Tottenham At Home, Happy Days
Jan 3rd, 2014 by 'holic
If ever a match was destined to cause a churning of my stomach, it is the FA Cup third round pairing with the swampdwellers. For all manner of reasons this promises to be an emotional affair.
If Tottenham at home doesn’t get you going you need a check up from the neck up. They may not have been rivals, as such, for so many seasons in the Wenger era, but they will always be the opponents to get the blood pressure rocketing.
Back at the start of September a memorable day saw us follow up consecutive 5-2 home wins with a 1-0 triumph against an expensively rebuilt Spurs. If I make it back to the west country feeling half as happy as that day we will have beaten the neighbours yet again.
The team news is mixed, and therefore adding to the washing machine motion in my digestive system. We are definitely without Kieran Gibbs, Aaron Ramsey, Nicklas Bendtner, and almost certainly Olivier Giroud. Mesut Ozil was also a doubt earlier today but trained and is regarded as an option to fill in up front according to the boss. We tried that with Arshavin a few years back and I’m not sure he should get the nod ahead of Lukas Podolski, particularly as the latter may benefit from having his international team mate providing the bullets for him to fire.
The visitors too have their injury problems of whom the most notable may be Vertonghen. That means a likely start for Dawson, always a bonus for any opponents. Despite being stretchered off with a clunge strain at Old Trafford on Wednesday the charmless Adebayor is fit to start and seems to have rediscovered his long lost mojo since the departure of the latest manager, Andre Vilas Astley, to fall victim to Arsenal’s domination of parochial affairs.
The FA Cup may not hold the same magic for managers like Paul Lambert and Sam Allardyce, but for supporters it remains a major piece of silverware. Put a derby match into the mix and you have a competition that surely demands the strongest possible side is started? Arsenal versus Tottenham on a Saturday evening over six hours after opening time, and over five thousand visitors in the Clock End. I think you can safely assume there will be a bit of atmosphere for this one.
The ‘holic pound can obviously only go one way, but I think we are likely to see more than the one goal that secured the points back on that magical September day. I have taken 16/1 against a 3-1 home win, but would willingly accept a 1-0 with a mishit backpass deflected past a floundering Loris by the reappearance of the Highbury squirrel. We can but dream.
For those going I shall be in the watering hole of choice at least pre-match. If you are not going to the Fulham game in a fortnight feel free to pop by and buy me a drink for the birthday perched perilously between the two fixtures. Just kidding. Really. Honestly. But thanks for the thought…
Have a great one ‘holics. Mind those emotions afterwards! They can go down as well as up. Here ends the government warning.

Love it! And will you fucking well stop apologising (on twitter)!
Nice one Cynic! Life in the old dog yet?
Top 3
Well in Cynic, Lonestar and Esso

Lemonade? Think I’ll pass until after the Fulham game, thanks Cynic 😉
Great preview!
Top work
What’s the soup of the day?
WHAT’S THE SOUP OF THE DAY?!!!
FOYS, no soup for you.
Nice write-up, ‘Holic. May our victory be suitable prologue to your birthday celebrations…

Clunge strain.
Thanks, Baff. You’ve inspired me, to wit:

Well in lads, I’ve only had one first in my life (a bit like Sp*rs in terms of league finishing positions) so any top ten is a win in my book!
I don’t buy into this ‘we need to concentrate on the league so losing wouldn’t be so bad’ shtick. This is THEM, I don’t care what competition it is – only a win will do.
On top of that I would LOVE to win the FA cup again as it’s still magical in my eyes and would involve knocking out at least two teams of hideous cunts. In this case, starting with round three.
Come on lads, let’s kick off 2014 with a kicking!
And get the ‘holic pound on 5-0 to THE ARSENAL. Not 5-2, or 5-1 but fucking 5-0!
We hate Tottenham and We hate Tottenham
We hate Tottenham and We hate Tottenham
We hate Tottenham and We hate Tottenham
We are the Tottenham HATERS
Space to play tomorrow.
And Dawson.
Easy. 😎
Excellent preview, maestro.
Birthday celebrations at the Tollie? Something tells me there should be a Health Warning.
Hoping your crystal ball is in tune, H.
OH I forgot-
THMBD
Fuck off you arsenal scum.
Nice one guv’.
I think we should test out Lloris with some nice through balls, he’s been riding his luck since the begining of the season and is long overdue a red card, surely the refs must have sussed out he’s a cheating fucker by now?
Not that we’ll need any help from the ref though, we’ve done fine without them all season already. Sp*rs are not that difficult to beat, just don’t give them any set pieces and they’ll be fucked.
COME ON YOU REDS!!!!
Nice one Guv’nor. Nothing too sensational, as you said if you aren’t up for this game you need to get yourself checked out from the neck up. I think I’d almost prefer a deflected backpass going in off the squirrel, but I’d take 3-1 too 🙂
And our very own Sp*d. Same to you Stratty, and who are you calling scum?
COYG
@17Stratty
Heh! Got to move your sunbed? Never mind you can go for a chicken kebab later.
I really, really, really wish I was going tomorrow.
Stratty is one of the educated ones, worryingly…
An educated cunt is still a cunt.
I used the term educated loosely there H2H. These things are all relative 😉
Plus he has a rat in the middle of his name, pretty apt.
Heh. 🙂

Tim. Sherwood’s. Mother. Is. A. Whore.
Holic, I will get you a drink on the 18th!
Who the fuck is Tim Sherwood?
Shouldn’t he be managing Nottingham Forrest?
Where’s the Arsenal Gentleman when you need him?
I guess poor Stratty ran out of arson ideas and decided to try flaming our bar.
Well as comedian Robin Harris once replied to a heckler, “Somebody put a dick in his mouth…my zipper’s stuck.”

Love the cocky attitude on you dirty gooner scum yeah you might finish above us this season but with the potential in our players and manager it’s just a matter of time COYS!!! FOYG!!!!
Oh it’s that time of year…the vermin are coming out of their lairs just like in Camus’ La Peste.
Ever optimistic and ever unfulfilled. Premature ejaculation is an insurmountable problem for these pricks.
“finish above us this season”
Copy and paste job was it, fuckwit?
By the way cuntos, the Y word isn’t welcome here, so save your typing hand and don’t let the other one fly off the end of your helmet…
Baff, these nutters are hilarious. “yeah you might finish above us this season but…”
But, what?
Nevermind the irony of them lot coming to our humble establishment and acting out of order.
I thought their curfew began at 5 past 2?
THMBD
We signed Stopila Sunzu or Yaya Banana yet?
Ah….. The deluded never learn. ” With our potential….” That’s a new one. The only thing spurs have succeeded at is always underperforming, and don’t even get me started on their football team.
Those of you going, enjoy. Wish I could make the trip.
THMB….there is no other course of action contemplated. Let’s send them scurrying back down Seven Sisters road before the final whistle is blown.
Meanwhile I shall raise my glass in a victory salute a little after 7pm whilst I continue my birthday celebrations – the LWCs will not rain on my parade! To those going keep safe – all day drinking prior to a NLD is not the best of ideas of crowd safety!
Word is Zelalem will make his debut, if so imagine how the young man must be feeling this evening! A year ago he was still partaking in school lessons, now he is about to burst into the first team of the league leaders. What a talent he must be.
I just hope Gnabry gets a start. The boy is a beast and our team is crying out for a proper wide player – he puts Walcott to shame when it comes to supporting his full back to when do defensive duties as an aside. I would rather see Walcott be upfront as opposed to Poldolski as the German is far more effective on the left.
Bath, the nearest they get to Camus is watching Eastenders Albert square on a Wednesday evening;-)
Lurky @37
Nope nor Alistair Hurrah yet either.
Heh Uply @41
Oh as an aside, I really feel for Bendtner. The flow of the match on NYD altered when he and Risicky entered the pitch. I just hope his ego will allow him to remain at Arsenal come season’s end. He undoubtedly has a believer in Wenger and when he is focused he is a very useful talent. He is a far better header of goals and a better mover than Giroud. His pace is quite deceptive which makes him a great alternate for the Frenchman. I expect though the signing of a forward this month (which is needed) will make Bendtner’s mind up about staying.
@32COYS
Heh!
That’d be the genius manager who has n’t got his Uefa Pro Licence yet?
Seriously doubt Zelalem will start tomorrow. Arsene knows the importance of this game, he’ll play the best team available.
Birthday drink for the masterful maestro. Great preview by the way. And only six pints did the trick?
I agree Lars. We have a 9 day gap after tomorrow. Plenty of rest after we beat them.
Gnabry may start but I think it will be an experienced team.
I to think playing the younger of the Germanic young men would be a gamble, I hope Flamini plays tomorrow. As another aside going back to the NYD match, I cant believe match of the day did not show the Szcer save at the end of the contest! The save was out of this world and should be regarded as one of the best of the season so far! I recall he pulled of an identical save at the feet of Rooney on his debut at OT three years back; anyone who claims Arsenal need another keeper should be shown Wednesday’s save and be asked to keep quiet – though granted, his dealing of back passes must improve as I fear he will run out of luck on that front soon as he very nearly did last Sunday.
Lars / Norcal…..rule 1 of the NLD, you always put out your strongest available team. With the 9 day gap to our next game, there is no plausible reason not to. The interlopers must be dispatched back to the swamp empty handed 🙂
Nothing is a bigger rivalry than the NLD.
They’re the enemy because they’re from North London.
That’s the way it is, and that’s the way it should be.
Fuck Spurs.
To answer NBN from previous drinks – yeah it does indeed ring some bells and yup we were in for him back in the day he was in Sparta Prague, but ultimately the transfer failed on the work permit thing.
He then moved to Rennes from where Chelski usurped him.
Excellent post, ‘h.
Been a Gooner born and living far away from North London I couldn’t quite get my head around the fact that Tottenham Hotspurs, with their team of players I’ve never heard of and who were quite simply not up to the quality of the players we had in our team at the time of my initiation into Goonerdom, were considered our fiercest rivals. Back then I wasn’t able to watch about 75% of our games live but whenever I watched a North London derby(I didn’t even know they were North London Derbies then) be it a replay or a live game I almost felt sympathy for them because I felt we our stars were always bullying(the passion our players showed made it obvious they were always extra motivated and went out on their way to always try to beat them)them to submission.
Fast forward many years later when I started watching every game live and I got to understand the rivalry better through history posts on blogs, especially this blog, comments like the ones @17, 32, 33 and in more recent years on Twitter. I got to experience first hand, online, the level of hate and disdain Tottnum and their very few fans(they are few when compared to fans of big clubs, but then they are not a big club so I might be judging them unfairly) have for The Arsenal and her lovely fans.
