we hadnt signed anyone of note and with all the departures our squad is still thin and we are in the last few hours of the window…
But gettin Ozil will be a huge coup and one that hopefully will be the first of many quality transfers for the club and ones that I hope Wenger is the one doing the signing…
If we sign Ozil and Ba this evening I’ll be satisfied. If we add DM cover I’ll be over the moon, even though that seems unlikely at this time.
However not signing a striker would be a massive risk.
It’s all speculation ofcourse TW, but I’d say that it was highly unlightly. I don’t even think OM had an inclining that he was surplus to requirements until very recently.
Plus we’ve (supposedly) been in the market for a world class striker all summer. Ozil, world class? Yes indeed. A striker? No, not at all.
It’s now on the . Con…Emiliano is now an Arsenal player.
I think its safe to assume the plan has changed several times over the summer, with regard to our big name signing. But that doesnt excuse the lack of additions elsewhere. I still think we need a defendier, or versatile player who can cover CB and midfield.
And then there’s still the small matter of the striker….. Ommmmmmmmm
Assist
A hopeful punt towards the goal………
I wonder if we’ll get a completely out of the blue signing too…..
Ommmmmmmm
Boom
We need Snir to close the deal!
Maybe we should’ve signed Peter Ommmmmmmmmmm-demwingie…?
Well in H2H! The roles have been switched.
KikeMarin, I don’t bother translating it’s understandable
Özil ya es del @Arsenal por 42+3 millones de euros. Gran fichaje de los gunners!!
We can always count on the Prince of Danish to be our new signing.
Or even Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmar Abdul-Rahman
Two thoughts. Would Ozil move if he was the only one coming in? Also grudging respect for Levy in not only holding all the cards for so long but also in burying the bad news story of losing Bale by holding it over to TDD.
Burak Yilmaz anyone?
SSN sayin spuds in for Ba….. BBC sayin West Ham are too….
Arseblog say Ba has passed a medical.
Suspect club want to announce both players at once.
Maybe we’ll get Ade back…. Ahh good times….
Excellent point about burying bad news KVC@410. I’m not sure what Totnum have gained by letting things run for so long and I have no doubt the idea was to soften the blow by announcing Bale’s departure after a good result at the Grove.
It didn’t work out that way did it Daniel? Goes to show what happens when you believe your own hype.
Oummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Oummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Oummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
N7; Oooh OK…. That sounds better than my alternative option…
Chelsea want 3m loan fee, we want to offer 1.5m.
Great work Snir, keep it coming…..
£3m is a ridick amount for a one year loan, but depends how desperate we are…. There’s plenty of time to get in other strikers…
Ommmmmmmmmmmm
First picture of Viviano in an Arsenal shirt, he looks so Zen http://t.co/uwMOEntcid
@101greatgoals: The Daily Mail say Ozil is done. We wait for official confirmation…
Demba Ba’s representatives confirm that both Arsenal & Chelsea have enquired. CFC have agreed terms with another PL club, but Ba wants CL.
@gunnerblog: Demba Ba’s representatives confirm that both Arsenal & Chelsea have enquired. CFC have agreed terms with another PL club, but Ba wants CL.
Oh gawd, I dont want those dark pessimistic thoughts to creep back in….
Ommmmmmmmmmmm…
According to some random geordie hack on SSN, the chavs have turned down offers from the spuds and Arsenal, but accepted one from another PL team… However, the player wants CL football…
Make of that what you will…. Coz I’m fooked if I get it…
Then again, its from one of Demba Ba’s 46 agents, so there could be a bit of chinese whispers goin on here, purple monkey dishwasher…
Apparently Mert had a big part in convincing Ozil to come to Arsenal. Remember when they were playing together at Werder couple of years ago.
@Arsenal: Emiliano Viviano speaks after signing for #Arsenal http://t.co/wbhWWWIYqx Use #WelcomeViviano to post your messages! http://t.co/GiPuyhdFOz
Ba wants CL football, Chelsea don’t want to loan to us
Hopefully in a “We’re a really good team, it’s great here, we need you to make us click” kind of way and not a “The wages are fucking ridiculous and all you have to do is finish fourth to keep the boss happy” kind of way 😉
Rooney it is then…
@RuuAndThatsAll: “@Arseholic: Daily mail saying Arsene and BFG convinced Özil to join – http://t.co/t2llN10Iui” YES PER
That was to Lurky @ 425
Anyone seen pictures of Viviano? He looks eerily like Almunia. Hope that’s where the similarities end though.
At the risk of being greedy, I’d have loved Julio Ceasar though, preferably on loan.
Has gots loads he could teach Szcz.
But Viviano it is. Welcome Emiliano!
Hope you’re as good as you were for my Arsenal team on FM 2010.
Pulis choking on Ozil signing. Finding it hard to say anything positive about Arsene or Arsenal. Prick.
Yeah, what do people know about Viviano? Anyone seen him play? Is he basically going to be our third choice? I’ve heard rumor he’s a little dodgy.
Demba Ba currently deciding if he wants his assists laid on by Aaron Lennon or Mesut Ozil.
83 agents helping him reach a verdict.
Ba may not come as Chelsea are said to be dealing with Everton over Lukaku
432; I never understood the clamour for Cesar. He WAS quality for Inter about 4 years ago, but has been woefully inconsistent since and he would get absolute pelters at AFC the very first time he messed up. You just look at how mistakes by all other PL teams keepers get completely white washed.
Szczesny will be an awesome GK and with this solid italian dude behind him, will only help his development and we have an able deputy too. Although I thought Fabianski was bloody amazing last season.
If we can eradicate the individual errors (Im lookin at Szczesny, Sagna, Kos and Vermealen mainly) we will be right up there, as long as we are luckier with injuries and form.
Italians always have good keepers. That is enough for me. Having said that, I remembered Mannone but anyway.
Us getting rid of Bendtner is reliant on Arsenal getting a replacement.
I hope by replacement they mean a striker, not a lazy egotisitcal waste of space banana-footed piss head…
Get that striker in….. It will also result in NB52 effing off too!!! Win/win!
@DaveHytner: Ozil fee will be €50m (£42.5m). Deal close. Just a matter of process/ paperwork now. Just wondering whether it will make our 1st edition …
What?!?!?!
Crystal Palace tell SSN that Nicklas Bendtner’s move to the club depends on Arsenal signing a replacement.
That is great. Yes baby. Come on, bring Ba, pleaseeeeeee.
SSN: “Palace confident a deal for Bendtner is close but depends on Arsenal getting another striker in.” And arseblog saying TGSTEL has a medical at Palace.
All we need is Ba in, folks, then Bendtner can go, Ozil already in, and we can break out the champagne.
@GraemeBailey: Romelu Lukaku possibly allowed to leave Chelsea for Everton. Can’t imagine they would let both him and Demba Ba leave tonight.
@johncrossmirror: Struggle to believe Bendtner to Palace is dependent on Arsenal signing a striker. Bendtner is a million miles from Arsenal’s first team.
What a strike partnership Bendtner and Chamakh would make, eh eh? 🙂 🙂
So we got the boy Ozil then?
Well we also signed A NEW FAN this afternoon!!!!!!
Porco Rossette entered goonerdom today (having started her ‘journey’ in the middle of the NLD – true Gooner!)!!!
Nothing else to day except unbelievable feeling.
So we got the boy Ozil then?
Well we also signed A NEW FAN this afternoon!!!!!!
Porco Rossette entered goonerdom today (having started her ‘journey’ in the middle of the NLD – true Gooner!)!!!
Nothing else to say except unbelievable feeling.
As for Woj.
I want someone to please tell me three things:
1) what goals were his fault?
2) how many points did he cost us?
3) how many points did he win us us?
Answers are:
1) S’oton in the 6-1 win, Villa in 2-1 win, Muller’s goal vs. Bayern.
2) 0.
3) At least 4 – Sunderland away, and QPR away and perhaps even Fulham away.
Whoops, double post. Worth saying twice I reckon.
Congrats Porco. Fine timing by the young Goonerette.
He is a headstrong young puppy and makes dreadful decisions fairly often, Snir. But he is young, so… bit of competition does him good.
Congratulations Porco.
Concern over delays in Ozil’s deal.
Work behind scenes by Kroenke, Gazadis, and Wenger to make it happen.
Snir. Do NOT say that.
@JWTelegraph: No issues on Ozil – Arsenal putting together statement and lawyers reading and re-reading contract. It’s all agreed and medical done
Congrats Pörco. And what fantastic timing 🙂
Snir, they have to cross the t’s and dot the o’s. 🙂
Congratulations, Porco Rosso, and welcome to a lifetime of goonerdom, Rosette!
Congratulations Porco – the best signing you will ever make. 😉
Chelsea and AFC have agreed on principle about a loan deal – now haggling over the fee.
Who knew ? 😉
Norris @437; I didn’t watch all of QPR’s games last season, but the few times I watched them play, Ceasar was rock solid. I watched ALL of Brazil’s game at the Confed Cup & Ceasar was class.
Though I’ve never seen him play, I’m happy with Viviano, but I feel in terms of quality alone, Ceasar would have been the better option.
Don’t worry guys it’s done.
@sudiptarsenal: Jerome Boateng Wishing Good Luck to Ozil at Arsenal !! https://t.co/OnULB9HVwL
Oh, get IN Demba Ba! I don’t remember the last time I felt this exhilarated re: the Arsenal. I really don’t. Also tired…
Guys, do you realize how different this year will be? Regardless of where we finish (and I do think we’ll improve), just knowing we’re headed UP again means everything.
🙂 🙂
@northbanklower: Please don’t panic. Özil is done. Amazing signing.
Congratulations Porco.
Bubbles on me.
Cynic @452,
Agreed, and Viviano is only a season loan initially.
Good learning time for Woj, and the fact is that, at the moment, he is too rash. His last three performances were excellent, but vs Aston Villa there were some real Keystone Cops moments.
Congrats Porco!
Snir; Szczesny will be a great keeper, but last season wasnt his best and he was dropped due to poor form. This season he will be better for that experience and he is a Gooner, so all good for that position for a good few years.
Heh @ G Linc.
Agreed Snir.
Nobody else involved – Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke all apparently determined to make it happen.
If the Chavs are letting Lakaku go, why not make a checky bid?
Just offer a few quid more then the Toffies,
Am I the only one slightly concerned at how long this is all taking???? I am slightly on edge here. The deal was close at 10am. Still nothing confirmed with less than 3 hours left. Bendtner to Palace hinges on us bringing in a striker???? That effectively means that if it doesn’t happen then Bendtner is back in contention????? Surely not?
All we have confirmed is a reserve goalkeeper who I will be honest, I had never heard of.
Sat here slightly worried. I have heard more than one “done deal” story this window.
Come on boys, don’t let me down now.
470; Agreed. He was a monster for WBA last season. Although he wouldnt play every week at AFC.
Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Crimson Pig.
And welcome to the newborn. Great timing.
Guess I picked the wrong month to give up drinking???
Many congrats Mr and Mrs Porco.
Steve – it’s done.
Jerome Boateng just posted an Instagram picture wishing luck to ozil at afc.
He knows. They’re together with the German NT.
Norris – every keeper makes mistake. But his mistakes didn’t cost us points. Unless you can give me an example.
Zen, Steve, zen.
It’s done, they’re just dotting the Os and crossing the Ts.
Can’t we just complete the Ozil contract with a few verbal agreements – they hold up ok don’t they ?
😉
Ba not happening, says John Cross. Chelsea don’t want to let him go to a rival. Plan B lads? (Or C, or D?)
Looks like I picked the wrong week to give up sniffing glue…
Snir; His form was patchy, he got dropped for it, as did TV5. That was last season and if he can cut out that shit we will be better off. He looked a bit rusty vs Villa but has been excellent since. Not sure where you wanna go with this one.
Seems a no-brainer. 🙂
Jinx, N7. 🙂
Snir. I trust you implicitly but you will forgive my reluctance to believe it until I see it officially announced. Especially after events of recent years.
I do think that by not signing an experienced keeper a few seasons ago that we have let Shezza down somewhat. Yes he is inexperienced, he does make mistakes and poor decisions, but for me he has masses of potential. If he had that mentor figure then I feel he would have been far better catered for.
John Croos doesnt have the ear of the Henry statue outside the Grove never mind any actual human being who might know anything to do with our transfer business.
Steve T. For my part you are forgiven. Totally understandable. The burned hand teaches best.
But if it was off, we’d at least be hearing whispers, you would think?? Instead of universal confirmation?
Chavs block Ba move to Arsenal as we are a rival club but happy for Moses to go to Scunts – interesting.
In case anyone wants a chuckle, I just listened to the Sunday supplement podcast. Was this really only recorded less than 48 hours ago?
Lots of egg on hack faces. Here are some sample quotes re: Arsenal:
“Spurs are wiping the floors with arsenal’s negotiators”, “they’re going to have another disastrous summer”, “arsenal cannot get players across the line”, “you can only blame Wenger, he’s stubborn and disorganised”, “I have no sympathy for Wenger, just the fans”, “it’s a farce”, “it’s become embarrassing”, “why would Draxler join Arsenal?”
Nice one lads. You got this one spot on!
Norris @483, let’s hope. It does make a ton of sense, though, that Chelsea wouldn’t want to let Ba go to an improving rival, especially when their remaining strike options are Torres and Lukaku (who’s linked with Everton). Don’t forget, Moses is at Liverpool now as well. Not a strike option, but he is an attacking player.
Demba Ba Humbug.
Steve – I meant they’re with the German NT right now, meaning surely they talked about his transfer.
Snir,
Love Woj’s character and apparent commitment to The Arsenal, but his positional play and decision making coming off his line need a fair bit of improvement.
A year’s shared experience with this guy who understudies Buffon for his national side won’t do any harm.
@ 479 I think we are down to Plan G on the striker list.
@bbcsport_david: Demba Ba’s proposed season-long loan from Chelsea to Arsenal is OFF. #Cfc have decided they do not want to sell to a rival #bbcfootball #afc
@bbcsport_david: Arsenal’s €50m signing of Ozil is being processed. Essentially done and dusted. Announcement in next couple of hours #bbcfootball #afc #rmfc
N7. I listened last night. Even then they had their arses out the windae as we say in Caledonia. Now their bollox are out as well.
But they will have NO shame.
Trev – all these are fair concerns, but to me a keeper should be judged on points he costs his team or win his team.
He did not cost us points last season and won us at least 4 points.
Surely by now its down to plan Ommmmmmm…..
Michu???
@ bath 491. Plan G seems to be working out so far. 🙂
Ozil!
Out of the blue…bang!
Back drinking. See congratulations are in order! Welcome little Rossette, God bless you little one. You’re in good hands 😉
Agree with Snir re: Woj.
@johncrossmirror: That’s it now for Arsenal. Don’t expect anything else. Viviano and Ozil represents a big day for #afc. Ozil among top 10 players in world
Steve T.In all honesty Gerry Peyton should be the old hand /shoulder for Chez to lean on and seek advice. There is also his father who he has regular contact with.Otherwise any class keeper would prefer to play regularly as long as possible rather than be a young upcoming keepers playmate.
Fellaini hands in a transfer request with less than 3 hours to go…. You stay Classy Moyes…
What a desperate cheap skate move.
Through ball to…
congratulations, porco and mrs. piggy on the arrival and swaddling in red and white of miss piggy…
SSN – major developments about to be announced at Arsenal.
Back after the break ……. doh !
@northbanklower: Twitter has fucked Sky Sports News. They don’t break anything anymore. #skysports5minsago
504; Agree with that. Hart didnt need an older GK, well he needs replacing now, but those first couple of seasons, he was number one and about the age Szczesny is now. Just part of the steep learning curve for a young GK I think.
Trev – probably the Ba news.
SSN are behind all day.
Wow, back to training for me.
Congrats to mr & mrs Porco Rosso.
508; They are announcing the signing of Sanogo…
We need a striker. We do not have enough cover up front.
@101greatgoals: Done Deal! Everton bag Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku on a year loan deal [Belgium sources] http://t.co/IV8TdF2ebN
Better luck next time Pa. The pace is extra zippy today.
and welcome to the gooniverse Mademoiselle Cochon Rose
Why we didn’t bid for Lukaku?
Oh man, cannot beleieve we wont get a striker…. Almost ruins the whole Ozil signing news…
Well good for Lukaku and Everton, if that one’s true. I kind of like him when he’s not playing for Chelsea, and boy do Everton need him. Jelavic has been dead in the water for a long time.
Picture of Boateng and Özil ten weeks old. Doesn’t change a thing though. The words in the tweet are still the same.
C-Ommmmmmmmm-e on Arsenal! Get a striker in…..
520 Norris, sadly, but you have a point.
We must get a striker, cannot rely on Giroud in both PL and CL, he works too much for the team in the games, he will be knackered.