Aided by the British media through their many false prophecies of a power shift in North London in recent years, their love for DVDs and their mind the gap campaigns(LOL) e.t.c they showed me that there is nothing they would love more than to become as big and better than The Arsenal, they managed to make me detest them more than the blue chavs and their noisy irresponsible excuses of fans who I have the tiniest bit of pleasure of seeing on daily basis in Nigeria.
In view of the above I take utmost pleasure in beating lily white cunts no matter the circumstance, competition or venue of the match. If and when we beat them tomorrow I will be jumping, bouncing and basking but if we lose…we won’t lose they’re shit!
Hey, Cent, do you not like the T*tts then? Spell it out, man!
COYG
Top Preview Squire although i prefered mine for bluntness 😉
Loving the responses to our nearest and dearest, Although due to the wit level displayed im pretty sure theyve gone straight over their heads 😉
I live in Chelsea land and their New Age Fans are complete Muppets but the old boys are generally sound and although i dislike them nothing gets close to my disdain for this lot, I Fucking Hate them, and everything about their shit club !
Up The Arse
What do you think of Tottenham?
Norcal @56, Shit! What do I think of shit? Better than Tottnum.
🙂
Cent – I wasn’t born in the UK either but grew up supporting Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
As a fanatic fan (surprise surprise that’s who I am in everything I follow e.g PL, NFL, NHL, NBA, and MLB) I was brought up to hate Hapoel Tel-Aviv because that’s what you’re supposed to do.
You’re a Roma fan you hate Lazio and vice versa.
Panathinaikos hate Olympiacos.
Fenerbahce hate Galatasaray.
Inter hate Milan.
And so on and so forth.
I’ll tell you a little secret – I started supporting The Arsenal in 95 when I was 9 years old when I found out that my second idol (after Avi Nimni) Dennis Bergkamp signed for a team called Arsenal.
At the time I hated Man U because they were then what Barca is now. The Hipster’s team. The one every one is “supposed” to support. That’s why our TV channels in Israel only broadcast Man U’s games during those years.
I didn’t even know what city Arsenal is from until I asked my dad and he told me that they’re from London and I asked him “who is Arsenal’s Hapoel?” And he said Tottenham. I immediately knew that Tottenham would be my most hated enemy (along with Hapoel) from that moment till the day I die.
Proper upbringing, Snir. 🙂
For sure.

Some aggressive chaps on this site lol. I thought you’d guys would be cocky due to your unlikely position in the league but why are some of you so angry? Relax guys it’s a game. The games have been great the last few years since we’ve ‘come back from the dead’. Listen, arsenal are a great club and they have done things the right way for nearly 25 years now, but, to call spurs a small club with a small fan base is retarded. Show some respect to the club that makes your club interesting. Likewise spurs fans on that one. Only recent history and a stadium separates the two. Neither are big super clubs, arsenal are a little more considered due to the last 15 years, but they have a poor European trophy record, spurs have a weak domestic record, both have a similar fa cup/league cup record. Spurs WILL have a new stadium. The training facilities are on par, spurs may just sway it due to theirs being newer (the academy results back this). The main difference is the manager. Ask yourself spooners…what could wenger do with the spurs squad? Scary thought. And this is why things can change in a flash, one change of management and a dynasty is born/crumbled. Anyways….don’t be so aggressive with what you say, you may just fall by them. Let’s celebrate the magic of the cup with two of the best entertainers in England going at it. May the best team win. Forever the NLD!!!!! The best game in football…
Raises glass to Uply, many happy ones.
(It’s past midnight here)
Good stuff, Snir, my hate for Manure grew for quite a number of reasons apart from them fighting for titles with us;
1. David Beckham played for them. I grew up hating David Beckham for been more popular than Dennis Bergkamp. Dennis was the first non-Nigerian player I loved but he wasn’t as popular as David back then in Nigeria so everytime I tried to chat about him with people they thought I was just mis-pronouncing David’s name because of the similarities in their names. I even got flogged by a senior in Secondary school because, apparently, I was been disrespectful by arguing with everybody in my dormitory, himself included, and telling them they didn’t know football for not knowing Dennis Bergkamp and David Beckham were two different people.
2. I hated Ferguson for, well, been Ferguson and he was their coach.
3. Before the arrival of Fc chelsea 2003 Manure had the most concentration of loud-mouthed and stupid fans.
Now that Fergie and Beckham are gone, RVPenis is not getting on the pitch much for them these days and the blue chavs’ and their supporters are all over the place my hate for Manure has been toned down a bit.
Nice one Liam, but sorry mate, Spurs are nowhere near as big a club as The Arsenal. You’ve never one the PL and it;s been a lifetime since you won the league.
Internationaly seen you’re basicaly unknowns, except that you may have noriety as the place where Gareth Bale used to play.
YES, you will get a new stadium eventualy, but only if Levy can somehow get to pry PUBLIC funds loose from some poor unsuspecting pencil pusher in the government.
I will agree that the NLD is the best game in football.
H2H knows….again.
Nail

1961 and never again.
Liam@61 The main difference is the manager. Ask yourself spooners…what could wenger do with the spurs squad?
Sell them to West Ham?
H2H knows, and here is something to give Liam a little idea of how much of a small club they are; Arsenal have more fans living in Nigeria than in the UK meanwhile Tottenham probably have more fans living in the UK than everywhere else in the world combined and they are not even in the top three of clubs who have the most fans in the UK.
Hi holloway. I agree, we’re not as ‘heard of/big’ in the 3rd world as arsenal, they have been far superior for nearly two decades. But wouldn’t you agree your clubs best period coincided with spurs worst? I mentioned/credited the leagues you’ve won, but argued this with the fact that your European/Europa success is non existent, which is terrible considering your qualification/league champions record. Which is why I said neither of us are proper big clubs, but said your more considered. Then pointed out that there’s not much between us which could cause this to change in the near future. Our signings are always from the same market, bar ozil (which was an exception), I say that as I think you got him out of circumstance not the players declared desire to play for arsenal ala modric/berbatov/bale stylie. But out of curiosity, if wenger was our manger, how do ya think he’d do?
cont’d from 64…
I will agree that the NLD is the best game in football……….
for your lot, because basically you’ve got nothing to lose.
An Arsenal victory is seen as the natural order of things, a regular occurance, no real biggie, but a Sp*rs win brings mass pandamonia on your part, DVD’s, T shirts, a whole industry of knick knacks appear to commemorate this grand but rare occurance.
Think about that for a second before comparing the size of our clubs.
‘What could Wenger do with the Sp*rs squad?’ Use them as mannequins in an Arsenal ladies under12’s training session.
I heartily endorse this post
what could wenger do with the spurs squad?
Boil them down for glue?
Cent, where are you getting your facts from, very curious?
Considering arsenals 120+ year history in England I find it hard to believe there are more fans in Nigeria than England. This sounds like your assumption/opinion.
And for the record, nbc done a poll beginning of the season and spurs were the most followed team in North America. Hence the following:

Where has this DVD come from? The only one released was from the league cup run, which was because we won. Reading too much into that one.
Cheers H2H, quaffing some vintage port in preparation.
Rare occurrence? We win tomorrow that’s 50 mate. Not that rare.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arsenal-Fc-Classic-Victories-Spurs/dp/B0007CTKUW
Yeah it’s us who bring out DVDs lolololololol
Nice reply Liam, I’ll always take the time to converse with a proper fan who posts without abuse, so allow me to retort my friend.
Forget the third world, Spurs are nothing in Europe either.
I’ve lived on the continent for a few decades and I can seriously say that over that time i could count on one hand the number of Spurs shirts I’ve seen, no joke.
I think you’ll find that Arsenal have been pretty successful in almost every decade since the 30’s, bar the 60’s. Not overwhelming domination, but enough to keep us up amongst the cream.
European success may be limited, the lack of a CL (or equivelent) crown is indeed a thorn in our side, but as they say, you have to be in it to win it and we’ve been in it for going on two decades now, that’s some achievement, especially when you consider the fact, that you yourself have said, we pretty much shop in the same player pool. I actually think that you have spent more then us over the last decade.
I’m afraid I don’t do hypotheticals as in what if Arsene was….., he isn’t and I’m grateful for that.
Enjoy (but not too much) the game tomorrow and thanks for your civility while on our site.
Have a drink on me.
Yeah arsenal third best domestic record in England, nothing to be scoffed at. Reason I put recent history as your best period is because you can’t say the invisibles weren’t the best arsenal have ever been?
I have to disagree about Europe though. Cruft was the best player in the world, spurs follower. Your hero Dennis…followed spurs. Off the top of my head those two but I’m well travelled and I’ve seen loads, but maybe I look out for them as it’s my team.
I think we have spent more but we tend to recycle players well and don’t pay stupid wages, much like yourselves. We’ve brought a lot of good dough in. If there was trophy’s for making profit on players it’d only be us two in it lol
Ill raise you the “Donkey wins the Derby”!
Or how about ” The PA was heard to say pick up your tickets for the cup final day” but up popped Rocky Rocastle to ruin Tottenhams day !
That’s not to mention the Two league titles we’ve secured at yours 🙂
H2H It gets deflated year after year I believe 😉
Liam, I’m off to find evidence for you but before I come back consider the difference in the populations of the UK and Nigeria, compare the number of clubs football fans in the UK have to choose from with the 8, at most, fans in Nigeria have to choose from, bear in mind that more than half of the Nigerian population are football fans and as a result support one of those 8 clubs and Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea, in that order, account for atleast 70 percent of that population that supports foreign clubs.
As for the US, I hate to say it, but I think you’ll find that Man U are number one, followed by the Chavs.
Oh and the facebook page you linked to has just 1600 likes.
Before I type this ill point out that I’m not a racist/prejudice cent, but I always associate Africans as Chelsea fans? Maybe that’s the perception I’ve received in England and I think a few gooners on here would agree with that. I’m no way saying arsenal are small, I’m just challenging your idea of what we are. Avb got sacked due to not sticking to our traditions (which every media outlet/pundit pointed out). I’ve read into arsenals history because they’re part of supporting spurs, it’s why I like em to be honest. Maybe you could do the same. Get to know your enemy and all that.
Liam, a rational Spurs fan such as you is rare indeed. Whilst your mob are bigger than Chelsea historically, granted, you are not on the same level as Arsenal. 13 championships as against 2 says it all. Also throughout the decades we have finished in top four places far more often. The projection of Spurs being a so-called big club comes from the media. For me, Tottenham are the Newcastle of the south – big club status being something of a myth. For me Everton and Villa are bigger clubs than Tottenham.
Cent, arsenals global one only has 18000. Wouldn’t read to much into it
Liam – nothing I hate more than the false assumption that DB supported Spurs. He’s denied it multiple times.
If your family followed Manchester United when you were young, and your favourite player growing up was Glenn Hoddle, why on earth did you join Arsenal?
Jonathan Bowen, via email
My father was a Denis Law fan, not a Manchester United fan. And I wasn’t a Tottenham fan; I was a Hoddle fan. My plan was always to come to England after Italy. I loved the passion, the crowds. My agent knew David Dein because Glenn Helder was at Arsenal, and they came on the phone. Bruce Rioch and Dein made a lot of promises; talked about playing in a more attacking way. I couldn’t take that seriously because of the Inter experience. But I thought: Arsenal? OK. They’d won the Cup Winners’ Cup, they had Ian Wright, they had a settled team with eight or nine who always played. It felt stable, and I thought: “That suits me. It’s a big club and it’s the way I want to play football. And Highbury is nice. Let’s see what happens.” I never expected to be there 11 years, but from day one it was exactly how I wanted it to be.
http://www.fourfourtwo.com/features/dennis-bergkamp-one-one
Holloway, I’m just referencing the nbc poll I read at the start of the season, can’t find it at the min just had the spoof video. But I would’ve agreed with you, united are bigger than all of us!
Shirk I said followed…not supported. I read the whole Glenn hoddle thing. Point I was arguing is that we are not known in Europe which is madness.
David, all the clubs you mentioned are massive clubs. But our facilities, financial superiority, currently sway things our way. The support is around the same. Everyone in the top ten is big really. For me there is big then a super club. Arsenal are threatening to become the latter, but have to change the thinking, that’s why the ozil signing was significant. But this is why the prem is so tight, a lot of big clubs but no run away super club like bayern, barca, real etc.
Li – I don’t think you’re a small club but you’re not a big one either and you are nowhere near Arsenal in terms of magnitude.
As for the US. As someone who lives there and interacts with American football fans and watches ESPN FC, Fox Soccer Channel, BeIn Sport, and NBCSN – I can tell you that you’re not the most supported. Man U are. Mostly because of Chicharito and their historic success (Most football fans in the US are Hispanic).
You do however have a large following because of Keller, Friedel, and Dempsey. Which is understandable.
The media is pushing towards it covering them extensively and urging the neutrals to be in favor of Americans’ teams.
*Liam.
Not Li.
Fucking autocorrect
Sorry Liam, you got the wrong Facebook account! The official Arsenal facebook account has above 18million.
Yeah snir it done same thing when I wrote shirk lol.
As I mentioned to holloway, I would of said Man U all day long, but I saw an nbc poll that said otherwise. It did surprise me.
Would you not agree the only difference between the two on paper is the league titles and the stadium? We’ve had more trophy’s in Europe. We’ve got the stadium coming.
Not to discredit your ecl qualification record but it’s only because of the revamp and the 4 place allocation. If it was in fact a proper champs league you wouldn’t be in it.
Cent, there is prob loads of pages!! Not a good example from me to be fair.
No worries, Liam, I knew it the moment you posted it. But that goes to show you really, really underestimate The Arsenal, you should have known it was the wrong page the moment you saw that figure.
Anyone up for the goal?
Evening all. I can’t really ever remember Spurs as rivals. They are our neighbours. Nothing more and nothing less. They are like the pustular little cousin. All those spuds that have posted here that think otherwise have their heads somewhere the sun doesn’t shine. Spurs aren’t even close to being in the same league. Shit ground, shit facilities and a place that took 3 days of rioting to actually make it look better. Spurs are the Delboys of football. It’s always “this time next year.” Quite frankly it’s pathetic. For all you glory spuds that care to read this then think about one thing. You all need to raise your glasses to Martin Jol. If he had not bought Bale then today you would struggle to make top half. He carried you for 3 seasons and the money you managed to extract from Madrid has allowed you to bolster your squad with mediocre panic buys. Pathetic and the constant moaning and bleating from spurs fans over the years has become tedious, boring and quite simply insignificant.
To be honest I have no idea what sort of team we will field tomorrow. I have this horrible feeling that we will rest a few. I do hope that we don’t go for the Flappy is the cup keeper routine. Poldi has to play up front and hopefully Özil will be fit.
I just want to add one thing about Nicky B. Quite frankly I am amazed at some of the comments I have read? Yes, he had a good 20 minute cameo against Cardiff. But that’s about all he has done for this club in the last 3 seasons. It’s the only the fact that we pay him ridiculous wages that we have not been able to give him away. For those still in doubt just go back a few days to his lumbering 5 minute performance up at Newcastle. It was embarrassing. For me the sooner he goes the better. To hear AW talk about assessing his injury before deciding if he will dip into the transfer market I hope is just comment to satisfy the media. If not then quite frankly I’m amazed.
See you all tomorrow. Same place. Any ideas of arrival times people?
3-0 to the Mighty Gooners. Let’s end their season on Saturday evening, let’s see another straight red for Barndoor and let’s give Sherwood the Gooner a nice little wave at the end.
Late run, timed or mistimed?
Liam all fair points but Arsenal’s fanbase is second only to Man Utd’s in this country. Tottenham have a lot of potential but be realistic about your team’s standing.
Hope you land the ‘Holic pound, ‘Holic, with the squirrel getting a hat-trick.
Goal!
Haha, I need more training sessions.
Well in, NBN.
Cheers, Cent. 🙂

For those wanting a bit of culture before a 5.15 kick off.
Enjoy.
Well in NBN. One hell of an assist, even if I do say so myself.
er, liam.
this facebook page of arsenal’s, which is official, has 18,000 x 1000…or 18,000,000 likes.
https://www.facebook.com/Arsenal
plus more than 1.1 million talking about it.
this facebook page of tottenham’s, which is also official, has…about 3,300,000 likes, plus a quarter million people talking about it.
https://www.facebook.com/TottenhamHotspur
so, roughly 1/6 as many fans like tottenham’s page as arsenals, and about 1/4 as many are talking about it.
tottenham’s a big team? you’re having a laugh…but that’s all you must have left, after more than 50 years without a title.
forever in our shadow, in all media.
Oddly enough – where do spurs get their money
An oldste of mine was a died i. The wool tottenham man. And even he couldnt tellya.
It is depraved and surely ill-gotten. Is the only exlpanation.
And ive never seen – anywhere – a rational expanation how spurs stay afloat.
FFP … Pfff.
I love the rivalry do t get me wrong.
But id also love to see yer books. Of course, so would the tax authorities.
I’m sure you must know really Homer, but Spuds get their money from Joe Lewis, a sugar daddy based out somewhere in the Carribean.
It seems the new stadium is to be funded by a mixture of local authority money and government money – as they are desparate to try to regenerate the area – a mystery Arab investor, and Sainsburys the supermarket chain, who have bought a lot of the land and are allowing Tottenham to build their new home in the car park.
Tottenham a big club – Liam says, and Arsenal need to change their mindset.
Well, so honoured were the Spuds at being allowed to play Real Madrid in their only venture into the Champions League, that they issued a commemorative watch to mark the occasion.
Even though they lost !!!
Big club my Arsenal.
Happy Birthday, Uply.
Many happy returns, Uply.
Scent nose ! 😉
Props Trev. If i knew that … I surely forgot it.
Anyhoo … Spurs a big club. I tbinks its merely an ambition. Not a reality. No matter hard they rail against the obvious, they arent.
Ctedit to Liam for mannners and measured, intelligent comments.
We are what you aspire to. And were not even close to done yet.
Looking forward to tomorrow.
3-1 to the Arsenal.
Cheers all and a round on me. A double for Liam – The man has surely earned it.
As a gooner I accept it is my duty to be derogatory about the neighbours who are de facto beneath contempt and consideration in any discussion about anything, never mind football. But the level of abuse heaped on them by some here goes a bit far, imo. It’s only a game, ffs, and the rivalries we share should never descend to real animosity … that is plain childish.
For the record Tottenham has always been considered one of the ‘big five’ football clubs in England, along with Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton. They may not have enjoyed much success in the lifetimes of the majority on this site, but I for one have lived through decades when they were more successful than we were. Horrible times, trust me!
But as recently as 1990, when the Premier League broke away from the old Football League, it was the ‘big five’ (Tottenham included) who met with London Weekend Television to seal the deal. Indeed Tottenham’s Alan Sugar played a major role in the negotiations along with our David Dein.
Tottenham may no longer be among the most valuable clubs in the country but they’re still considered one of the ‘big five’, their history providing them with a pedigree that Johnny-come-lately olig/arab hobby clubs cannot match.
Hate ’em as much as you like when we play ’em, but please also show some respect.
Öskar
Stoked for this one!!! Have a great time Holics that are attending
Oksar you’d rather slog our players on a match by match basis.
oh and Btw .. fuck the cunts. How I’d do for respect?
About how I expected, Arsegonian.
Öskar
arsegonian@118, proper, I think.
and a glass of bubbly jupply for the birthday uply.
otd, after your near-pean to the cunts @115, methinks yours @119 could be a plaster self-applied.
excuse my spelling in 118. That was meant to be How’d I do lol. In a cab, on an iphone, after a few. Seriously, Oksar are you a spud? You spend your time criticizing our players game after game on probably the most prositive, pro Arsene and Arsenal site on a web. Then the night before a derby, you post some drivel about how storied a history the lily white cunts have and how we should respect them. Do they show respect? Most certainly not. I’d tell you to go to a spud blog …. but none have been updated in 2 months 🙂
It would be appreciated if we could turn our guns outwards on this of all days gents.
Cunts are about today.
Real cunts.
Haha what a great read! Thanks to the spurs fans for making it so enjoyable. Can’t WAIT to cunt them tomorrow (today).
With 9 days to rest before the next game I think it’s reasonable to expect le boss to field the strongest side available. He knows what the NLD means, and he also knows we’ve already crashed out of a cup competition to a London side this season.
COYG
My apologies Holic. …. #61 was a really funny post
Interesting chatter about how big a club spurs are compared to Arsenal.