But there is still hope …
German outlet, “Kicker” are reporting that Zinedine #Zidane has blocked the #Özil move to #Arsenal.
Ba off only now on SSN.
Very late.
I think Toby made a good point about a striking option.
With Ozil supplying the ammo maybe the plan would be to play Theo through the middle.
May need di Maria then.
What’s happened to that ?
Ouch, nice bit of business by Everton (if true)
Jose is a cuntbucket.
I don’t like this. Something is clearly wrong….
No, Norris @520, respectfully, no it doesn’t. I have to disagree. Yes, we need one, and yes it’s a disappointment that we didn’t pull off the Higuain deal (as I said earlier, I think that will go down as our biggest error of this transfer window). But Ozil is still huge. Massive. A tide-turner.
We have last year’s strike force, plus Ozil. Giroud is much improved as well. He has the potential to score a ton of goals this year, but we don’t need him to be a one man team. We are a more democratic team, we’ll spread the goals around.
And who knows? Still 2+ hrs to go…
Lurky; Do you only have a hotline to all the doom laden transfer stories man? 🙂
Trev; Maybe Mata! 🙂
Poldi will be out for a while, but hopefully he can do a job up top, as will Walcott be able to do with Cazorla and Özil behind him. So many good assists just waiting for a quick player like Walcott. Having that said, Giroud gives us loads of other things than goals, which and I really do believe that we could use another striker. Having that said, Sanogo is here, our midfield is crowded with people that can play on the wings and we’ve got a few nice prospects still coming up from the academy.
Speaking of, I can’t imagine how it must feel to be Eisfeld when looking at our midfield 8 (not including Diaby).
Congrats Porco, little Rosette brought Ozil with her, God bless her.
Congratulations Porco!
BMBD
Lurky – think its a troll.
Nothing on their website.
Seen it on my TL but ppl claiming its a troll.
Plus – Ornstein is the club’s mouthpiece. Would never have said done if it wasn’t.
Cheers Trev, apparently didn’t have to try to formulate it again, and in a worse way this time. Getting tired I think…
We need a striker, simple.
Looks like it’s the case Norris. I am fucking shaking.
Just announce Ozil, I don’t care if we sign no striker, Walcott can play one or we can play 4-6-0. I want Ozil.
Ahh man, this is like the run in last season…. All thet torture and nervousness tension of those last 12 games all rolled into a few hours….
Lurky – it’s fake. For sure.
H2H – don’t think we’ll get a striker if not Ba.
We do, H2H, but he might still come from the academy or in january. I would love one, yes, but we’ve got plenty of goalscorers now. I can’t see us missing out on that many goals with Giroud injured, but I do see the problem with us scraping through harder games without the possibility of hoofing the ball to a forward that can hold it up. And we will let in more goals on corners with Walcott on the top.
Again, with the players we’ve got now, we will see goals. Giroud gives us something else. That is what we need to go for, if we still get a forward.
We need a striker…..
Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…..
Must be relying on Bendtner as third choice unless there is a Plan H.
Lurky – he will sign. Boateng’s words are telling!
Take it easy man.
It will happen when it happens and if not, then not.
We are the Arsenal and we shall prevail.
Bendy would be Plan L.
L as i Like a new sig…….
Nah, I just can’t do it.
If we don’t get a striker, well, that’s what you get for leaving it to the end. The Ozil deal could have easily fallen in, too. Look, I’m still thrilled, ecstatic actually, but Wenger played a very dangerous game this summer. Passing up Higuain was his big mistake IMO. An understandable one, but a mistake. A little bad luck today and we’d really be up shit creek.
I get that he probably had contingency plans, but we all know he doesn’t like to “panic buy” and most of us would have been very displeased if that’s what it had come to. Nor is he adverse to sitting out a DD in the face of enormous evidence that he needs to add to his squad.
120 mins left……….
A top striker has been the priority for over a year, so not signing one is an epic fuck up and now I realise, too late, that I have reverted to type; bitchin and moaning again just when I was all euphoric…..
No complaining, 2 hours to go.
Still need a couple more. Defender and striker. I guess the Rooney move is not happening lol
@MuppetGooner: Arsenal didn’t want to pay Demba Ba high loan fee. Nothing to do with rival bid – BBC 5 Live.
Jose loves fucking us over with the loan fees eh?
Ok guys, I’m gonna throw this one out there. Ian Darke is tweeting that Ba has passed his Arsenal medical.
Which makes no sense, especially if Lukaku is headed to the Toffees.
But here ya go: RT @chelseabuzztap: We Ain’t Got No History >> Report: Demba Ba passes Arsenal medical http://t.co/mixgbjuePO
http://www.weaintgotnohistory.com/2013/9/2/4686816/demba-ba-arsenal-transfer-chelsea-deadline-day
Come on everyone. 2 more hours of zen.
553; Would seem a tad ironic IF the reason we didnt sign a striker was out of a refusal to pay £1m extra after spending over £40m on Ozil…
@LadyArse: If what I’m told is correct, and I’ve no reason to doubt it, the hold-up is the two clubs can’t agree who announces it first. Seriously.
This is all going to go tits up.
Well in Upply. I can;t believe that no-one else has congratulated you upon your fine strike. It’s not as though there’s anything significant going on elsewhere, is there?
By the way – looks like normal service in the You Ropey League, bittne nails right through the season!
BBC saying Bendner staying put….
Fuck sake, what a fucking pathetically shitty end to a horrendously frustrating transfer window.
556; Thats hilarious!
@556 actually it’s pretty simple to refute such a claim. No reason for Madrid to be in a rush to announce the departure of their best midfielder.
Teves, Villa, Higuain ALL eminently doable and the first 2 fucking ridiculously affordable.
Sorry, but this is just such a let down, given our propensity for injuries. Giroud gets an injury and we are screwed…
Unless…. Ommmmmmmmmmmmm…..
If the Ba desk falls through because we won’t agree the fee then that is a major error in my opinion.
Less that 2 hours and still no news on a deal that was close 11 hours ago.
Norris. It could still be worse. Chill. Keep those fingers crossed.
Ba deal even….
Hear hear bath @564. 2 more hours of zen, folks.
@wolexis: EXCLUSIVE: PSG in last minute move to sign Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria!!! #TransferDeadlineDay (Mirror)
Get him Arsene!!!
564; Just venting, I still dont imagine Arsene not signing a striker…
Oh wait, we still have Park, we are saved…. Yayyyy!!!
If Ba didn’t go through it was because of them wanting to get Lukaku out on loan instead, and/or that Chelsea don’t want to get us exactly what we need after signing Özil. Not because of us not paying enough.
Ok, I have come to only two possible solutions re. this delay.
Either we are waiting for surprise signing to be announced with Ozil
or
Ozil is not done, and will never be, because he found out that in England people drive on the wrong side of the road, or whatever…
Okay Norris, point made. Teves, guy is a complete distraction. Obviously, we didn’t want Villa. Re: Higuain, there is something behind the scene will never know about.
Ba wasn’t on my radar but he would do. But the SSFM message obviously hasn’t sunk in. Quibbling over £1.5 is pathetic.
Just getting that sicky feeling now. Wishing the time away now.
Chill out folks.
We waited three months. We can wait 100 odd minutes.
What will be will be. Suspect Ozil is done. Suspect Ba deal not dead. Suspect we’ll be looking at other options.
572; I dont believe that refusal to stump up £3m loan fee spin. More like Jose not wanting to loan us a player.
We are on a sinking ship. Two lifeboats. Which holics do you want in yours? Ha Ha! 🙂
Ommmmmmm
Why do we need Di Maria? We have – Ozil (hopefully) Ramsey, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Arteta, Walcott, Rosicky and Flamini in midfield.
Adding Di Maria would be like having breast implants when you have 42DD tits.
@563 Steve T,
The Ozil deal was never closed in the first place. The bookies have kept the odds constant on this matter, since 3pm today – at 1/20. There’s no free lunch, is there?
Norris @various,
We have Podolski and Walcott, the Sanogo as back up.
In fact, if we ever play Cazorla and Ozil in the wings, I’d even say that it would be pretty fun to have Podolski as the main striker on such occasions. 🙂
Official: Lille’s highly-rated attacking midfielder Florian Thauvin joins Marseille for £8.5m plus bonuses.
This is where, instead of Marseille, it should be written Arsenal. Watched him for France U21, cracking player.
Ommmmmmmmmmm…. Right, Im off, see you all after the 11pm Arsenal inquest/melt down/mass suicide pact/MO Money party/Euphoric Crystal meth rave/
Chavs pulled plug on Ba deal and told Wet Spam also not leaving now. Earlier were happy for him to move to Spam but NOT to us. I presume TGSTEL is seen as a stopgap backup in case Plan M does not come off in next 95 minutes.
Twitter ITK says don’t panic re Ozil it’s cool.
That’ll do me.
Heh abb @ 575. Quite!
Still hanging out for Rooney and/or Fellaini…
Oskar
@saschariether welcome to London @MesutOzil1088
So short on numbers…
Who is the saddest man in England today do you reckon? Fabianski?
cynic, prolly pedro and his ilk at leg rash.
They’re clearly holding back the Ozil announcement so that the fans go less batshit if we don’t find a striker.
Right move.
lol, young jack has just tweeted don’t worry about him travelling north up the motorway, he’s only just off to meet up with the England boys lol
I would guess that a striker deal will happen at approximately 11pm.
Announcements after that. I don’t believe for a minute we’re not looking for a forward.
Hey I-Bath 😉 Adore all the holics, we are a funny sort!
Lukaku has decided to go to WBA.
walcott ozil cazorla
striker
can’t imagine any striker available with an ounce of sense turning down *that* chance. as someone said, giroud must be a hfwh (a handsome french walking hardon) at the moment.
Lukaku on his way back to West Brom. Any reason why we were not interested?????
85 mins to go and no news on a striker. Perhaps we will activate the Suarez buy out clause? Oh yeah…..
It’s done! Calm down.
@saschariether: welcome to London @MesutOzil1088
Congratulations Porco. Glass being raised here of an unbelievable scotch 😉
Be ready for a huge fucking shock from Arsenal before 11pm. I can say no more at the moment…
Fuck my old boots we are signing one of the best players in the world yes the world, Smashing our transfer record and showing for the first time in years a fucking modicum of ambition and people still moan, And I’m a miserable cunt Lol, Chill people no point buying players he doesn’t want just for the sake of it ! Cross your fingers and hope Giroud makes it to xmas 😉 It’s so much more than just a player it’s a statement we are back, where one goes others will follow !
Up The Arse!
Cynic…you’re such a tease…booooo
BMBD
Cynic. Behave ffs. We are on the edge here.
I would have loved to get Lukaku Steve.
Goal
Strong rumours on the striker front. No name at the moment…
Damn. I’m just like Utd. In too late.
Cynic, you merciless tease!
I’m just doing a Jim White impression. I know less than him really.
Sorry
You should wait until I do my Natalie Sawyer though 😉
Morgan Schneiderlin.
Like him!!!!! Come on!
@MurrayGroves: I understand Arsenal may be submitting a late £12m bid for a Southampton player. I’m assuming either Shaw or Schneiderlin #SaintsFC #AFC
Lambert? Jay Rodriguez?
Fuck me, I’ve scored. I will stand by the phone with my notching ability today.
Lurky – follow me. I wanna DM you
Hope the shock ain’t TGPTEL being paraded around LANS 😀
May be submitting a bid???? With 75 mins to go???? That would take shambles to a whole new level.
Huge shock?
Hmmm… has it turned out that Newcastle DID score after all?
Holic @596. You have BtM in a glass and are raising him. You are even stronger than you look. 🙂
Sign him up Arsene. There’s still 75 minutes.
Snir, we already follow each other… DM sounds interesting…
What Chippy said,
Even if it doesn’t happen, it shows that we are ready to be back in the big time.
It will.
I’m with you h2h.
If we get Morgan Schneirderlin I. WILL. BE. CHUFFED!
Snir, I want that DM too.
Doubt Chavs would have let us have Lukaku if they vetoed Ba.
We already got a DM Cent – Flamini.
From the Beeb.
It’s bound to all kick-off in the next hour or so, when Dan Walker will present a Transfer Deadline Day special edition of Football Focus from 2235 BST.
He will be joined by an expert panel including ex-Stoke manager Tony Pulis and former Wales international Robbie Savage to round up the day’s events
Experts in what? Cuntology?
Jeez,
We are spending 50m in one day on 2 players – one decent GK and one of the best AM’s in the world and some grumble?
Keep raising the bar for Wenger, before your satisfied.
Need another striker – have you see the handsome French man’s form recently? Poldi, Theo, Ox, Sanogo, TGSTEL, park. Plus a few reserve kids – that’s plenty of attacking options. jack would probably move forward to make room for Ozil too.
And you never know…the granny shagger may be down in Kings Cross tonight.
Arsenal production manager –
@the_petro: @johncrossmirror oh ye of little faith Crossy
In reaction to – @johncrossmirror: That’s it now for Arsenal. Don’t expect anything else. Viviano and Ozil represents a big day for #afc. Ozil among top 10 players in world
Swansea have signed a striker – Vasquez.
Michu ?
How bad is this Park fella if TGSTEL is an option ahead of him?
Trev, DM = Direct Message on Twitter.
@623
Poldi is injured and if you’re really touting Park and Bendy as options then I want some of whatever you’re smoking (please, pretty please)
If Rooneys in Kings Cross, it’s to get a taxi to Soho where he’ll pick up an old brass.
Trev, DM = Direct Message on Twitter
Sky Sports News:
“Arsenal close to signing Mesut Ozil”
I would thank you for schneiderlin and michu, and call it happily a well done day.
trev: that’s so last hour.
La Liga confirm our signing of Ozil.
@Al_PrimerToque: OFICIAL, ÖZIL ya es jugador del ARSENAL. La Liga confirma su baja federativa en España
H2H,
Nah, there are older and uglier ones in Kings Cross. 😉
It was a joke scruz. 😉
I thought they were all geezers Trev.
welcome to arsenal, happy turk!
OFICIAL, ÖZIL ya es jugador del ARSENAL. La Liga confirma su baja federativa en España
@English_AS: It looks like Manchester United have in fact decided not to pay Herrara’s buy-out clause. Story to follow.
Burak Yilmaz is still available if I’m not mistaken…
I don’t use it Cent – wouldn’t know. 🙁
59 mins left…….. Chop chop boys. Getting fractious here.
Yep, Snir already following…
just tryin’ to play along, trevor 😛
60mins to go……….
Balague was on Sky earlier saying United were trying to get an extension to conclude the Herrera deal. If they have been refused that may explain the collapse.
Crap, missed a minute,
SSN still saying the Ozil deal is not done !
New hope – @wayneveysey: Arsenal striker twist: Told AFC are working on a new deal for a forward. Unlikely but not impossible.
No problem, h2h@647; we’re all a little nervous
Arsenal still working on a deal for a striker in the last hour.
From Sky Germany. “This deal will take a little bit longer.”
Deal already done???????????
Lurky – DM me.
Oh no you weren’t, scruz. 😉
I know Trev, my bad.
Balague: Herrera off
Swedish television showing a one sec clip of Özil entering the Emirates.
The Spanish tweet translation by Dr C – La Liga confirmed Ozil left their federation.
Jeez. Utd fans will be brewing.
Fellaini, at best, for more than his release clause.
Oh, the irony, three fycking months, and we are here, in the final hour, working on a deal for a striker. Amazing
Burak Yilmaz? Available for around £10m. Not bad for someone with 81 goals in his last 108 games.
I feel worse than I did yesterday with the spuds laying siege to our goal. How nervewracking is this?. If anything does get wrong it will have massive repercussions
Three fucking months and United only signed Fellaini
Oh and United CAN’T sign Herera because of their misunderstanding of Spanish tax laws.
Yilmaz pleeeeease!
trev, heh.
Herrera deal scuppered by imposters in Bilbao offices !!!!
Fantastic. 🙂
Mata to PSG!?
@hughwizzy: “It’s official: Real Madrid #Özil sold for 45 million euros.”
http://t.co/o6TmYOJL3y
Were all into the transfer madness. Buy him – no HIM. And HiM!!
No DM … Wtf would you all call Flamini- a ballerina!?
DM type player bought. Check box, and move on shall we?
This is ace: https://twitter.com/ivangazidis_/status/374638051420831744
What is Yilmaz ?
Sounds like some kind of yoghurt drink ?
Do we celebrate?
Or wait for the striker to be announced???
Maybe they’ll sign Fjortoft as a thanks for all his tweeting earlier 🙂
Beeb saying that the Daily Fail have Ozil as a Gooner.
@bleedingbonkers : IT’S DONE !!!
Ah, finally, it’s official.
And of course, Swedish TV is now retracting the Özil at Emirates statement saying it was just a hotel… transfer deadline day…
lol, trev…
N7
That is not even funny ha ha
We rule twitter.
@Detective82: Özil has been mentioned on twitter 2.3 million times on twitter today.
Yes, I`ve just seen a pic of Viviano in an Arsenal shirt, and he looks just like Al`s weird brother. He also looks as miserable as sin at the grim prospect of joining the gooners.
The Ozil signing has just been confirmed on the BBC. transfer prog.
@BroadcastMoose: Ozil is an Arsenal player
Toby.
Ozil is in Germany as far as we know.
00:41:15 to go !

Burak Yilmaz is still available…. C’mon Arsene, £10-£15 million should just about do it.
I just wish Arsenal would confirm it…
Oskar
Is this Ozil bloke any good then ?
Yep, saw that H2H. I just couldn’t understand how he got to London so quickly, but of course it is possible, so… But yeah, clip was very low qual and I was watching on a stream.
Anyways, yet again, it’s done.
Still no signings for Manure!
IT IS DONE
biscuit, so long as he is not like weird Al’s brother: http://steeshes.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/weird-al-yankovic-mustache.jpg
He’s done an interview confirming it. WAHOOOOO
Ozil released a statement – it’s done.
We should bid high for Fellaini, if only to push Moyes into a stupid offer, lol
Oskar
Ozzzzzzilllllll!
Amazing moment! Well in.
Ping.
BMBD
Sky Sports have just confirmed the Ozil deal!
Fantastic. NOW get a striker.

Even Cynic dancing – love it!
Worth the wait.
Now for Bevin !
Congrats to all the holics. We have signed a fucking great footballer. I still can’t believe it, but it is real. Cheers all.
woooo hooooooo!
Why is Wenger being criticized for not signing Higuain? The negotiations appeared to be put on hold when Gazidis decided to table an asinine, insolent 40 million and 1 pound bid for Suarez. By many accounts, this was against Wenger’s wishes (at the time, I was shocked Arsene would want a player with such psychological problems) and while we dithered, Napoli came in with a bid which we were unwilling to better. Wenger also had to deal with Daniel Levy’s deliberately delaying Bale’s exit to hamper Arsenal from doing other business with Real. And does anybody else think that the Portuguese Pimp was deliberately stringing along Arsenal with Ba? I was very surprised when I first heard the Ba rumours…
Zip it, Cynic
Two years ago at this stage we were going nuts over Arteta.
Ozil now. That’s fucking progress.
42.2 mil on a 5 year deal!
Come on on bring it on one or two more please….
Dreamland
Already the critics are getting stuck into Manure, in the same way we’ve copped it all window. Love it!
Oskar
We are extremely pleased to have signed Mesut Özil… he has the attributes I look for in a player.” – Arsène Wenger
Well played Snir, btw. 😉
In Arsene I trust. That. Is. All.
I don’t care if we sign a fucking back up striker either.
If you can’t celebrate this moment then what’s the fucking point?!

So where are the trolls now?

And as the Spuds see the prospect of Champions League football disappearing down the Seven Sisters Road ……..
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA 😆
@AAllenSport: AS reporting Per Mertesacker played an instrumental role in persuading former Werder teammate Ozil to sign.
I love our 2011 “panic buys”
Ozil = Özil
Let’s hope the AFC site learns how to spell his name correctly before he actually arrives and before they print all those shirts.
My brother is officially worried. He never says anything to me about football but has just attempted to taunt me that Ozil will be playing Europa League football next season. How do you like them apples, bruv? Slightly bitter are they?
Madrid fans sang, ‘Ozil no se vende’, or ‘Ozil is not for sale’ as world-record signing Gareth Bale was unveiled at the Bernabeu, prompting Florentino Perez to put his finger to his lips.
How fucking briliant is that?

I want you all to look back to the first comment of this blog post.
May I retract that?
Sick? How did he pass the medical? 😉
So Ozil is done, fuck yes!! I mean …wow, well done Arsene and co.
I just love the fact that he was like “Look Tottenscum, I can beat your newly assembled squad for 100 mil with the team I already have, and now I just sign one of the best players in the world just to rub salt in your wounds”
Thats what you get for acting like a cunt Mr. Levy, karma works! SO HAPPY!
Such a long wait for this. Thank you Arsene.