My own feeling is, the less time we spend defending our bigness to them the better. The real business will be done on the pitch, as it always is. I’m confident enough in our bigness and their relative smallness to refrain from too many potshots in their direction. Fun as it may be, it’s too easy in the end.
http://youtu.be/V3YPKy9q2mk
From Trophies to UCL appearances to annual turnover to stadium capacity to blogs on the web, Arsenal dwarfs the Spuds. Spuds lead one category 15 to 1 … number of managers the last 17 years 🙂
Some interesting back drinking above. My hatred for Lily White Cunts knows no bounds but; don’t confuse them with Sugar Daddy clubs. They might be owned by ENIC/Joe Lewis but they are a commercially responsible club. Hence their absolute necessity for a new stadium and their inability to match other ‘big’ clubs’ wage structure. Every day no such stadium is delivered is another day in our (and the sugar daddy clubs) shadow. However much potential in their squad etc., they’re going nowhere until they sort that out, and whatever the rumours and efforts to extract some public money to support the project, it just aint getting off the ground in the current economic climate. Why do you think they were so desperate to get the Olympic Stadium? And they would have sold out their ‘Don’t move to Stratford’ fanbase in the blink of an eye, should they have landed it. One might say, thank god they did not.
And if light of what Holic said above;
The Wanky Tottenham Hotspur went to Rome to see the Pope……
Interesting read here … not only are the tiny totts a small club but they’re doping in an attempt to become big
http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/2013/12/12/tottenham-hotspur-blood-doping-vlad-chiriches-prp/
Morning Esso.
Dodged a bullet with Stratford, methinks. They would have got it for a fraction of what their redevelopment would cost if they could afford it.
I’ll confess that I have a small modicum of respect for the neighbours. A comical pantomime horse of a club they may be, but they’re not financially doped and they (generally) at least try to play decent football. Beyond that, they can cock off – love Spurs fans in the bar arguing that they’re on our level because of their training facilities and because they might one day have a new stadium. Gave me a right old laugh, that did: even if you lot do somehow manage to get it built you’ll only burn it down again.
What would Arsene do with the Spurs squad?! Not a scenario we need to worry about: you lot haven’t appointed a decent manager since before half our players were born, and even if you did stumble across one you’d sack him after a season or two.
3-1 to the good guys today. If we’ve any sense we’ll target whichever unfortunate individual the LWCs send out at left back – they have no quality at all in that position.
North London is Red.
COYG
FOYS
Morning all…just finished back drinking. The LWC ( club & supporters) still continue to give out loads of amusement…..the one thing they never fail to achieve. Today though they are the enemy that must be despatched back down the Seven Sisters Road with their tails between their legs.
Meanwhile a busy day for me lies ahead….thanks to all for the birthday greetings…much appreciated. Enjoy the match wherever you are. 🙂
Many happy ones, Mr U. We shall toast you in the battle cruiser today.
Morning all, huge game today. Whatever anyone says, the many gooners I know, north londoners all of ’em, will tell you that this is THE game and It matters not how well (or, more likely, badly) Spurs are doing. It’s obvious to anyone that we have been a million miles behind Arsenal for a very long time but, banter aside, why do people on both sides get hung up on that?? Maybe it’s because I’m getting on a bit but I just don’t get the hatred that I see above on what is normally such an excellent site. I do appreciate that this is an Arsenal blog and I’m setting myself up to be shot at but there you go. Anyway, I fancy Spurs to nick it…
The journey begins. Through wind and rain. A day in bed would be delightful. However there is an enemy that needs to be beaten, and beaten well. Enjoy the game Holics.
We are the Arsenal.
THMBD
Oskar, I think you misunderstand what we feel for the Spuds. I’m sure nobody here wishes any form of harm(apart from the emotional one that comes from supporting a shit club)on any Sp*rs fan, I’m pretty sure nobody here would want to see them relegated but the fact they’re our closest rivals makes it pertinent that we wish/pray/hope and ensure through willing our teams(youth teams, Ladies teams, staff teams, fans five-a-side teams and video game teams) onto victories over them so that no matter what they do they can never become better or bigger than us.
The ‘abuse’ we dish out to them is just banter which they kindly return in equal measure, you must have noticed that nobody in here takes it over the line and resort to abusing them with silly things like the Y word, the reason we don’t do that is because we respect them and that’s as good as respect between fans of rival clubs gets in my opinion.
Dave, good to see you around again. My reply to Oskar above can as well be addressed to you.
always an encounter when those guys visit…now HP is on their shirt (hideous plonkers) how apt….2-1 to the gunners http://gidigooner.blogspot.com/2014/01/match-preview-arsenal-vs-tottenham.html
Morning lads, looking back at the replies, thanks for the hat tilts and fair comments. My best mate is a gooner who I watch the games with every time, we don’t ever talk about who’s biggest between us because quite frankly I’d lose so try not to get into that. Point I make about spurs is that with our history it only takes a buyer/great manager/new stadium to change everything. I think we missed the bus in the nineties when the commercial side of English football was making deep roots globally, these were hard times to be a spurs fan. Interest has increased massively the last half decade because of our rebuilding projects and people realise we are not an ‘Johnny come lately’ club. As someone pointed out, we are deep rooted in English history and tradition and have boasted a lot of the best players this country has ever seen. Our commercial side of things has only improved in the noughties though, playing catch up again. Lol. As I said missed the boat as the successful teams made the next generation of fans.
The banter can only go so far before we have to put meat on the bones and talk football, But whoever said sainsbury’s has let us build a stadium in their car park, that was quite funny. Cudos.
For the record though, spurs have put together not just stadium plans but whole area regeneration plans; why should our spineless government get to cop out of what is a great opportunity to rebuild one of the poorest areas in London? We’ve paid for all the planning, drawings etc, all they have to do is put the money up and look like heroes. They are putting nothing into the stadium which will be funded in true spurs fashion. The government should be thanking us, there is a recession on after all and Tottenham has the highest unemployment records, we have given them a ready made solution. What would they do without our plans? Sod all as always. Please read the facts lads, we’re not monsters, just trying to build a dynasty.
#141 ….. Classic line ” it only takes a buyer / great manager / new stadium …. ” Hahahaha!!!! It only takes a winning lottery ticket and I’m a fucking millionaire. Me and Spuds have about the same chance.
Liam. Explain to me why when you can’t sell out various games why you actually need a bigger stadium? 6000 plus empty seats at the last Europa game???
You have had plans for a new stadium for as long as I can remember but nothing ever happens.
Time for a reality check fella. Each year you fall further and further behind. Still, as long as a few people like you on Facebook then all is well????
I dunno..I’m not really a proper fan, haven’t been to Highbury or Emirates and all..
but just for putting a chicken on a ball I think they are really quite adorable as a club…
I’m more than willing to talk football Liam. All this other stuff is filler. Here, I’ll start … We are top of the league and in the Champions League knockout stage. Your turn.
Cent @ 138, can’t argue with anything you’ve said there, cheers. Feng, adorable is the word.
Cheers, Dave.
Feng, I want to believe you’re joking with all that not been a proper fan because you’ve never been to Highbury or Emirates talk.
Morning all,
A lot to be said for Oskar’s @115 above, and a piece of excellence from
Esso @130.
There are geographical / territorial reasons for the hatred between the two sets of fans as well as left overs from some of the darkest days of English football.
I have also been lucky to escape unscathed from trips to White Hart Lane although I was never one to go looking for trouble.
All that sort of nonsense results in a bit more than banter between rival fans. I have been amazed at some of the things I have heard about that still go on – and endorsed by seemingly very intelligent people. It is also true that Spurs fans have made a habit of slashing seats and smashing toilets on visits to the home of football.
On the other hand, I know a number of very decent people who are Tottenham fans and who I get on well with.
The rivalry results in a conundrum.
Do I ever want Tottenham to win another thing – or even another match – no. Unless it was to relegate Chelsea.
And there’s the thing. While It would be great to see Tottenham struggling to avoid relegation every season, if they were to go down, the serious rivalry – and amusement – they provide would disappear with them.
There is a level on which I detest Tottenham, but real hatred and harming should be reserved for other things.
And you do have to respect some of their fans – just for staying loyal to such a lost cause. 😉
Steve,
You answered your own question, Europa league/poor opposition. I’ve recalled the emirates not filling up against certain opposition. If we played someone like inter Milan in the group stage, believe me it will be full. When you play unheard of teams from god knows where on a Thursday in a comp no one cares about til the quarters, people don’t like to go. Do you think the emirates would sell out in the same circumstance (& no cheap shots about you never will).
Cheers Dave, you just can’t hate anything with harmless birds, flowers and trees!
http://www.buzzfeed.com/justinabarca/if-premier-league-team-names-were-based-on-their-logos
Arsegonian,
Well done, end the season now happy days! But you guys must be fed up of being also rans? Chances are, that’s going to be the case again. Strong chance of going out the cup today, a tough February, and bayern to come and your season could be over by Easter. How confident are you really? Yeah your better placed than us, but it’s only 8 points and we’re in crisis apparently. You guys are playing lovely stuff though, it’s the mentality/belief that wenger talks about that’s the key. Have you got it? (Genuine question)
Liam, I may be in a tiny minority, because I regretted for years that the mooted groundshare at Alexandra Palace never took off back when the place burned down. It’ll never happen now and I do think that’s a shame.
On the “big club” argument, I think my best friend, one of yours, has it right. Born in the mid-fifties, he’s quite bitter about the fact that he chose a North London club to support during the tiny window when your lot were doing better than mine. So for me, I’m afraid, the guvnor has it right, above on the rihht – big club, my arse.
COYG Mash the sp*ds.
Liam. I have been to the emirates for a youth game when more turn up than they do to the Lane. The fact is that you fall further and further behind each year, but none of you see it. You won the league 52 years ago so apparently you are a ” big club.” You seem to think that as a club you have a divine right to dine at the top table? I struggle to work out sometimes who are more deluded, spurs fans or Geordies? Both seem to suffer with the same delusional views.
Facts are that the vast majority of football fans laugh at you and the soap opera Levy has created. The problem for you boys is that you are so blinkered that you just don’t see it. As I said earlier, think sensibly for one second where you would be now without Bale?
The stadium has been in the pipeline since 2008. The struggle is 1: location/plans, you guys found a location which makes life easier. We had to buy out the local area which was hard work. 2: investment, I mentioned the nonsense with the government, I’m pretty sure we’ll announce a sponsor when a certain stage has been complete. It is coming, everything is there mate, not every project is straight forward. It has to be done right. How stupid would it be if we done a Valencia?
Steve t,
Where would bale be without us mate? Or modric? Berbatov? Disrespecting us. We put them on the stage to perform. None of them done us any favours. They done what we paid them, developed them to do. How many players have you sold for £85 mil? That you bought for £5mil. Bale didn’t win a game for 20 odd games, he was a soft show pony. We made him the worlds most expensive player. Don’t disrespect us.