Welcome Mesut. Fantastic signing.

Go get Burak Yilmaz!
20 minutes left, anything out there of interest?
I just want to sleep. That five hour energy drink did its job but I must go to sleep.
I’ll leave you with this.
@Snir_Geuli: This £42.5m signing is from money we generated.
That is how it should be. No classier club than Arsenal.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are in last-minute talks over a deal for Juan Mata.
H2H,
here is the video bit: http://www.as.com/futbol/video/aficion-grita-ozil-vende-florentino/20130902dasdasftb_31/Ves#
🙂
Time to open a bottle of wine while watching a few youtube videos of our new signing.
cheers, bearded.
Well done Snir. Good to have you back.
*massive round of applause*
Turkish Delight! It’s been years since I’ve refreshed Arsenal.com so many times. C’mon you rip roaring Gunners!!!
Anyone moaning right now is a bellend
Where the fuck is Tabs, by the way?
Brilliant signing!
Like it N7; We got Mesut Ozil… We got Mesut Ozil…
Fantastic signing! A new era commences 🙂
Sleep tight Snir, well done as usual. The crowd roars…..
Luv it, Tully.
When you think what RM paid for Bale, we got a bargain buy 🙂
Damn snir.
Wheewww!!!!!!
Fantastic efforts there Snir and Lurky….
Ozil N11. Spot on H2H
Cheers Snir.
dkgooner, spot on, we paid less than half for a player that is just as good as Spunkey face.
May not be over yet there’s still half a chance of that elusive striker according to reports,
Oh and rumours doing the rounds are that Mert presented Ozil with an Arsenal shirt at the German hotel 🙂 Good lad !
@776 – N7, you are moaning about moaning so are you a bellend? 😉
It has been the greatest and most exciting day since we signed Walcott. That was a mental few days of hype and nothing has come close since.
Anyone knows who did United signed this summer?
It is easy…..
11 is free but so is 23 (his number at RM).
Unfortunately, it looks like 52 isn’t.
N7,
Tabs said yesterday he would be keeping well out of the way. He has.
Robin van Persie,
Didn’t like our ambition, Robin ? 🙂
Gotta love the ‘Fly Emirates’ shirt Bale is wearing in that vid, Tully. Bet he loves that!
Oskar
Gedo@788 – Better by far.
Cynic @ 790
You know it big man!
Bang !
His Facebook page has all posts in four languages.
Maybe it took RVP leaving to push us into unchartered territory…..
Come on Arsenal!!!
I am sure the so called german football expert must be a bitter spud, the shite he has said about us signing Ozil, then comments abouts Poldi and Per.
O
8 minutes. where the hell is Snir when you need him? asleep? oh. 😉
Missed 🙁
Snir you were awesome today.
Big ups to you man.
Go get some rest.
You sure deserve it.
Real M have been taken to the financial cleaners by North London, imo.
Oskar
I jinxed it
Sky Sports are reporting that Everton have finally agreed a fee for Wigan’s James McCarthy. That is Fellaini’s way out
Heh Trev @793.
“Fly Emirates” shirts.
Emirates sponsor:
England – us
France – PSG
Spain – RM
Italy – AC Milan
Greece – Olympiacos
Germany – Hamburg
Source: http://www.emirates.com/english/about/emirates-sponsorships/football/football.aspx
hold up, might not be over yet….
Are we doing anything else??????
Hahaha Man United fan reaction to their lack of transfer dealings
“Oh God! Oh Jesus Christ!!!”
It’s an Edward Woodward/Wicker Man joke and I love it.
I love this.
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2892/transfer-zone/2013/09/02/4233160/revealed-how-arsenal-real-madrid-outwitted-tottenham-to-seal
Can’t believe we wouldn’t be able to sign someone else, even on loan.
No time to sleep Snir, keep pumping it out…..
so fucking giddy…as Snir, godd of tdd said, we paid for or out of our own fucking money. another stone in the growing stairway back to the pinnacle of football.
time for the tide of plastics to rise again.
can I just say: cantstopsmiling? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
And to all of those moaners who said Arsene should just pay the money, ManUre have also refused to pay for a player they felt was over valued (Herrera).
Just look at all the player’s tweets. They’re over the moon.
What a signing.
Has an English club ever signed a better player than Ozil? I don’t mean “went on to be better”, I mean at the time of signature. Van Persie maybe? Beyond that I’m struggling
There’s no more business going on…. Move along folks…. Nothing to see here… 🙂
Arguably one of the top ten players on the planet.
“Mesut Ozil”
Please, this is Cent’s girlfriend, who is the owner of the above name and can he explain why my boyfriend has passed out?
Jack Wilshere
“Signing of the summer! Easily! Fantastic player, plays the ‘Arsenal way’. Welcome Mesut Ozil, absolutely buzzing!”
WINDOW’S CLOSED.
N7, Aguero,.
Tabs’s internet is broken today N7.
Now it’s official I can finally acknowledge what a bloody epic signing Özil is. And as Snir points out, all our own money. No criminal ‘benefactor’. No crippling loans or other finance deals. Magic.
Was just reflecting earlier, thinking back to the amazing atmosphere at the stadium yesterday, that THIS is what they were working towards all those years ago.
THAT is what being a genuine visionary is all about. Massive round of applause to the club for getting us this far. Can only be more and better in the future.
Admit that yesterday I wasn’t looking forward to the long trip to the NE on the 14th, but frankly cannot bloody WAIT for that Sunderland game now 🙂
Snir @ 812.
That is fucking epic.
Ive said if before. Ill say it again.
Arsene Wenger. Theres only ONE Arsene Wenger.
For once, I actually enjoyed clicking on a goal.com article!!!
Did United signed anyone yet?
Fabregas maybe? Fellaini? No? Are you sure? Not even Herrera, huh?
N7@818, um, Bergkamp?
i’m with homer. epic, and a with the nld result and bale bailing those scum are going to be reeling.
I know Im considered the epitome of negativity but cnat be too disappointed.
If only Jose wasnt such a fucking cunt. We tried.
Anyways, Im a little worried that we only have Sanogo / Akpom / Bendtner as backup for Giroud.
I hope Arsene can get Nik’s head sorted out. I think he is a decent player if he works hard.
But yea, it could have been a perfect window if he had got 1 more striker.. but it is – what it is.
Great link Snir.
Up yours Levy – we didn’t even need him to beat your bunch of losers.
Lots of great posters today, but huge kudos and thanks to Snir!
Woohooooo what a signature to have! He is a magician on the ball, can’t wait to see him in the red and white!
Sajit,
“The epitome of negativity” thinks Bendtner is a decent player ???
Ox tweet 🙂
@Alex_OxChambo Ze Germans will get nosier ! lol
I hope Emirates gives Nik another chance. Even the worst of us deserve a second chance in life. :-)/
Of course, he needs to get his head sorted out first.
Carlton Cole is without a club.
Just saying.
Hope we don’t hear the song “Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie! Oi! Oi! Oi!” 🙁
If the goal.com article is true (a) it would be a first, and (b) why aren’t those pictures that were allegedly taken in his visit to London up on the AFC website, which has a gallery of pictures of him in the German shirt?
Just asking.
Bergkamp it probably has to be. Maybe Chelsea and Gullit, but he was past it by then.
Seriously though – is anyone else having problems taking this in? Not sure I’ll believe it until he’s in the shirt.
Wenger clearly a massive reason he signed. Hang your heads those who wanted him gone.
i think he’s more than £7 million better than andy carroll, özil.
@Trev,
I think im clutching at straws but ill always get behind whichever player who tries his heart out for the Red and White.
Sajit: “Bendtner” + “work hard” can’t appear in the same sentence.
I think with Flamini, we can play 2 more attack minded midfielders infront of him if we want… We really do have an embarrassment of riches in midfield.
sajit, he has to *pull* his head out first, before he can sort it.
N7: “Wenger clearly a massive reason he signed.”
Nah, it was clearly Per’s tackle on Chadli that swung it.
Yeah scruz, or to put it in another light, Spuds paid 30 mil for Lamela (who is a player I have never seen playing and never heard of until yesterday).
As said above, compared to what RM paid for Bale, 42 mil for Özil is freaking steal, brilliant brilliant signing.
Thanks for the link @812 Snir.
Must say though that it doesn’t seem very probable though.
Thanks for the compliments fellas, but N7 and Lurky deserve the same.
And Dr C who’s been whatsapping with me all summer, love you man.
One last thing.
@gunnerblog: Ozil: “When talking with Arsene Wenger I immediately felt what I had missed: 100% faith in me.”
@Forever_RedArmy: Özil “after speaking to Arsène Wenger I instantly felt loved. I want to repay the faith shown in me by him, by winning trophies.”
One Arsene Wenger.
Moving in for a top top striker in January anyone?
Ha! Everton screwed ManU for an extra £4.5m for Fellaini.
Has ‘Arry done yet another deal for Krancjar? Is he his fucking agent?
Looks like Wiggy gone to Manure for 27mill.
Yep, H2H, I agree. The story is made up and naive . Goal.com’s usual bullshit.
That makes 6 players from Germany, I think:
BFG, Podolski, Özil, Gnabry, Eisfeld and Zelalem
Özil will hopefully be the one to really start the ball rolling. Hopefully this will be the one that really opens people’s eyes.
Roll on the winter window…
Where you getting that from @H2H.. BBC says nothing about Fellani..
They say they got RM LB though.. Like i give a damn
Bigger picture here: Ozil very clear he joined because of Arsene.
Wenger is going to be offered (and sign) da ting.
Sajit; SSN saying Fellaini to ManU for £27.5m…. Not confirmed yet tho.
According to reports, Fábio Coentrão’s proposed loan deal to Manchester United has been confirmed.
Sp, I jinxed it, as usual. Two players after the deadline for United.
We have the biggest signing this summer, but Everton with amazingly good signings too.
Amen Snir my man.
One Arsene Wenger. Faith renewed.
The social media world has got extremely excited by Arsenal’s record transfer deal. Mesut Ozil has now been mentioned on Twitter over 3 million times today. Gareth Bale, in comparison, has been mentioned just over 800,000 times.
———————–
Ha!
Sajit.
It was just on BBC (TV).
Honestly, dont think Fellani is an improvement over what they already have. A bit of a face-saver as I see it.
Chelsea and Spurs are as I see are title contenders.
Now before you laugh at Spurs – just think how long it took Giroud to get going.
Lamella, Paulinho, Eriksen are all quality and once the gel in, watch out.
Get a striker in Jan and we can compete for silverware.
Thanks Snir, you put a really amazing performance today. Someday you may replace that Dick Law fella..
Just a thought:
Transfer windows were introduced to make football clubs more stable ….
Oh well.
Steve,
it is definetly a signing of intent and finaly shows the world that we mean business. It will be a lot easier to attract other big names with players of his calibre in our ranks.
Shame we couldn’t get a big name in early on in the window, it would of made for a much more pleasant summer.
*Not being a bitch, just saying like.
Fook me, I’m shagged out…. G’night all!
Happy days! Thank fuck thats over!! 🙂
Up the Arse!

H2H – I’ll say this about Veysey, he’s usually utter shite but was spot on today on everything.
Plus, all the regular people on twitter that know stuff talked about a player being at Colney on Friday but wouldn’t say names.
Spurs are cunts Sajit, plain and simple.
@H2H Dont disagree.. btu they have a great squad (whcih will of course need time to gel)
But yea they are cunts. so fuck em.
Thoguhts on Fellani to Utd?
Well done Snir, Lurky and N7 for twitter updates ( sorting out the worthwhile ones from the trash). Much more on the ball than SSN and without their massive irritation factor.
Mesut’s name means ‘happy’ in Turkish. Couldn’t be happier!
Lol
http://twitter.com/SamodSoremekun/status/374649389295624192/photo/1
SZcZesney, CaZorla, ÖZil and one for the future – Zelalem. You read it here first, it’s all about the Z’s.
Speaking of which I’m off. Night all.
COYG
Arsène Knows
Also BBC saying Mata ot PSG.. JM is a fuckign cunt.. ANd it weakens Chavs.
Hope it happens
Where are the photos in the Arsenal kit then?
Surely we’d want to parade our most expensive ever shiny new toy in the glorious red and white and not that poohy sp*rs like white German strip?
TBH I have no idea who is right or wrong, but keeping a story like that secret seems to me highly unlikely in the current social media climate.
Heh @875
What Uply says @ 873. Well done Snir, Lurky and N7. Great scouring. Beat the Beeb hands down.
They MUST get the Ö in Özil on the shirts. Otherwise it will look wrong. And here I wanted the shirt done tonight…
Nothing will take my smile away for atleast 4 weeks.
I just arrived in Hong Kong from a 14 hour flight, I couldn’t wait to see if we ended up signing Ozil. And the feeling right now is epic, absolutely buzzing!! Definitely a signing of Bergkamp proportions!
An interlull to enjoy our NLD win and Ozil’s signing (did I mention a certain Welshman leaving that lot down the road?), surely a couple week’s break from League football never felt this good!
The Arsenal have proven we mean business in the transfer market.
Is there anything better than waking up to see Ozil on Arsenal.com?
If so, I don’t want to know!
I’m so happy I want to compose and sing an Arsenal song. If only I had some musical talent….
Anyway, I think this signing is or may prove to be as significant as Dennis Bergkamp.
Now to backread and see what else I missed in the bar during the night.
UTA
This is too funny.
@OliPriceBates: Reports in Spain claim three men dressed in black suits and claiming to be United “representatives” spent an hour at the La Liga offices
Heh Snir @875. Wheels within wheels.
Mind you I think we are still short in terms of our squad depth. Particularly in the goalscoring department.
Just heard the Palace chairman say that a deal for the world`s greatest was in place until the Podolski injury put the kybosh on it. Had we managed to sign a striker today (eg Demba Ba on loan) Bendtner would have gone. Expect him to be on the bench for the West Brom game boys.
Singularly, the most important signing since Bergkamp and one that announces our arrival on the stage of becoming a European superclub.
I will NEVER understand how RM could loose a player of Ozils ability to make room for someone like Bale. He is twice the talent and they sold him for half the money…!
But then that’s Wenger for you.
Wonder how the AST feel now about recommending that we defer a new deal for Wenger until after the window?
Wonder how possible this deal would have been without him?
Just ask Moyesy who’s forked out 27m for a DCM that you could never describe as world class!
Pity we missed out on a striker. But the day you sign a talent of this magnitude is something that should be celebrated in all the goonerdom.
Congrats Porco on the new arrival. A day when Ozil was signed and Heaney was buried.
As far as I know, Park, Bendtner and Frimpong all own black suits.
only if he is in top fitness, bbum. lazy bastard, I doubt it.
Heh Toby.
Imagine fellas, just imagine our attacking potential…
Flamini and Arteta – muscles, brain, experience.
Ramsey and Wilshere – youth, strength, engine.
Santi, Rosicky and Ozil- creativity, shooting, killer passes
Walcott and Chambo- pace and directness.
Giroud- presence, headers, balance
Poldi- finisher
Add to that Zelalem, Gnabry, Diaby, Chuba, Sanogo.
If we avoid injuries, we might achieve something this year.
Bendtner said he would never play for Arsenal again.
I hope he was right.
What a place this is. Oozing class left right and centre.
Thanks so much all for the kind wishes, I’ve just had the most mental day of my life which has ended in the best way on so many fronts. Little Rossette waited till the end of the window to fall asleep, and the Rosso Management has grabbed the best-earned z’s ever.
And now I will shut up about babies as I’m sure it’s tiresome for the bachelors in the establishment.
MESUT ÖZIL!!!!! Wenger, I take it all back – that’s a masterstroke right there, the best signing in the Prem in quite some time…cannot WAIT to see him in the hallowed red and white.
And can I just add: Levy, you petty little small-timer! If the story’s true about him trying to scupper our plans by holding onto the Missing Link a bit longer, that is really rather pathetic. Snide tactic from a small club who still have a way to go before they can consider themselves on our level. To do that they’d need to spend something like £100 millio….oh.
Looks like money can’t buy you, er, anything if you’re the Spuds!
By the time B52 reaches peak fitness, the January window will be open and Palace can have him.
Has Bendtner ever played for Arsenal????
Really glad to have Özil. I just so wish we had pushed the Higuain deal through. It would have been fantastic to have both at the club.
Can anyone tell me about the keeper we have signed?? Not sure what that is about? Are we expecting him to be the new number one? Never heard if him and no nothing about him.
Snir. Great link above re the deal.
Keepy uppy and a hopeful punt
I thought about that we have one recognizable striker at the moment.
It is not enough I know.
BUT
I remember RVP being our only used striker for about two years, and no one had any complaints about it.
My point. If we manage to distance Giroud from injuries, having the creativity of Cazorla, Ozil and Rosicky behind him, we might have this year PL’s best striker at the club.
BAM! Congratulations Porco! Dedicating this goal to your new signing!
Seems there’s been quite a bit of other managers doing whatever it takes not to do business with AW this window, which smacks very strongly of fear.
Sajit: As for Eriksen, he looks good in the Dutch league but even the Danish manager, Morten Olsen, interviewed on TV Sunday night, said he would have to adapt to the much higher tempo of the PL – he won’t have so much time on the ball.
I won’t say he can’t do it, but quite a way to go, as well as blending with his new team mates.
Nowhere near the level of Özil.
And then, and I hope I’m not Tabsing this now, two things:
Steve T, a tad harsh on Bendts. He got the most goals out of all players 21 years or younger in the PL a few years back, he scored a few good ones against the Spuds and he hasn’t cost us that much (until he got the raise and went shit). Point being, he gave me a few good memories, he has most definitely played for us. Sadly he’s absolutely mental.
Lurky, we did complain about it. That’s not to say it didn’t go well enough, and that it will go to shit now. I feel we are a bit thin, but as I’ve been saying all evening, I think we can make do with the attacking players we’ve got, at least until the january window when we better know how Sanogo is playing or if any of the academy player has made the step up.
Meh
DEAL DONE: Marouane Fellaini has joined Manchester United in a £27.5m deal from Everton. (Source: http://evertonfc.com )
Well in Toby and cheers for the dedication pal!
Porco – congrats.
Lurky – we will achieve something this year. PL champions. The PL is there for the taking.
As for what happens if Giroud is injured – we can put Santi at RW, Theo up front with Gibbs at LW. He grew up as a LW and has great technique. Always beats his man.
We can make do until January when we’ll sign a top striker 🙂
@901
My sentiments exactly. The Ozil master stroke may just have excercabated this strange development. Wonder how top teams would set out their stalls against us in the coming weeks.
Dk – you could see Capoue and Paulinho struggle to adapt to the pace yesterday. Got caught out dithering on the ball numerous times.
It won’t happen to Ozil as he’s certainly one of the 10 best players in the game.
And also, all those players Spuds bought – Capoue, Eriksen, Lamela, Chadli, Soldado – don’t you think AW could have picked any of them up if he thought they were good enough?
But they weren’t so they went to the reserve team up the road.
The only one who might have been a contender is Paulinho.
thomas – you forgot Cazorla, Monreal, Rosicky, Podolski and Vermalaen.
Snir, I thought you were exhausted and sleeping already 🙂
Of course we will win the PL. This is our year. We have all the ingredients
Well-rehearsed and calm defenders.
Combative and creative midfielders.
Strong and pacy attackers.
Wish we could clear the deadwood (MNB) out of here too.
@892, good points regarding the squad – senior quality and youthful talent. The deadwood all but removed. Ozil’s signing the semininal moment all the haters never wanted! Would’ve liked Ba or a similar target-man as back up for OG but we’ll see if TGSTEL can put up or shut up once and for all with the opportunity that he’s been given, yet again! Don’t forget Sanogo’s in the mix! In Arsene I trust, as does Ozil! COYBG!
Good call Dk. Clearly had the balls to keep his powder dry for the Real sell off that he knew was bound to happen. Probably didn’t know exactly who he would get but knew he could probably get at least one quality attacking signing. As Fergie said last year, one hell of a good poker player.
Goodnight all.
Congrats porco.
Congrats Arsene.
And excellent call H2H @915.
Oh Thomas. You doubter. Go lick a window and grow cojones.
@918
The sun is slowly rising, time to get back to the cave.
If there is a more stupid cunt on the internet than me, well I haven’t seen him.
I truly am a special, special cunt with a bit of a psychological problem.
Right, best chant of the night this far: “Ö Zil to the Arsenal, Ö Zil to the Arsenal”
There should be a ‘like’ button for that one Toby 🙂 heh
i would like to thanks Sp*rs too who make this day a day to remember. By domino effect they have actually help us to sign a real world class player
~we sell gervinho to Roma,
~Roma sell Lamela to spud
~They sell the chimp to Real
~Real sell us Ozil.
MNB, you are such a tool. Arsenal could win 5 titles, go unbeaten for that period, win 5 Champions Leagues, have a celebration at the ground with the club laying on free beer and crisps; and you would fucking moan that they had run out of cheese and onion!!!!
Get something important in your life before it’s too late.
Steve T, He’s practically begging for help. Sigh. Know this will be edited out. ‘Thomas’, 1) Stick with one name 2) Just be yourself (no attention getting stuff) 3) Holic will be the only one to know who you are, you can have a fresh start! 4) Be nice to yourself and everyone else. 5) Good luck son.
Lol
http://havearsenalspentanymoneyyet.com/
So we will have to make amends with a backup for Giroud. Obviously, Theo can spot start in certain matches but I really do hope Bendtner gets the wheels turning upstairs as I think he did well for us when he played up top. Need him to hold the ball up, score with the noggin, etc. Just don’t play him on the wing…which is where all of the mudslinging started, I believe.
The guy has no other options and fading chances for the national team….time for him to grow-up and keep his pants up.
Let’s hope are boys don’t get knackered during the break.
I should leave town for a few days more often. It seems to make everybody happy. 🙂
A win over Tottenham and a signing of the stature of Ozil. Who’s unhappy now. All the naysayers, undoubtedly, but please count me out..
Massive massive effort from all at the bar today – , Snir MOTM but excellent work from the whole team who displayed exceptional mental strength and spirit, without the hand-brake being applied at any stage.
A drink to you Mr Rosso, soon to be known only as DAD, congratulations on your greatest gift.
A striker- but we have Auntie Ethel..
We actually got Ozil.
Hey all, thrilled with our signing. Exciting times await! Giroud and center backs need to stay fit though. If so, we are solid gold. A new striker in January (Lewandowski?) and we have world beating squad. Up the Gunners. Thanks for pulling the trigger, Wenger.
pik, I’d bite off your left hand for that. just saying.
lol, lloydie. 😀
Many happy angles to consider here, and don’t we deserve it? One is, that in pledging his future to us Özil has shown faith in the manager and the club, in a way that inspires faith in the club’s supporters (whose faith, let’s be honest, may have wavered in recent years), as well as in the public more generally. A much needed shot in the arm. And that’s really why we love him so much already, isn’t it. Because he such a gifted player, of course, but also because he’s demonstrated a belief in our manager and our club. As Snir quoted @850, “After speaking to Arsène Wenger I instantly felt loved. I want to repay the faith shown in me by him, by winning trophies.”
God it feels good.
And on a non-Arsenal-related note: Joe @888, you mention Seamus Heaney…nicely done. I have been gutted about that all weekend. “Memory eternal” for a truly great man.
Figures. Only in an Arsenal bar would someone mention the passing of a poet. Always class 🙂
Sajit … as back-up to OG we have Poldi and Theo, both of whom actually prefer to play up front. And neither would be missed in midfield where we have Santi, Jack, TR7, Mikel, Ox, Rambo and now MO fighting for 4 positions. And that’s without mentioning Gnabry, Zelalem, Eisfeld etc etc of the next generation all knocking on the door.
One thing we’re not short of is MFs. Defence otoh is still a bit skinny if more than one gets injured at a time. I’m still fingers crossed for a late arrival to be announced in the morning (London time). Maybe even a spare striker as well. Say Williams and Michu from the swans?
Oskar
Fantastic dinner tonight mates. Management roasted a duck…I know, right…you just can’t make this stuff up. She asked why I was smiling so at dinner. I can’t remember exactly what I said, something about a great dinner, I dunno.
But Arsene knows. He always knows. Long may he reign…my humble apologies, good sir.
Hell, I might just go and buy that woman a car tomorrow.
BMBD (btw, I like what you’re doing there Baff)
RIP Seamus Heaney. Years ago I was transfixed listening to him reading his translation of the epic poem Beowulf. Never has the Irish accent sounded so mellifluous, the Dennis Bergkamp of poetry with a hint of Liam Brady.
And died only three years older than me! 🙁
Oskar
What a day it has been so far! The air seems sweeter, the sun seems brighter and everything seems to have a glow around it.
The deafening silence of the doubters, naysayers and mudslingers is astounding and welcome at the same time. We have brought in a class player in his prime who will undoubtedly add to our squad and has the potential to help push us on to greater things. Anyone saying otherwise most probably has bats in their belfry, or is a LWC.
Welcome to the Arsenal starting lineup Nicklas Bendtner. 8)
Seriously though, I know it’s been said a million times already but what a great signing we actually managed to pull off with Özil. And all with money we accumulated not with an injection from the owners. Not only that, unlike the LWCs, we have some funds left over that we can use in January to get a striker. I wish we could have brought in one in this window but I think that if we share the goals around the park we shouldn’t be deprived too much.