And how have we fell further behind? We had our record points toll in the prem era last year and we’re on course to surpass that at the min (in crisis), how are we falling. We’re catching up by those FACTS.
Without bale I might add
Liam, if the media are to be believed then we are also in crisis, in fact all our recent history has been filled with one crisis or the other; when we lose to you guys, we have the power shift in North London crisis, when RVP left we had the struggle to finish in fourth place crisis, when we ended the season in 4th place we had the celebrating 4th place like a trophy crisis, when were drawn against Fenerbache in the UCL play-offs we had the Arsenal in danger of not qualifying for the UCL for the first time in ages crisis, when tried and failed to sign Suarez and every other football player bar Ozil and Flamini we had the Arsenal summer transfer market shambles crisis, when we lost to Aston Villa on the opening day we had the mother of all crisis-The Arsenal firmly a mediocre and mid-table team crisis, the list is endless. I love the latest one we have now- The been on top of the table without a world class striker crisis, I wish it would continue till we are been presented with the EPL trophy for the 2013/2014 season in may. My only worry is that even if we have a ten point lead at the top of the table on the last matchday of the season we won’t get the trophy because, according to the pundits and expert analysts, we don’t have a world class striker and there is a law that forbids teams from winning the EPL without one.
Trev, couldn’t agree more. Love the rivalry and all the banter that goes with it but let’s not get too carried away. As for the idiots amongst Spurs fans, believe me when I say that Arsenal have their fair share too and always have done. Steve T, I don’t know a Spurs fan who thinks we have a divine right to anything but what’s wrong with a bit of hope??!! Anyway, I will end on a prediction for later- 2-1 Spurs.
Despite everything, we do need Spurs. They are the yin to our yang, the milk to our tea and the butter to our flame.
They can have a little common courtesy and a measure of sympathy, like Bruce Lee might give to a green belt, but all this talk of how close the two clubs are – please, let’s not waste any time on this, it’s playground posturing along the lines of ‘my dad could have your dad’.
The argument will be settled on the pitch, as always. How does that usually work out, eh Spuds?
Spurs fans and Geordies. You have just proved my point Liam.
Where would Bale, Betbatov etc be??? Somewhere else. Bale saved your last 3 seasons and netted you 80 million. Without that you are mid table and battling the likes of Villa and West Brom.
Steve t,
As expected, no sound argument. So where would arsenal of been without Henry, or fabregas after him? Somewhere else! As you do, we always will have someone…you know why? Because we’re two of the biggest clubs in England!
Tell me this, why are we not scrapping with villa or west brom now?
Cent,
I’ve always held the idea that the media doesn’t favour London clubs. We’re always in crisis too apparently. I’ve always felt arsenal are poorly represented. I think they don’t like individualism down at Fleet Street.
Liam. I thought I had made that quite clear. The reason you are not down with the likes of West Brom and Villa is because of Bale. Simple as that. You have been Bale Hotspur for the last 3 seasons and they he earned you 80 million. I can introduce to at least 4 spurs season ticket holders who all feel the same if you still don’t get it?
On the train. ETA at the pub, 45 minutes.
Bring it on.
Afternoon all.
Enjoyed the Otd and Esso posts, Pangloss and Trev know too.
In every rivalry there has to be a modicum of respect and even though they’ve fallen far behind us, when I started going to games (in the 70’s) thee really wasn;t much difference between the two sides, both had double wins after their names.
Liam, you make some ok points, but a lot is just silly.
Last year you may have amassed the most points you ever had in the PL, but what good did it do you? You ended up finishing a place lower then you did the previous year.
A few years ago you ventured in the CL, yet it’s just been Thursday Night footy lately, I don’t see that as moving forward.
I’ll agree with you on Bale etc, you made them and reaped the rewards
You talk about having to buy property in the area you wish to build the stadium in, like that’s a rare occurence. What do you think Arsenal had to do to build the Emirates? Do you think Islington Borough Council just handed over Ashburton Grove, the incineraton facilities, the properties on Queensland Rd and all the adjacent buildings etc?
People, facilities and business’ had to be relocated, you think the government paid for that?
Arsenal also paid for all the drawings, planning etc, plus rejuvenated a decaying area, pumping money into a poor community, I should know, I was born and raised there. They did this all on their own backs, literaly mortguaging the future of the club, a massive gamble and one that is looking to have paid off.
You talk about building a dynesty, that’s all very well and good, but why should the British taxpayer get to foot the bill for a privatly owned concern?
That’s enough from me over that.
Perfect ending; City draws. Add another fixture to their schedule!
Magic of the cup.
Citeh struggle to draw at Blackburn, Negrado’s goal looked offside to me.
———
All you heading to the battle cruiser of choice, have one on me under the ol’ brolly. 😉
Nice to see you again Dave, always a pleasure.
More games for Man Shitty the better. They’ll win the return fixture easily though.
How’s everyone hanging btw?
Ready for the big match later? I for one can’t wait!
Already drunk too! Will be massive if we win
City now have six more games to play this month – seven assuming they win the replay. Suits us fine.
If we had the result City have just had it would be taken as evidence that our squad is not deep enough.
As I said the other day, City have an expensive squad, but – much like we used to be – once you get beyond the top 17 or so players, there are some fairly average footballers, eg Dedrick Boyata, Rodwell, Pantilimon.
They are now facing a fixture pile up, what with two carling cup matches and an FA cup replay. Good. Very good.
Big club or small club, where we are respectivly in the table, form, etc, all that goes out the window in the NLD, add to that the fact that is also a cup tie and it’s anyones to win or lose this evening.
A few more hours to get a few bevvies in and off we go……..
Raises glass to H2H
Just finished back drinking.
Liam, don’t know if you’re still here but your attempts to compare Sp*rs with Arsenal are laughable mate.
Come back when your lot have won the league more times than Huddersfield and Wolves please….
Until then we’ll just keep on trucking over and continue disregarding small clubs with pretensions to the North London throne.
As I have often said there is really no comparison between a club who have won the League as many themes at WHL as they have! Two League wins against 13 says it all but this is a cheap opportunity to give themselves dome short – term bragging rights so I hope we are as up for this as we can be. I have Tottenham relatives and Tottenham friends but today I am 100% Gooner.
Re the Bendtner news it strikes me as very strange that this inadequate Dane is being considered as a bonsa fide member of our first- team squad just because we couldn’t get the Ba deal closed in September. Serious title aspirants need back up strikers who are MUCH better than this guy. Well done on NYD TGSTEL but Arsene do your best to get someone in please
Sorry I meant we have won it as many times at their home as they have- and much more recently!
Cannons. What dear old Liam fails to remember is that Arsenal have won the league more times at the Lane than spurs. If that does not make him have a reality check then nothing will.
Couldn’t get the Ba deal closed? Wasn’t that more a case of Mourinho being his usual insufferable self and refusing to let him go to us?
Holloway, would you consider train lines and road works exempt from the British tax payer? The transport network to Tottenham is crap at best. Common knowledge. If I recall though, I believe the local council was very supportive of what you guys done, and there was government monies involved where it was required, nothing to do with arsenals project but they played there part. Have you actually looked at our plans? Not a competition thing but I think it’s a much more ambitious project to that of the emirates. It’s the tight areas we’re working in. I’m not saying that in a ‘we’re better than you’ way, just it’s a different animal. And the Tottenham council hasn’t been entirely helpful either. The club has fought tooth and nail to get this to happen.
@178: Exactly Steve! If he knew better he wouldn’t come on spouting rubbish about “ifs” and what not 🙂
Steve t,
I understand fine, bale was our player so I know more than you about what he brought to our squad. But he isn’t here now, and we’re still ‘keeping up’, so what are you on about? He had one barnstorming season, before that he made as much impact as Lennon does.
And I think I mentioned your titles. When have I said we are ‘bigger’? Have a look and read. Not once. I just argued that things can change quickly. Look at united. We’re above them, are we bigger…no of course not, but they might not be the same now for years. At the start of the decade barca were in the bottom half.
Your not a proper big club until you win big ears any way, so you’ll forever be stuck having these discussions until you do because proper big clubs brush you aside every year.
Liam – By the tone of your last drink, it seems your as bored with this discussion as I am. Let’s leave the teams to do the talking on the pitch.
Good luck for the match – not too much, mind. I reckon your lot are underdogs but not by much for all the reasons above.
COYG
Pangloss, top man well spotted. Nothing worse than people putting words in your mouth.
I agree, we are underdogs today, like most who go to the emirates! But it’s all to play for, should be a cracking game! Enjoy mate.
Cheers Steve, enjoy mate.
Gunners start: Fabianski, Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Monreal, Arteta, Wilshere, Rosicky, Gnabry, Cazorla, Walcott
Theo to lead the line. Per, Woj rested
Bench: Viviano, Mertesacker, Flamini, Ozil, Podolski, Park
A little nervous about the sharp edge of that attack. We can and should run the game in midfield, but I can see us struggling to score.
Would’ve preferred to see Podolski starting out wide.
Big, big risk starting BFG, Ozil, Flamini and Poldi on the bench.
*starts to get nervous*
Sorry, Jenkinson also on the bench
Anyone for a cheeky Park winner late on?
Interesting line-up, time for some players to step-up and show what they are about ..glad BFG and Woj getting the rest, strong bench including Poldi and Ozil should things go wrong. Gnabry and Theo upfront screams for some delicious through balls from Mesut, but I suppose TR and Santi are capable of providing those either.
Sp*rs will consider twice to play a high line now.
Hmm, that lineup kinda makes me nervous…lots of shortarses in there 🙂
Missing everyone at the watering hole of choice. Have a good one.
3-1 for me, as for you, Holic.
Dave, fair enough – shocking prediction though.
Good stuff H2H, Steve T.
Liam showing Cusop tendencies as he became more and more frustrated ?
If there’s anytime for Theo to do an Ian Wright impression, tonight’s the night I guess!
Someone said above that Tim Sherwood ought to be managing Nottingham Forest with the name he has. What are the odds that he will be managing them in a few weeks?
hmmm, worrisome lineup. I’d like to see özil for jack, rather. maybe this is our most feisty team barring flams out there, and Arsène is seeing feisty as needed.
Floats one in……..
Smash
Looks like we’ll be pinging the ball around their big lumps then.
Could be stretched at set pieces.
Still 3-1 though. 😉
Thanks H2H for that goal that looked like an assist 🙂
well in, h2h, and bt with the honor spot.