After having backread, another shout-out for Snir Sports News for the relentless TDD coverage last night and Pangloss, congratulations on the birth of your new gooner princess!
Finally, having served its purpose, Zen mode is over for me now.
I’m now in the mood to unleash Teutonic Terror over the Premier League tundra.
As such, from now on, I shall be known as Cannöns of Rhetörik.
UTA
Ack, I almost forgot. I would also like to wish Capoue a speedy recovery. Unfortunate accident that. Its never good to see players suffer serious injuries like that.
Gomenasai!
Pangloss=Porco Rosso!!
Apologies 🙂
I found this video compilation of the new guy as well. I hope it hasn’t been posted before!
http://redlondon.net/2013/09/02/video-every-ozil-goal-and-assist-for-madrid-in-past-three-years/
Alright, back to work now 🙂
P.S. What do you think will happen to Cabaye after his Toon strike?
One last one –
Elsewhere, Mirror Sport can reveal Arsenal were left furious after being kept waiting by Chelsea on a season-long loan deal for Demba Ba – only for Jose Mourinho to pull the plug at the last minute.
Mourinho strung the Gunners along on Ba until it was too late to sign another striker, which leaves Wenger desperately short of cover for Olivier Giroud up front.
The Chelsea boss clearly sees Arsenal as genuine title rivals and did not want to do business with them, even though he was happy to loan Victor Moses to Liverpool earlier in the day.
Jose you stupid cunt, we’ll still trash you and finish above you.
To say I am cock- a-hoop would be a massive understatement! Ozil is simply the best signing since Bergkamp. I was one of those calling for investment, and this one ticks all the boxes. Agree with Oskar that we have Theo and Poldi as back up strickers if injury should befall The Handsome One. Flamini signing may also prove to be a masterstroke.
Ozil may also prove to be the kick start required to attract other top class players down the line. not a day for I-told -you -so’s on either side. Lets bask in the fact that we have just signed one of the worlds best players.
Just keep the boy away from Shawcross.
Of the four fabulous German players we were linked with, Ozil would have bee the one I would have chosen. Over the moon!
Oskar, a quiet whiskey for you and me in a corner, and for anyone else who remembers Heaney. Cheers.
Scruz, I’d offer it myself! Course, easy wager as that will never happen. 🙁 Oskar, a toast to seamus, brilliant brilliant writer.
In other transfer business, according to the BBC, our dear friend and holic Gedo will be joining Steve Bruce and the Tigers.
Best of luck mate! Heh 🙂
Gedo [Al Ahly – Hull] Loan
Crap, I’m going to get relegated!….hopefully not from this bar! Kind of cool to see someone else with the same name/nickname I’ve had since 1980….even if they are playing for Hull.
lol, pik. you, me, and norcal should get a morning game at maggie mcgarry’s after the January window, and i’ll buy you a drink either way 🙂
Holy coincidences eh?
Imagine how much fun you could have kicking Tom Hundredtone and Jake Livealiitlemore in training though! Seeing as impostors are everywhere this summer you should show up for practice with printouts of your drinks as a form of identification…
Could get a free shirt at least!
Did it really happen? Have we really made another signing of the calibre and significance of Denis Bergkamp?
Well, I’ve just checked both the .con and the Beeb and it seems that it did, and we have. Excellent!!
Got a bit of a shock while knirding when I read CoR’s@936 above. Maybe the besy plea yet for the return of Oxon and Camberwell.
Have a great day all you home-based Gooners and a similarly great evening/night all of you in the diaspora.
CÖYG
GOOD morning Holic and Holics.
Welcome to the Arsenal renaissance.
Strap yourselves in. This is going to be one hell of a ride.
It was funny how Ba’s agent was quick to distance his client (within 5 minutes in fact), from a transfer to the spuds last night, by stating that his clients preference was to move to a champions league club. Lol!
🙂
I’m chuffed we got that keeper on a loan.
As for the striker, seems like clubs started taking the piss.
Time for the fringe boys to chip in.
TGSTEL remains with us and prepares to become our saviour as soon as he can begin training again and sort out his social life.
We did our best. Dropped him off at the Palace training ground in a sack but Ian Holloway wouldn’t buy a man with no trousers on and green pants.
The Humber Bridge drop didn’t work as I got vertigo and we were refused delivery at Cardiff, Southampton and QPR. Even ‘Arry wouldn’t do a deal –on deadline night we thought that was nailed on but we were just about to hand him over when we got summoned back because Demba Ba wasn’t coming So we had to dump him back at Shenley.
Wenger said to leave him in the skip and they’d sort him out in the morning.
TGSTEL says he feels he’s going to be even greater than he thought he was and there are better nightclubs in North London anyway.
Could be the signing of the summer .
Oh one thing I ask of fellow Gooners is that we don’t start asking for ridiculous over priced players to come over. Ozil was a tactical transfer, who was worth the bacon. Ba could have been too. Let’s just let the boss track down the guys and let’s all chip in with a few quid.
Arsenal, the prem club of the future!
Trust me!
Morning.
What Bath said. This has to be the beginning.
‘Kin hell – somehow missed Porco Rosso’s big news last night.
Well played old son, the best new signing of the whole summer. Enjoy it – life’s greatest adventure.
What Steve said about what Bath said.
What N7 said about what Steve said about what Bath said.
Özil.
Just wanted to write the word again.
Well, happy as I am with Ozil, i’ve still got an annoyed feeling with the way we did transfer business – or rather the lack of it – over the summer.
I suppose that’ll pass. Like letting your missus off for buying crap i suppose.
1000 posts coming up? Wow… 😀
1000 posts? Small sum. Just 857 more than a certain 24-year old’s number of career assists.
Yes, the summer was frustrating but if anyone told me in May we are going to sign Özil on TDD I would laugh hysterically and do not believe it for one second.
I still have hard time wrapping my head around the fact that Madrid let him go. Brilliant brilliant player coming to his best years, with crapload of international experience, winning mentality etc.
Instead of him they acquired hugely overpriced Bale. Dont get me wrong, he is great player too but nowhere near the level Ronaldo was when he was going from ManU to Real for same amount of stupid money.
But what the hell, we are the Arsenal, we are the best, we are the Arsenal so fuck the rest. Madrids loss, our gain, not even mentioning LWCs lol.
Morning all.
Great night – worth waiting up for – wouldn’t have been able to sleep anyhow.
The signing of Özil is not just the addition of a truly great player to the squad, it’s also a fantastic statement of intent which will change the perception of other players towards the club. Arsenal has gone from a selling club to a buying club in one fell swoop. More will follow.
Yes, it would have been nice to get a classy striker as well, but anyone who is still discontent this morning will always be discontent – sad really.
I say this without any wish to upset anyone, but I would sign Carlton Cole this morning. He’s a free agent and we need a body. Preferably one that can move. And he can. Just.
It would take the pressure off Giroud anyway and give us someone to play in the cup while Podolski is getting fit.
I think it’s the real price we pay for “only” finishing fourth. I doubt whether anyone – club or players – really wants to commit until they know wheter we’re playing in the CL proper.
It will be interesting to see whether the “pundits” come to any consensus over who’s most likely to drop out of the top 4 this season. And who might replace them come to that.
CO¨YG
Ööps.
CÖYG
For the first time in many years, I see the light at the end of the tunnel today. Come on You Gunners !!!!!!
Re: back up striker, I’d like to see Sanogo given a chance. We’ve seen, what 30 minutes from him in total?
Assuming he can stay fit (and I think that is an assumption given our luck and his career to date), I think he can do a job if anything happens to the HFB.
We’ll have – what – 8 weeks to wait for Poldi after the interlull? So that’s probably about 10-11 games (I’ve not checked) in which we need Giroud to stay fit. Even if Sanogo only has to fill in for a quarter of them that’s still only 3 games. We also have Akpom, who looked OK in the summer.
Would have liked a back up striker, but the fact is that once Podolski is back we won’t really need one. What we need is a world class striker, and we’ll get that either in January or next summer.
Failing the above, Cole on a free isn’t the worst shout, although I’ve reservations about whether he could fit into our system – suspect feet.
God, what a strange feeling. I honestly can’t take it in that this has really happened.
Are we thinking Marseille for the home debut?
could we plat 4-4-2 if Giroud injuired?
Wilshere, Ramsey, carzola, ozil (sub : arteta, flamini, TR7)
theo, poldi
The squad is nöw very ströng imhö, when all are available.
3 good goalkeepers – Chezzer was alternately solid and brilliant on Sunday.
4 great full backs – the corporal has really shown his mettle the last two games – was under a lot of pressure but it didn’t take him long to get the measure of Chadli and Rose. Hopefully Gibbs’s run of injuries is now behind him. Plus we have Flamini who can fill in on both sides in an emergency.
Only 3 experienced CBs (all internationals) but Bac has shown he can cover there if needs be.
Midfield is just fantastic – Arteta, Flamini, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky, Özil, Cazorla, Chamberlain, Diaby (still praying for him), Ryo (time will tell) – when you compare that with those up the road, the difference in quality is laughable.
Strikers – Giroud, Podolski, Walcott – Sanogo’s quality at this level is unknown, ditto Akpom (who’s still very young). Chamberlain can also cover here but I’d be happier with a quality signing in January, if there’s anyone available (unlikely).
Suddenly, Arsene’s claims about being title challengers don’t look so far fetched – Maureen obviously thinks so, not letting us have Ba.
Confidence is key in football and that will be sky high after Sunday and Monday.
Can’t wait for the CL matches – we will certainly win the group.
CÖYG
Top top signing! Still would have liked Demba Ba, but I realize Jose fucked us on that one.
It’s Ok, I think Poldi can do a job as centre forward
We fucked ourselves on the striker really. We had months to get one and then decided to rely on Chelsea doing us a favour after we’d signed a guy Mourinho rates? Never going to happen, that.
Check out some of his assists
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Oqy2VDtUSo
Please Göd – nö injuries fröm the interlull.
For me, the big picture is the main thing.
I don’t need us to challenge for the title this season. I need us to show that we will properly challenge for the title in the next couple of years.
This signing goes a really long way towards doing that, and it confirms that the whole stadium project was legit and was not part of some elaborate smokescreen to line the pockets of the board while screwing the fans.
Huge moment for the club.
Walcott is going to get a hatful with the delivery Özil can produce.
What N7@975 said.
What Chezzer said on AFC website:
“It doesn’t matter who we play against at the moment, because we are so confident we will take on anyone.”
Hearing Vermaelen back within two premier league games, and Arteta within a month.
Squad should start looking a lot deeper pretty quickly.
What N7 said, Still cannot beleive weve brought the second most expensive footballer to the league its a huge huge statement and means for the first time in a long time we can look forward rather than backwards bring on the next 3 months and then the winter window 🙂
So B52 is still in the squad, despite ttg’s sterling and hilarious efforts (@952). He’s now going to have to do some serious work – they won’t pay him for swanning around the Copenhagen clubs. He could well contribute to a CC run if he gets his head and arse in gear – a big “if” I know (that’s why I didn’t include him in my squad summary @970).
Being fycked up by Maureen, where did that came from.
Not long ago, 10 days or so, regarding Rooney saga, he was the one who said that he doesn’t understand how the clubs from the same league refuse to sell to each other. Yesterday he did exactly the same thing, refusing to strength a team within the league.
However, what new have we learned of Maureen yesterday? That he is a hypocrite, two-faced, insincere shyt? We all knew that. And if anyone had any doubts, well, there is your proof.
What I think we learned, and this is important, is that he is afraid of Arsenal. He considers us as a title rival, something that many of our own fans doesn’t do.
I can only hope, that the thing he so miserable did to us yesterday is going to backfire on him. Someway, somewhere, somehow. Maybe it will be in a strangest way, allowing Bendtner to do a 08-09 Flamini, and discovers his form, scoring goals for fun this year.
Maybe the destiny will find even more bizzarre way, I don’t know.
What I know is that he is going to regret it. The balance is the basic principle of the Universe.
Bad news.
Podolski out for at least three months. Probably will not play in 2013 anymore says DFB Doc Müller-Wohlfahrt, the one who did the Ozil medical.
Ozil is a brilliant signing the best we could have hoped for in-light of how the rest of the summer went.
If the club now really mean it (& I so wish for us the fans they do), the playing side need to hold this form until the Jan window, then AW & the management team need to go again with another TWO BIG signings @ least to give us that boost for the 2nd part of the season.
Come on Arsenal Management team make me fall back in love with you all over again please….
No idea if Mourinho sees us as genuine title rivals, but he is most certainly a world class bellend who loathes Wenger and likes playing little games. We shouldn’t have dealt with him on principle.
As for the universe taking its revenge on him, suspect it already has; in Guardiola he’s met an adversary who he can’t drag down to his level and who has run rings round him at virtually every meeting, and he also didn’t get the Utd job, despite all the ass-kissing.
He’s gone crawling back to Chelsea after flubbing the Madrid role.
Fcuk him and his anti-football. Fcuk him and his petty theatrics.
Have we……………..?
YES we have.
Yep first passing shot from Mourinho, how long do we think before the honeymoon period is over & it gets really grimy all over again @ Chelsea?
Agree with you N7, some of his antics have made me in the past want to go home n shower ASAP….
Onwards towards the dectuple ton!
One last time, thanks again people for your words of well-wishing, I really appreciate the gesture, especially on a day with so much major football history being made.
Many, many good points have been extremely well made above, not least the idea that the signing of the boggle-eyed wizard should pave the way for more grade A signings.
…oh yeh, and you have to hand it to Wenger. He played an absolute blinder!
If classy players like MO are drawn to the red and white by the prospect of working with AW, it just goes to show that it really is only the mindless gold-diggers who gravitate to the resource-raping oil-funded clubs.
I’m just so…Mesut today.*