Peach of a goal “Holloway”. Taster for many more to come at the Ems? We can but hope.
COYG
oh and as usual,
here are the streams for those in need 🙂

My guess would be that AW doesn’t want to risk Ozil’s shoulder first game back in a full-blooded 90 mins of derby Cup football so has him on the bench as insurance.
Well in, H2H, for the double ton.
Cheers Eandy
I’m a bit nervous about this one
Cheers gents.
I aslo suspect we won’t play with anything like a conventional No 9. Theo and Gnarby will play wide and cut inside with Santi and Rosicky providing the diagonal through balls for them to run onto.
Ooh to be an alcoholic.
Come oooooon!
Park – I’d forgotten about him when I suggested Afobe and Akpom – right off my radar.
Well, despite all our talk about putting out the best available team, Arsene has shown what priority the FA Cup has for him.
This will be difficult – if we do it with this team, Spurs will be even more of a laughing stock, but I don’t feel too confident.
Could Park be the Highbury squirrel?
Quick poll in the bar, please.
I’ve not watched any games live on streams since starting just as West Brow equalised against us a few years back and then went on to win it. I’m not sure whether the nerves will take listening to this game on 5Live – even assuming it’s on! How do my fellow drinkers feel about me watching this, assuming I can find an Android-friendly stream?
Please let me know by kick-off time. Thanks.
COYG
COYG!
Eandy is the stream master, Pangloss.
Yeaaaaaaaaah! COme on!!!! 🙂
H2H, I know that and I’ve seen his latest effort – thanks Eändy – I was wondering whether I should risk it, or stick with the tried, tested and frustrating “listen on the radio” habit.
Come on you Reds!
Match on standard Fox not Fox soccer if any US gooners are looking.
Pangloss – keep with your habits if you think they worked so far, I am doing the same 😛
I only watch streams on the computer, usually the Apple, because it’s safer.
Never tried on my phone (Samsung Galaxy SIV)
COME ON YOU REDS!!
Come on Arsenal!!!!
COYG!!
OK, thanks folks. The radio it is.
COYG
Back home safely and able to see the game on tv. Getting fired up now. Wednesday got nervy but allways felt like we will win it. Not quiet so sure this time though.
No game on, COYG 🙂
I do like the look of serge so far. and kozzer!
“Now” that should have been
Stewart robson on commentating duties: FFS.
Morning holics, (very early morning)
Scruz knows- gnabry is top shelf
Gnabry looks bright so far
My heart is pounding like a drum here….
Phew.
Well saved Fab
ech. lucky escape.
Ooh great save Fabianski
third time we’ve lost it in midfield, cut that out!
Where’s Nursie?
Hope all is well.
OOOoooooo feo, nice
oooh, great break, nearly theo.
Awesome speed and passing on the break
amen, h2h.
Ooh nicely done Theo. Gnabry involved again
Nice try Feo!
Ooooh nice and close
Unlucky again Theo
God, Theo looks great so far.
Theo looking bright!!!!!!
ooo, again theo nearly puts us up. fear the theo!
Wow gnabry
Gnabry so close!!
OOOOOOOOGnabry.
Looking good with the shots.
Almost Gnarbryyyyyy!
and gnabry!
Gnabry! I love him today
Really like to see more from young Serge. He looks sharp
So you should goonster.
Imagine when ozil is feeding gnabry theo and poldi
curl it!
Great work Mikel
Great work Arteta. whew
Gotta watch that counter attack fellas. They aren’t fucking around
Not a good place to concede a free kick
late by tv, damn. given away *again* in mf.
Oooff what a game already. COYGGGGGGGG
Early hat hit to le boss for going with Gnabry today. He saw what we didn’t. I’d love to see him score.
sorry, hat tip*
Fuckkk
oooooooooooooh.
So close
Walcott should of squared
yes, he should have h2h.
fuck diving ade.
Its coming h2h
No doubts here
SAAAANTIIIII
Time to wake up Jack
Yeeees
What a fucking finish by caz
yesss!
Santi!!!!!!!!!
That was fast
I can start breathing now
You were right Aussie, there it is. 😀
What a rocket! Santiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
It aint europa spuds
AV THAT SPUDS !!!!!!! 🙂
what a serge throughball!
GET the fuck in. Great finish by Santi but…GNABRY. Beast. If there’s a God he will score today
SANTIIII
Gnabry and theo are too quick and slick up front for this lot
Brilliant from Gnabry, every inch an Arsenal player.
Same here CoR 🙂
Felt like I was holding my breath for hours
Get in!
Gnabry, what a player!
Arsene looked extra happy celebrating that one. A double fist pump, beaming smile, and a couple little hops
ITV commentators are so effng biased. Townsend and some other Tosser.
LJW and Dembele are gonna rumble
Arsene fucking knows.
No wonder he is smiling as he looks at his bench after a scintillating goal
Shut it Jack!
Just go past that bloke again and again
jack getting into moosa.
Nice try Jack.
Oooh Tomas, should have gone for it himself
Unlucky Tomas, push on a little further next time
ooh, rozza, nearly put theo through.
jack earns the fk.
Gah. Have we scored from a direct free kick all year?
Ooooooooooooo Theo again
Gnarbry to score next! 🙂
Ack, unlucky Theo!
Should be a video ban for Dembele for the head butt if Clattenberg didn’t see it.
Give it to gnabry
kicking jack on purpose to get him riled? fuckers.
Wankers are trying to wind up jack!
Score another we shall!
Rozza da boss.
Hopefully jack has learnt to keep his cool but maintain his fight
hmmm, glad that went wide.
good fight theo.
Now that wanker I could hate.
Adefuckingbayor – you brainless twat.
Adebayor you cunt.
He still hates Sagna since that time he refused to shake his hand a couple years back
that was quick. wenger waits for santi and gives him a headlock hug going into the tunnel.
Good solid first half.
Theo leading the line well, Gnarby a beast, Rozza massive, LJW showing fight, Arteta marshaling well all doing theit best. Was a bit worried about TV in the begining, but he seems to have settled down.
I do like this more direct, shoot when the opportunity presents itself mentality, instead of trying to pass the ball into the net.
Sell Santi Cazorla? Yeah right. Yeah fucking right.
Adebayor would be nothing without Arsenal – not that he’s much anyway – and behaves like a complete and utter c*nt every time he’s anywhere near us,
What sort if arsehole gets himself banished to train with the youth squad at TWO clubs anyway.
Just fuck off you stupid bastard.
Dembele should have got a card, probably red and Cuntybayor being his usual obnoxious self.
Come on Arsenal! No slacking now. Deliver these cunts. To hell.
What H2H and Esso just said – as usual.
THIS is what squad depth looks like. Pundits take note.
Gnabry superb. Spuds left back hapless. Great goal.
Would be nice for ref to give Jack some protection. Spurs tactics are blatant.
Good first half.
ITV commentators and now Ledley King telling us how well Sp*rs are doing and they’re creating chances and blah blah blah
Yeah right …….
Too right N7, some squad heh
No mention at half time of the backwards head butt on Jack.
Oh, what a surprise.
Heh agreed N7, I would like to see Flamster in later stages running around Sp*rs players yelling at them that he is going to eat them for breakfast and do their moms for dinner should they touch Jack again.
🙂
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/21653074
here’s where we changed 🙂
Theo through the middle is working as well as can be!
Always knew he had it in him.
Just to get a goal now
trev, I can’t even imagine how badly Robson is slating us on fox. I won’t take it off mute to find out, either.
I would like to exempt Adebayor from what I said earlier about not harming people.
Many happy returns Uply!
Let’s destroy this little team with the cock on the ball shirt in the second half.
Wow! We are playing some good stuff but just need to be more clinical with the final pass and finishing.
Per mertesacker on.
Verm off
TV Off for the BFG.
I feel really confident now.
COYRsss
Good to see Per, not gonna lie
TV injured I think.
Nacho awesome defense
TV5 off, Mert on.
He had some cut on his leg as far as I saw after he took Soldado down…hopefully nothing serious.
I thought it was the yellow card risk scruz ?
Hope it’s nothing serious indeed, he will be needed.
Gnarb is a brickhouse. Ade boooo yor bounced right off him.
just cut I think, eandy saw that too. aus and h2h right as well, like or not.
The team defensive effort is awesome.
Everyone involved
love the cycling that led to our corner!
Fock me , we’re running rings round em.. should have a couple of more goals for us here!
How could the officials miss that?
Long range shots only for the spuds
fucking chiriches, why no freekick?
Ha Ha Ade cunt
Ouch..Theo down,..not looking good.
Well in jack
Champagne football from the arse
Come on, there is a second one in the air
Not offside!
Ooooooooo unlucky Feo.
Top work from Serge
Gnarbry has been brilliant! Tough as nails and has pace and composure!
He’ll score next i bet! 🙂
my son says ade plays like a 12 yo rec soccer player, heh.
Here wegooooooo
ROSSSSSSSSSICCKYYY
rozzzzzaaaaaaaa
what a ball by Gnabry
Ok, Rosicky then.. my bad 🙂
TTOOOMMMMAAAAASSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Super Tomassssssssss! Where the fuck does he get the energy frommmmmmmmm??????
Good game for the young srcuz to watch
How stoopid was that from Rose?
Well, I don’t really care 😉
HEH, we scored from their corner. 😆
hah..my stream is apparenlty minute delayed -_- what a goal by Herr Gegenpressing Rosicky!:D
Ground is absolutely reverberating
Fucking deserves it.
One and only.
Tomas Rosicky.
Bravo Maestro
Fancy trying your luck in the Champions League Spuds ?
Hahahahaha.
Crap, the Tinys make a sub, now we have to play against 11. 😉
I mean seriously, how shit was Saldildo?
ITV now prattling about dramatic comebacks.
JUST DO ONE.
Its all red out there
WOW!!!!!!!
Hahahaha.. lloris doesn’t trust his players!
AW, pleeeeeez get TR7 to sign on the bottom line!
Bloody hell, Trev.
There even worse then I thought.
Fockin ref.. that was a penalty!
*They’re
Penalty jinx continues. WHAT THE FUCK
nice save fabs.
I think you mean the dotted line Bay’. 🙂
almost, theo! nearly man this game.
Feo’s gonna get one soon, he’s working his butt off tonight.
Flam for LJW
off comes jack for flams.
Good work Jack, get some oranges in ya
hope so, h2h
How shit is Eriksen eh?
How the F did this spuds team beat Utd? Hahahha! They’re clueless!
So according to itv it was def not a pen for Nacho but a 100% freekick for Walker some secs later?
Hilarious
Arteta signalling the bench
Gnarbry defending! He’s brilliant that one!
Ozil for Arteta.
özil on for arteta!
Özilla cömeth!!!’
Ozil on …… Down to the bare bones now. 😉
We’ll have 9 days to recover, hopefully most will be back by then.
😆 Trev
should be more goals for us, then.
Hehe, cheeky
Mesut on Arteta off
theo so close!
Walcott…argh!
Ooooooooo Feo.
Shoulda wrapped it up there.
Oohhh feo no
What a shower of shit they are.
Arrrgh, so close Feo
Spuds get a corner. Stand by for a new DVD. 😉
Theo doing everything right tonight..except the finish eludes him…he will score tho.
Lamp posts! We’re playing against lamp posts… with the exception of lennon… that one at least sways in the wind. 🙂
Shit, feo looks hurt.
theo hurt his knee. poldi on?
Ok.. think we’ll get a striker in the window now…!
Been a great evening so far. Let’s just not lose another forward please ok?
Feo is getting a little battered. Poldi time?
3 subs already used. 🙁
never mind we’re out of subs. damn.
It looks bad for walcott 🙁
FEO THE MAN!!!!!
Hhaaahhaaah Feo having his fun with the fans
My commentators are absolutely bleeding heart Spurs fans. Literally begging Spurs to score, bigging them up. For Rosicky’s goal their comment was “It’s too bad really.” It’s shameful shit.
8 plus stoppage to play with 10. COYG!
Can I just say how much I love this squad?
Well I do!!!!
Feo making 2-0 signs to the silly spuds as he gets carted off 🙂
Jack got a two game suspension for a one finger gesture.
Theo deserves a medal for a two finger version. 🙂
Hopefully not that bad for Theo and the stretch off is only precaution
Theo gives a 2-0 signal on the way off with a huge smile.
Come on Ozil
loving theo…
Tr7 giving gnabry a pat on the back and a gee up talk during the injury break.
Top stuff that lad.
Also deserves a medal
Top man Bac.
We only need 10 men.
Ooooooooooh Ozil
welcome to reality, Sherwood.
Gnabry to ozil
Has a nice ring to it for the future
5mins ET
Clean sheet now boys please
Oooo Mesut
or özil to gnabry, aus.
Ha Ha Ha, they’re absolute tosh
No atmosphere at the emirates my arse!!!!!!!!!
Is Wenger building a WC-ready team for the germans Aussie? 🙂
He tried to stamp on his fingers the cunt!!
Even bette scruz
bentaleb should be off…like the already departed scum…
EAAASSSSSSSY.
there it is!!
We should have started with 10 men and then bring one on later in the 2nd half just to even things up 🙂
SP*RS=CUNTED
Nice work lads.
Very nice
Oh yes! Get back in your swamp now you silly spuds!
😀 what a result..and how good we were today!
Big club, my Arse. Spurs need to spend some f***ing money. Oh…
I’ll be the first to admit that I was a bit worried when I first saw the line up, but my nerves were soon put at ease. Gnarbry was top!!
Poor Theo tho..he really deserved a goal…shown he could be an option in the middle against the teams who are not going to park the bus. So happy for Rosa!
Great Fucking Match. Wonder if the spuds talking shit pre match have the stones to come back.
kozzer or rozza motm for me. really happy with and for serge, and he now has to be in the frame for any given game. thought fabs did well, though his distribution could have been better.
Never in doubt. Felt sure we’d win this. Their manager is Tim Sherwood, lest we forget.
Thought we were superb. Started with virtually a B team and controlled the game for 90 mins. Gnabry sensational, Rosicky superb, Cazorla back into form. Defence were so solid after the first half hour. That’s how we’ll win something this season – we are now fucking tough to score against.
Loved Theo’s exit, and finishing with ten men was the final slap.
Well and truly in our rear view mirrors. Love this team.
COYG
Gnabry didn’t look at all out of place, H2H. A player in the making there.
Props to the defence, especially in the last 20. Both Bac and Nacho had good games and Kos is getting Ozil-esque in being so good at what he does that you hardly notice it.
Well well. Comfortable. Time for a nice rest now.
3 performances stood out for me today. Santi is starting to hit his top form after being just a touch off when he first came back from injury, and it’s lovely to see. Only 2 goals so far, but both were beauties, and both were very important in context.
Tomas, probably my MOTM, worked his tush down to a nub with constant pressing and harrying. Hence the goal when it game was exactly appropriate and thoroughly deserved. Memories of his 3-2 goal vs spurs a couple years ago, and his cathartic celebration running around the back of the goal and swinging his arm. I think we’re all thinking the same thing: Sign him back up Arsene!
And young Gnabry deserved special mention as well. “Dropped little bit physically” in the second half, but he was really special for the first forty-five. Worked hard, and his decision-making and touch were evidence of the enormous potential he has. Several really lovely moments, especially the assist to Cazorla.
The only cloud in the sky is the injury to Feo. He had a big smile as he left the pitch, so let’s hope 9 days off will put him right. I hardly need to remind everyone that forward is the last place we could afford an injury.
Spurs thoroughly cunted though, all the pundits are on now about how comfortable it was. “A stroll” they’re saying. And it was.
Onwards and upwards. A great day to be a gooner. Now for beer
Hahhahah…. they’re talking about theo’s cheeky 2-0 🙂 Brilliant!
COYG hahaha, men this is fun. Sherwood my ass. Get outta of here only one team in London. Everybody say it with me!!!!! ARSENAL.
To Liam, Dave and all you other LWCs from the Swamp, fuck off back there. FIOS.
Big team, yeah right.
Oh and Happy Birthday Ups – consummate timing. 😉
Don’t know what happened to my earlier post – maybe I ran out of substitutions.
Anyway, most of what I said has been said by others. Special mentions for Gnabry, Monreal and Rosicky but this squad has a depth of spirit which is heart-warming to see.
I f I was a Totts fan, I’d be seriously worried – useless and lacking motivation – for a NLD, I ask you. That’s the problem of so many new faces – they don’t appreciate what it means.
Will be anxiously awaiting fitness reports after 3 forced substitutions and finishing with 10 men but for now, COYG.
I really want to see more of Serge. He was outstanding today. Pace, power & pecision
Eeeeasy! Eeeeasy! Eeeeasy! 😀
Well done lads
Fucking get in you Beauty’s 🙂 And to all those that slate Wrighty he showed what it Means to beat them cunts was grinning like a Chesire Cat the fucker 🙂 Absolute stroll in the park that, Loving Sherwood showing the tactical nous of Tottrnham managers past. And special mention to Theo goad em my boy goad em !!
Gnarby has all the makings of a sensational player a big second half of the campaign beckons 😉
Up The Arse!
Other thing I liked about Gnabry was that his pass decision making seemed good. Played a lot of simple passes early enough to be effective.
And agree 100% with all the plaudits for Rosicky. Top performance and perpetual motion. Delighted for him to score.
hahahah really cannot get enough http://arsenalist.com/f/arsenal-vs-tottenham-fa-cup/haha-walcott-makes-2-0-sign-on-stretcher.html
Theos grin during it is so fucking adorable XDD
Great win, put the spuds back in their place. Loved Walcott’s reminder to the spud fans……the whole team played well, defence, midfield and Walcott let the line brilliantly creating room for others to come in like the first goal by Santi……..COYG

A few points:
Dismal phone-in on 5Live. First they had a long go at Paul Lambert for daring to suggest that he’d prioritise the Premier League over the FA Cup. as far as I can make out he pretty much put out a first choice team, who cocked up and went out to a Third Division side (or whatever it’s called this week).
Then, they went on about Theo gesturing at the Sp*d fans, who then charged forward… “What if a child had got injured…” Honestly!
And finally, I guess all the UK-based fans were already watching just before kickoff and that’s why no-one reminded me that the game was live on ITV. I only changed my name, you know – I’m still in Oxfordshire!
Please disregard anything I said earlier that might have suggested otherwise. Never in doubt.
COYG
Brilliant Thomas Vermaelen….LOL
http://metro.co.uk/2014/01/04/thomas-vermaelen-gets-arsenal-mascot-to-hide-tottenham-badge-in-pre-match-photo-4249666/
A good example of how deceiving match stats may be http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/72082000/jpg/_72082973_222e2b5c-8afe-485e-b2f8-ec72bc3dfa34.jpg from this it looks like they were on par with us, which ..as we just witnessed..failed to materialise.
That pile of rubbish better hope they don’t make it into the Champions League
What a laugh.
Mind the gap, Spuds. It’s about 10 years wide. 😉
That was very enjoyable North London Derby. I was so confident of the win, even at 0-0
Hope Feo is OK. We need him
Gnabry- What a fucking talent huh? How does Arsene unearth these gems?
Oxon,
I was complaining about ITV from about 10 minutes in. 😉
LOL this is just getting better and better “Naughty. Nabil Bentaleb aims a stamp at the hand of the prone Nacho Monreal. But misses, which kind of sums Spurs’ afternoon up.” XD
Pic of the day
http://i2.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article2988850.ece/ALTERNATES/s2197/Theo-Walcott-2988850.jpg
Congrats guys. Seemed like the goons wanted it more today, we looked like we was playing in our shell. Arsenal had more quality on the ball that we was lacking, maybe down to your cohesion, better understanding and overall quality. Had to feel for the young lad bentelab, he was out of his depth today against your three man pivot. Second goal was pathetic from Danny, but it was prob deserved as we was holding the ball too long, not as quick moving the ball around like recent games. Arsenal seemed to sit and contain after that, we didn’t have the desire or quality to break you down.
Saying that I have to feel optimistic in the next game at the lane, with super jan, Townsend, sandro and paulinho (hopefully) available I think we my have that extra bit of quality we was lacking today. Arsenal looked like they were leaving some pockets to exploit, we didn’t have the quality to do it today.
Good luck in the next round. Arsegonian….never question my stones.
I don’t think I saw enough today to be fearful of arsenal. Their defending today was there best quality today.
Heh @ TV
I thought the gulf between us and spuds was well illustrated when up 2-0 easily, We brought on one of the best players in the world. 🙂
That Theo injury is most likely to the patella tendon or anterior cruciate ligament, given his momentum and direction as the injury occurred.
That is worst case scenario, and he looked comfortable enough on the stretcher.
Let’s hope 9 days is long enough to get it right – that small but super mobile forward unit was terrific today.
Plan B perhaps.
Heard there was a few twats in here?
North London is ARSE
North London is ARSE
Fuck off you wankers
North London is ARSE!