A bit premature that, Prof. 🙂
Where’s ‘holic? Waiting until there are 1,000 drinks on this one or recovering from the 1,000 he imbibed after 11 last night?
I laughed out loud three or four times watching this Ozil highlights reel.

Jesus – what a player.
I was just thinking, remember those people who wished we would lose to Fenerbache so that we would drop out of the Champions League, making the club sack Arsene, and in result we would get a new manager who would sign awesome players and take us to the promised land?
I wonder if those people think that we would’ve signed Özil if that had happened…

OOPS! It must be all the top, top, top, super, exceptional quality excitement 😉
I also noticed that onlinemoaner.com is down.
Maybe all the negative nancies over there couldn’t comprehend what just happened and crashed the site attempting to put a negative spin on current events?
CoR tickles it towards the goal line…
Rumours about Ciprian Marica, free agent.
I remember him as a Stuttgart player back in years, when M. Gomez was there too. He is not a big name at all,but I remember him being quite dangerous and naturally talented attacker. Haven’t heard anything about him since then, but if he is available I would take him.

Well in Lurky!
That was easy, almost Ozilesque.
Thanks!

Well in Lurky, I couldn’t even cheat properly 😳
Still, 999 definetly the glory number.
*walks away sadly, knowing it not to be true.
Careful H2H, those are the early signs of LWC Delusional Disorder.
That’s poppyCOCK, TS 😉
After checking few vids of our shiny new signing ..I am just even more assured about how good he is. He has everything, skills, pace, vision, ability to pull off passes (even some outside of the foot ones which would make TR7 come in his pants:P) in tight situations..fuck you interlull..I want to see him playing for us already!
Lurky for 1,000!
Good stuff!

That’s some celebration.
Thanks all.
MESUT OZIL IS A GOONER !
I am soooo happy
In Arsene we trust
No, Chrisgooner, you’re soooo ‘mesut’ 🙂
‘holic@1012 – Would have been more too.
There were a few guys kept dropping in making daft comments. The weird thing was that the comments were so similar but seemed to come from these different people. Anyway, someone seems to have come along and deleted them. Dunno what was going on, reckon we’d have been up to about 1100 if you included all of them.
So that’s not just 1000 drinks, that’s 1000 quality drinks.
A thousand drinks he said.
As if that comes as some sort of surprise. 😉
I hate the interlull and it’s barely started
I have the misfortune that my ‘best man’ is a Manc. The arrogance at times is breathtaking. ‘Did you see how much RVP is enjoying being at MU – surely he would have told Cesc how great it is to get him over’. ‘Thing about the MU fan base is that it is more hardcore, much more behind the manager and the team than you guys’.
Sad old me – paid a visit to therepublikofmancunia.com just to check out how they are feeling this morning. Worm has turned boys, the worm has turned.
Surely for a variety of reasons it has to be ‘One Mezut Ozil, only one Mesut Ozil, Walking……’
Huge apologies to the boy. @1017 should be Mesut not Mezut.
Schoolboy – sorry – I am not worthy.
I’m suprised the umlaut surge on twitter hasn’t picked up here.
KVC
That post prompted me to have a look at the Manc site.
Excellent. Really, really excellent.

It is N7 – it truly is!
Also got this from my work ‘mate’ who is a Yid:
‘Arsenal have bought Ozil for £42.5m plus add ons for trophies – brings the total to £42.5m’.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I love it when they get all bitter!
(Back to work with a smile on my face).
I’m currently stuffing Ozil down the collective throats of my mates(mostly Mancs and Chavs) on Twitter and BBM, all my updates are all about Ozil and will remain further notice.

Btw – have we talked about the NLD enough yet?
I’m really not sure we have….
Shouldn’t let a once-in-a-generation, game-changing superstar signing get in the way of celebrating sending those hapless cocks back up to Mordor with their collective tails between their legs.
Ollie @1019, please how do I produce the umlaut from my English keypad, do I have to cange my language settings?

That’s the problem with Mancs (well, one of the problems), they’re almost all plastics, half of them couldn’t even find Salford on Google. It was same in the 80’s with the Mickeys, once the going gets tough they’ll all start to bail, glory hunting jizzrags.

Ö = ” + O without hitting the spacebar.
Well, that’s how I do it, Cent.
For capital Ö, if you have a windows PC and a number keyboard, hold down Alt, press 0214, release Alt.
Or do what H2H does.
Both work.
ÖÖÖÖÖÖ
And isn’t it just so appropriate that “mesut” means “happy” in Turkish – he’s certainly made me happy, even if it does make him sound like one of the 7 dwarfs in English.
KVC @ 1017
Don’t do it often, but last night I ventured over to Red Cafe.
The pain was palpable and my meal of schadenfreude was washed down with a hangover curing Weissbeer, in deference to our new recruit.
H2H – I hereby thank you for supplying my vocabulary with amazing insults to toss around when needed, jizzrag being latest addition to fine line of cuntbuckets and wankhammers 😀
Times like this remind me öf how reactiöns tö the signing are a matter of chöice and reflect the persönality öf each öf us.
It’s a real “glass half full”/”glass half empty” situatiön.

Cheers fellas but I’m using a Blackberry and none of the above options has worked.
Cent – you can also do it in old-school HTML by typing ö and Ö for ö and Ö respectively
and if you have an iphöne, just hold down the o key and a whole list of accented özils pop up to choose from.
zico, I did the same thing at whorey-whorey last night, and a warning: only go there if schadenfreude is to be a buffet, rather than an appetizer. positively dripping, there. oh, it did make me laugh 😉

Four great new players AND TGSTEL. I expected no less and never had a single doubt. Only one can I ask the club to increase the price of my season tickets to compensate for this extra value?
1044 N7
That is a thing of beauty.
Bearded@1042/1043 you seem to have left out the semicolon. Ö Don’t. It’s essential.
Hahahahhahaahhaa @1044, seriously?
Gotta love (in a dispicable feeling almost sorry for kinda way) the Totts.
Sunday morning they were on top of the world. Their management team had brought in a top squad while their neighbours had nothing, they were unbeaten, the so called experts had them as title chalengers, what could possibly go wrong?
Hehe H2H @ 1057 (!). Quite!
h2h what could go wrong is they remain convinced that a barrel full of breath mints will cure their halitosis (which they attribute to cheese and onion chips (crisps, to y’all british empire lot).
LuPo out until December.
Why does good news always have bad news behind it?
Over 1,000 drinks?
Thirsty bunch.
Have we signed anyone yet?
Heh N7 @1044. Great spot.
To dare is to doo doo, in their particular circumstances. Their special relationship was pathetic social climbing with an institutional predator. They need to bond with Stockport County or Grimsby.
Had a classic today. If Ozil was any good Chelsea would have signed him. Or Man U. Or City. Or PSG etc etc etc
I just grinned.
Our most successful transfer window in a long long time. And panned out more or less how Arsene had indicated, maybe except for the signing of a Giroud back-up.
Had to follow the TDD events in a truncated, disjointed manner in between rides from hotel to airport, airport to hotels, and that heightened the surreal feel of these always very bizarre proceedings.
In a world of knee-jerk and instant gratification and lack of patience if nothing you need to admire Arsene’s nerves and courage of his well thought out convictions. Still remains irreplaceable in my view.
What a great club! What a great manager! And what a fantastic team of players!
Welcome to Arsenal, Mesut.
Let the fun begin…
We are signing Benteke in the January transfer window. You heard it here first. Watch this space.
Testing
N7 @ 985: There were some fantastic comments by Ranieri when he was at Roma and the insecure retarded one was winning stuff in Inter about how it is not worth it — for footballing or human terms — to resort to those typical nasty shenanigans to win a pot or two while making a mockery of basic human decency.
He, and his current paymaster, are emblematic of everything that is wrong with modern ‘top European’ football.
Benteke in Jan?
Works for me.
Dr F
Could not agree more.
Plenty of teams win things and still get no respect from me or anyone else. Winning isn’t all there is.
I actually think Iniesta said it best: “the result is an impostor, it goes beyond winning and losing”.
http://www.foxsportsasia.com/football/primera-liga/news/detail/item981219/
“A big club can’t play like Mourinho’s Madrid. We don’t let the pitch dry up so it turns into a ‘potato field’, nor do we kick the other team 30,000 times or try to turn up the heat in a game. We didn’t even do that when Madrid went above us.”
Still basking over here!
Mesut fucking Özil!!!!
Cent (and other users), if you have an Iphone, all you have to do is add the German keyboard and switch whenever you want to umlaut 🙂
Ö !
Thanks Pangloss! Something tells me having the ability to write that particular letter will be important for many years to come 😉
Thanks N7.
He really found his level with that bunch of jokers he now manages. Some Inter supporters took to him for it is one of the least liked and least supported clubs in Italy and their persecution complex found a true champion.
Most Real supporters never liked him, just an intolerable manager to have around any proper football club.
But enough about the seamy underbelly of football.
Arsenal. Just what a great fucking club! We are the best.
Maybe it is this strange planet of California that is making me this euphoric, but that was a tremendous strengthening of the squad. Three brilliant signings all in their own ways.
Mesut Özil. Aaron Ramsey. Jack Wilshere. Santi Cazorla. Thomas Rosicky. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Mikel Arteta. Matthieu Flamini.
Think about that people. A midfield of variety, depth, craft, artistry, graft…ably assisted by three fantastic goalscorers in Poldi, Theo and Giroud.
Maybe somebody else had already posted it, if not this is joy to watch. Pure art.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVRiUG21ZHM
Might as well
So Bendtner releases a statement that he wants to fight for Arsenal. I’ll gladly welcome him back if he can keep his drama away and rediscover his love for footballer.
Just based on inherent talent hes far better than Chamakh.
Anyone who has seen his goals against Ipswich, Barcelona, Hull City , Wolves , Sp*rs know that there is a decent footballer in there somewhere. Get your head sorted out and get your love for football back and work hard Nick. There’s nothing as too late in football or life.
Gooners are the best fans in the world you can hope for and you are at the best club in the world if you want to develop your footballer.
Work hard and we will cheer for you again. UTA.
Cör @1070, Panglöss sorted me out earlier.
He’s got his own back heel reel:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4kluiDOFFA
If Bendtner wants to fight for Arsenal, cover him in gravy, give him a knife and chuck him in a pit full of bears. If he lives, he can go on the bench in the Capital One Cup games.
But Cynic, I heard that only a bear born of a human can harm Bendtner.
The fact that there is 2:30 (and 1:30) long video just of Özil backheels is absolutely mental. What..a..player!
@Cynic,
Ill cheer for anyone who wears the red and white and fights for the cause.. 🙂
TGSTEL.
What a waste of talent.
He obviously had some, Sajit, but he pissed it away and his ego got the better of him. Not even Arsene, a man known for taming the beast, could get his head to swell a little less, I’m surprised the guy could even get a shirt over his head.
It’s been a good few years since he’s made any kind of meaningful cotribution to our club, he himself stating that he would “never play” for us again. But we set up loan deals for him, some he took and did bugger all, some he scuppered due (reportedly) to his outragous demands. The only time he ever really gets any media coverage is for the wrong reasons, nothing to do with his “class”on the pitch, just his “total lack of” off it.
Yet here we are in a bit of a bind and he, like herpes, impossible to get rid of. Not in the slightest an ideal situation, but here we are none the less. He’s in the last chance saloon, his contract is almost at an end and time is ticking away. Without first team football he can’t put himself in the window for the likes of Hull, Palace or whoever come up next year and are a bit desperate, to give him the once over. He is going to have to work harder then his ego may allow, otherwise the stark reality will be that he will be left out in the cold. No more 50 gees a week salary, no fucking way, he’ll be lucky to get a trial at Daggenham and Redbridge (no disrespect to them).
So Mr TGSTEL, time to pull your
pantssocks up, roll up your sleeves and work like you should have done three friggin’ years ago, a lifeline has been thrown. Us fans are a pretty forgiving bunch (in some cases) but it’s up to you…….sink or swim, it’s your choice!? .Well said there, Sir H2H @1082. If only Arsene will print it out and give to the Dane to mull over.
Essöööööooooooooooooo! (too long to type with umlauts everywhere 😉 )
Well that answers my Demba Ba question. But then, why did Jose say he would sell to a rival? Was he now bitter for not landing Rooney. Something tells me he knows that we know that his squad is not as good as being made out.
In addition the blues wanted to do a permanent deal. The story about us agreeing terms was obviously BS because we didn’t agree a fee (don’t forget that part folks- very important).
Sounds like we were not happy with the fee. BA has a deep injury record which could have played a part in negotiations with da blues.
Ah well, time for Sanogo to go go and score score!!
Mourinho is a cunt. plain and simple.
Of course I would have liked a striker but seeing how difficult we have found to get rid of deadwood I rather have no striker at all than a Plan D.
“Carzola on the left of me. Özil on the right here I am, stuck in the middle Giroud.”
Got to be worth an airing at the next home game surely????
😀
You’ve all seen a video of &oulm;zil’s backheel but have you seen him nutmegging the sh*t out of people? For good measure he also nutmegged Cashley in this clip, enjoy http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=duLmBLbAxjQ&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DduLmBLbAxjQ
Heh @ Steve T, our own Stealers Wheels.
Ignore the failed attempt at using the umlaut.
O yes
shit.. failed umlaut attempt
√ no √
Watching those vids, wow he has quick feet, but he also gets fouled a lot because of his rapid thought. He’ll fit perfectly in to our counter attacking game.
Cent – Thanks for the namecheck at 1070. I considered Panglöss but have gone instead for the equally Teutonic version above (I hope).
Result!
Oh god – look at this from Ozil. Ridiculous:
http://i.minus.com/iYRyXvvxKZ5nw.gif
IF I HAVE to think of a negative by Ozils signature, its this – this pretty much puts to bed any theory that Cesc Fabregas will return to arsenal.
Since he continues to be my fav. Arsenal player ever.. its a bit of a bummer.
timely assist?
Bang
Haha, I’ve still got it, the randomly popping up on the drinks at the right time for an assist. Was slightly concerned about scoring or tabsing. 😉
Olliesque or Özilesque?
Well in N7!
Goal.
Well in N7! I’m losing a bit of form.
Depends what your aim is, Cent 😉
N7. Bang on!
Seeing as our new Italian keeper comes to us from Palermo it could be he is even better “connected” than don Vito. Not sure I would want to score a goal against him considering the possible Sicilian recriminations. 😉
Sajit. I think you’re right about Fabregas. Not that anybody with any power to make it happen was suggesting that it actually would happen over the summer.
In any case Ozil represents the new and Fabregas never could in the same way again.
Heartfelt congratulations to Pangloss on becoming a new Dad. May the offspring love the Arsenal as much as you do. 🙂
Re: Sajit @1093. Nice checks. The umlauts will have to wait. 🙂
Hahhaha, Ollie is now Öllil?
8ball, no no no. My wife might be reading this. The new father is Porco Rosso.
Easiest way to produce an umlaut on a capital O:
Copy Öllie’s @1084. 🙂
öne of the things that excites me most is the growth this will bring to the team. i watch aaron this year and he clearly has sorted some of his finer touch and release timing issues that showed up last year too often. that could be down to better fitness and more post-shawcrossing. it is also probably, if not in the main, from working with someone like santi daily.
now we will have özil, and our youngsters will have another ace to learn from. zelalem could not be at our club at a better time. jack will be able to slow down his push to fitness while working with one of the best, etc. next year he should come good like aaron this year.
i’ve always been of the belief that wenger’s biggest “mistake” was not replacing dennis. but, aside from the question of how do you replace god, the ££ were obviously truthfully tight. now he has done so, and the team will be lifted again. way to go, le boss.
Porco Rosso. Please notify Pangloss’ wife. 🙂
Sorry Pangloss for the mistake. and :double blush:
Afternoon all,
I’ll be brief because Talk Talk have been world class cunts and I’ve lost my internet until at least tomorrow pm. On the iphone and my typing is just too shit to say very much on one of these.
But …
– top top blog ‘H. Bloody fantastic day on sunday from start to finish. Great to see everyone. We are the Arsenal and they are the cunts and it really really is as simple as that.
– Enjoyed having a back drink – great work all. Pretty funny at times when you already know how it all ends.
– Ozil! Fucking Ozil! What a player! Arsene knows.
– Hearty congrats Porco.
Bloody great 48 hours. Enjoy!
Öllie @1104, I was aiming for the goal of course.
@1096, I’m not quite sure I will be able to find that last character in your name, hope you don’t mind me referring to you as Pangloss.
Haha massive fail on the umlat.
A quick comment here:
Now that the dust is starting to settle, the immediate wow factor of Ozil is dying down. On some websites (guardian, espn) the haters have gone from: 1) MO is a great signing wow!, to 2) MO is nice by Arsenal didn’t need him and they are still paper thin, to 3) MO is overrated, Ancelotti didn’t want him so he’s not all that good. Arsenal fail!
Its hilarious. AW got us exactly what we needed.
Flamini – Def. mid cover.
Viviano – for added keeper cover (who of you follow Serie A? or Serie B? My buddy from Milan was surpised/impressed with the keeper pickup)
M.O. – added Creativity in the attacking third. Virtually unrivaled vision and passing. Scores a fair few goals. Bang!
Sonogo is raw but will do well in time. Best case: the new Benteke – just not as big of an a-hole. Worst cast, another Bendtner.
With Arteta, Ox, and Vermalin all due back in the fall – i love the fact that the paper pundits still write us off as paper thin. Let the haters hate. Gonna be a whale of a year!
Cheers All. I think schnapps is the order of the day!
cent@1088, the sequence in that video starting at 1:06 is brilliant.
Well iN7 and indeed, that Gif is Ridicalickali
Heh @Öllil.
Tabs, I feel slightly to blame, use your exclamation mark and then the O without using a space, it should then become Ö
not panglöß?
!O
wonderful, laughter-inducing paragraph by sam limbert at espn:
“At this point, I would like to thank Tottenham Hotspur. While I think there were deals Wenger could and should have gotten done earlier in the transfer window, he did maintain that things would happen in the market generally near the deadline. Gareth Bale’s move to Madrid has undoubtedly caused the domino effect of the club being willing to let Ozil go. Had Spurs resisted Madrid, I can’t see how Ozil to Arsenal would have materialised. So after losing the North London derby, Spurs have also lost their best player and inadvertently helped Arsenal make one of their most exciting signings ever.”
burn, baby, buuuurn.
another great line from that article:
“There could be holes later in the season, especially up front or in defence, but for the moment I’m off to run around outside and wave my arms around like an excitable child.”
Cazorla and Özil together can cause some serious confusion in opposition defences. Butterflies in the stomach, perhaps?
“British heart. German efficiency. Spanish flair. French elegance. And Bendtner”
Another go.
Scruz @119, glad you liked it.
Homer @118, thumbs up.
Well what can I say, I DO TRUST WENGER
One more. 😀
Haha fuck it! 😀
Time to change my handle I guess good job now we are talking, and fuck mourinho
trev, is that iTrev? if so you can just hold down the o key and a list of choices will pop up (either that or you’ll be left with a lot of o’s).
@1132 Good target for your ire. That man should take a shower.
Get in! Cheers Scröz. 😎
Takeablowson? haha.
Interesting that not only did the RM fans want Özil to stay, so did his team mates. He seems to have been really popular. More good news.
(NB52 please take note – don’t be an asshole all your life.)

That’s Wolfie Pa 😀
dkgööner @1137. That’s the kind of article I like to see. Arsenal on the ascendancy? Could it be??
Heh, well I see who wears the pants in the family… 🙂
Haha 😀
@1129
Absolutely magic. Well played son.
Everyone gotta get behind the manager and the team now. We’re going to push on. Fuck old battle lines, just get everyone on the same page and behind the Arsenal.
COYG
hahaha “And Bendtner” part killed me Lurky XDD but seriously, if Özil acclimatizes as quick as Santi did (and I really hope that is going to be the case, he is too quick for bullies kick him up anyway), can you imagine the service our strikers are going to be provided with?
Also as mentioned somewhere way above, even that he is our only classical striker now, Giroud became far more clinical than last year.
With service like he is going to get, why should not he become one of the top strikers in PL this season?
Congratulations on cracking the umlaut and welcome to the Tueton side täbs
no worries, tabs. glad to be of service 🙂
There is talk on the streets (I am sick of it as all of us but still) that Arsenal tried to revive deals for Rooney & di Maria yesterday but clubs wouldn’t sell. Enquiry for Pastore rejected, too.
Umlaut practice !
Bugger, worse than Tabs ! 🙁
Oööö. Cheers scruz, no it wasn’t me before.
Sorry again tabs, exclamation mark is ! ofcourse, so what are these buggers ” called.
*Note to self, must learn a beet ov de ingles.
Ö-zil to The Arsenal !
It works. 🙂
trev, ha. i wrote trev, erased it, got distracted, then wrote it again and added the itrev to be clever. clever as a brick (thick as two short planks, if you like).
quote marks, or inverted commas, h2h?
Halloumi, Trev?
H2H -haha no worries mate. All sorted now. And I see Trev has cracked it too 😀
Cheers Scruz and Pangloss.
I have bought a Goldfish, called it Ozil, and have founded The Church of the Sacred Fish. All new worshippers welcome. Gonna be big.
But it’s not ” – it’s ¨ – and that’s called an umlaut in German (and in English apparently).

‘holic. Does this mean Dick didn’t disappoint?
I see the AFC online shop has managed to work out the umlaut. That could have been embarrassing.

Evening All
I doubt whether there will be many empty seats for the Stoke game. All the stay at home ST holders will be out in force. This signing will bring the doubters back into the fold, should make Ivan & Co very happy!
It’s a win win on all fronts.

We’re all so mesut.

I must say that the Cretan sun has felt even warmer and nicer than ever before in these past 48 hours. We got here with about three hours to spare before the game, and were treated to a complimentaty late lunch at the hotel. Then we went to the neighbouring village and sat down at the sports bar to watch the Poo v ManUre game – which, as you would expect, was shit – and then the humiliation of the perennial losers of a full set of wheels started. They went from flying so high to crashimg down in a matter of just over 24 hours, and it is absolutely hysterical to see them start petitions to end the “partnership” with Real, a deal that they were crowing about a year ago but that everyone else said meant “ok, we’ll settle for Modric this summer but we’ll come back for Bale in a year!”. (for the record, though, they still have a decent team that in time may gel and be quite good but let’s leave that for now)
I still can’t belive it’s true that we actually got Özil in, and those moaning about the lack of a striker completely miss the big picture. This was a statement of intent if I ever saw one, and as a side note it was also the day that Real officially stopped being a football club and became little more than a travelling circus.
Alright, there’s probably a ton of other stuff to say but this’ll have to do for now. This very happy Swede shall now browse the interweb for a bit and see what has ben said during the day. Laters all, and the drinks are of course still on me even if I am on holiday!
Never mind all you who are having trouble.
You can’t make an amlaut without breaking some eggs. 😉
ÖÖh tÖ ÖÖh tÖ be… ÖÖh tÖ be a GÖÖnaaah!!
ÖÖh tÖ ÖÖh tÖ be…. we’ve gÖt Mesut Özil!!!!