Only problem I have is that Arteta’s calf cannot hold good for too long these days and he is bound to miss few games along. In Ramsey’s absence it becomes a bit of an issue. Cazorla coming to form is a relief. Not sure how serious Theo’s injury is. We cannot afford to lose him. He really gives us options.
Liam,
Not playing in your shell – more like our shadow. 🙂
Props to you Liam. Hope, despite the result, that you can consider it to have been “A cracking match”.
Next year, maybe 🙂
A couple of twats, yes, Esso@486. Also a couple of fairly reasonable T*ttenham supporters. Never forget that there’s a difference.
Gotta love Roy Keane after the match when asked if the Spuds were right to get angry and throw stuff on the pitch at Theo…
“He’s just telling them the score, there’s nothing wrong with that, Tottenham fans are idiots”
Trev,
If we’re playing in your shadow, I don’t think it’ll be hard to find some light. We was very poor today.
Fair play to you, Liam, for showing up again. You’re classier than your squad 🙂
clearly there is a distinction between some spud fans and their raging cunt of a club. well represented, liam.
Top class from Liam. Respect.
And just to add, if you weren’t fearful today don’t worry: Giroud, Ramsey, Ozil, Podolski and the Ox will all be back to entertain you at WHL. Didn’t really miss our three top scorers today, mind.
Fair play Liam. Looking forward to the derby at the lane already
Ping.
BMBD
Pangloss,
Unfortunately I didn’t enjoy today lol. Mainly because there is so much more quality in this spurs team than they are showing. We are crippled by injuries but I felt a more out right dm was required in the 442 away to arsenal than a kid who’s had 90 mins of prem footie. Thin line between bold and illogical. But, take nothing away, the best team won. When you come to the lane, I hope we can show more spirit than today. This was my biggest disappointment today, it didn’t look like they wanted it as much as the arsenal players.
No ping. Assist?
BMBD
Oh and btw, we can definitely cross Lewa even from our dreams, signed for Bayern for 5 years.
Fair play to you, Liam.
Are you talking to me Trev@479? ARE YOU TALKING TO ME?
What do you think the problem is? Is it actually very difficult to commentate in an impartial fashion? Are Arsenal really completely unlovable to “neutrals”? Are the meejah completely biased in favour of the Sp*ds?
I really don’t know – the 5Live commentators were pretty crap, they did at least say things like “Apart from Eriksen’s shot really early on, Fabianski hasn’t had a lot to do today”, nut it’s impossible to get the tone of absolute disbelief down in writing.
Hey ho.
What’s my name, Trev?
COYG
Go Gunnas. Stomp that shite!
Fabianski’s early save against Eriksen was rather good and an important moment. Great credit to our defense that he didn’t have anything to do afterwards. Koscielny is probably the best defender in Europe right now in terms of aggressive tight-to-the-man defending. It is obvious now that both him and TV5 are best complemented by Per and when Kos and TV5 play together there is always an organizational uncertainty.
What maturity by Gnabry, and great defensive discipline. Nacho was superb as well: clever, poised and going forward very tricky.
Jack slowly grew into the game, Santi was terrific for most part…TR7 always makes us play crisper and sharper. Hopefully he has at least one more season, if not more, with us. None of our other technically gifted midfielders can quite press and quicken up the game like him. A rare combination.
Theo should probably have had a goal, but he ran the channels tirelessly though timing of some of his runs were a bit off. A viable option fown the middle against teams not parking bus.
Respect, liam.
Yes, you have a few players out, but so do we. I’m afraid your boys were outclassed today by a pretty make shift XI. 3 changes at the back, no Ramsey or Ozil in the middle, no recognised CF and a teenager on the wing.
There wasn’t one player in your team that I thought, hey, I wouldn’t mind having him in our team and that’s after a 100 million quid of investment. Saldado was terrible and what on earth have you done with Eriksson? He’s not a left winger, never will be, he’s always thrived in the middle of the park and he’s just being wasted. (not that I mind).
’til next time.
*Phew* One hour reading all your comments. God av missed people here. Anybody here care to reciprocate the feeling?… This has got to be the easiest match we played this season, no?. Second to the Hull game, yh?. Well m glad we won. Kinda makes me wonder if drawing the big teams is an advantage. We brought it on against spurs today. I know we’ll do same against Bayern. Treble to the gooners!!!
Surprised Liam is a Tottenham fan. So much intelligence and wits. A first for the spuds. I salute you. Meanwhile, back @ the emirates…http://pic.twitter.com/on56FnRZLf
Appreciate the compliments guys, see we can get along lol.
Was a harsh draw for this early in the cup, came to soon for us as theo pointed out before the game.
I really do expect an epic at the lane next. We’ve made such an improvement in our play already under Sherwood. Can only improve.
Really disappointed in our fans today though, mindless rage. What they was doing to theo should only be done if your winning! If you gob off with nothing to gob off about your going to embarrass yourself.
Right lads I’ve been nice, anyone want to give me their constructive opinion on our team going forward from this? Sometimes good to get an opinion other than from your own fans.
Eandy.
that was a done deal ages ago.
yes our first 11 usually includes Chezzer, Gibbs, Rambo, Ozil, Giroud. Here’s hoping the derby at the lane will be full strength for both squads. No excuses then …
I fear you’ve come to the wrong place if you’re looking fir sympathy on injury crises Liam. Personally, I think if you have a squad good enough to be able to integrate six new players quickly, then you don’t need six new players. That said, they’ve had half a season to settle in, so it must be frustrating that they haven’t yet.
Do you reckon your club’s establishment will have the patience and good sense to sit tight and wait until they do? I’m not sure that giving AVB the old heave ho is the best sign, but I hope for your sake that I’m wrong.
Feel free to don the flameproof suit and come back any time, and good luck in 17 of your remaining matches.
In case any of my regular readers are beginning to doubt me, and apologies to those that remember me saying this before, it’s such fun beating you twice a season that I’d hate to see T*ttenham relegated – and there seems little risk of that this season. My ideal season has the Sp*ds in the relegation zone right until the last week before avoiding the drop by the tiniest of margins.
COYG
Fair enough, Liam.
If you’re looking for light, you know where to find it.
Yeah old Trafford lol
A good point, Liam@514, and well made. Now piss off back to your swamp, eh?
I’d like to see Spuds in the UCL knockout stage … So we can rip them over two legs. Good luck to you Liam …. respect.
I think, having only spent £100m, Liam, you will avoid relegation.
You want to know what I think?
You’re still shit.
Your name, Oxon ?
Duttlenheim, wasn’t it … Or was that Camberwell ?
It’s like Somerset House in here….. 😉
Compliments to Liam. Better comments than yesterday and you stuck around after the fact.
Trev, I certainly hope you’re wrong re: Theo and the patellar tendon. I tore mine about six years ago, and it took 3 years to feel normal…i am sure the extra 40lbs didn’t help the rehab.
Great performance by the boys today. Very satisfied. Very proud.
Win the next match.
BMBD
I’m arsegonian formerly Duttlenheim … Trev
They are, zico – but at least Liam knows they are. 😉
Holloway,
Ain’t Sagna, merts, kos, mon your starting back line?
So is wilshere and arteta second choice now over Ramsey and ozil? Great depth either way.
We’ve got more to offer, trust me. It was a bad game from us. I thought eriksen done well, his role was difficult today, expected to roam but also cover the fullback. The faces of the spurs players wasn’t right today, confidence isn’t there yet. We need time, but the quality is there. It’s a big job to get these quality players to come out of there shell and believe. When it happens I we will be dangerous.
I was joking Arsegonian. 😉
I know it was done deal ages ago H2H, but only now officialy confirmed.
I wonder how he is going to be managed in the second half of the season.
Signing of Götze just before CL finals is one thing, but having a striker in your squad commited to one of your biggest rivals for few months is another.
Don’t forget ECG, Trev
Usually its Gibbs. Monreal has only played a handful of matches. Also in midfield its been Arteta or Flamini with Ramsey behind Ozil. Wilshere had been playing on the wing while Walcott and Podolski were injured.
It will happen one day, Liam.
One day, Juande …. Oh yeah, he’s gone as well.
Was he the eighth or ninth manager of yours that Arsene saw off ?
just watched both goals again, with the sound on. so pleased that they shut up Stewart robson, left him nothing to say.
Zico,
Very witty mate.
Shame you could only get two (one gift) against such a shit team.
lol Trev … It went way over my head. I’m on 3 hours sleep right now.
Liam.
Since you asked, I believe that Levy holds you back.
Why on earth did he sack Jol? You were actualy starting to look like a threat. He then brought in that One dat geezer, he was pants.
Media darling Arry was up next, he didn’t do that bad either, was actually sacked for reaching 4th, I uunderstand that he fucked up by flirting with the Engand job, but if it wasn’t for rotton luck he would have made the CL twice, that’s what your club are aiming for right?
AvB up next, I always thought he was pretty negative, but still, at the first sign of Barney he was out too. Yes you had a few bad results, but you weren’t that far off of the top 4, but because there was so much money spent he had to go.
I’d like to know how much of that money spent was on players he wanted? was it his team or was it Baldini’s?
That (imho) is another reason you are doomed to fail, a directer of football and a manager combo is a difficult partnership unless the two are singing from the same hymn sheet, I get the feeling that this wasn’t the case at the lane.
Sherwood has at least got you playing with a bit more flair, the way the Spurs faithful want, but he’s sacrificied the defencive solidity in doing so. It was your undoing today and you were absolutly toothless in midfield too. playing a 442 with such a gap between the middle and top was always going to play into our hands, even with a weakened team, it worked against Man U, but that was with Capoue instead of Beatlbub (whatever) and tbh Man u’s midfield are crap, I still can’t believe they beat is.
What to do?
Well at the very least let the manager have a crack, no panic sackings and no adding even more players to a squad that barely know each other already.
Liam – as I posted earlier, I think you have a lot to be concerned about. You have yourself commented on the lack of commitment your team showed today, but there was also a lack of cohesion and direction. Maybe that has something to do with a new manager coming in (whose Dad is a gooner LOL) and wanting things done differently. But Ade always blows hot and cold (guess which one today), Soldado looks out of his depth, your defence looks dodgy, Lennon runs like a girl, Chadli is another waste of money. The only one of the players that were brought in that I rate is Paulinho. Oh, and as I’m in Denmark, maybe Eriksen, who’s an intelligent player with good vision, but I doubt that he is good enough for the Premiership (let’s face it, if he was, Wenger would have bought him) – not enough strength. Haven’t seen Lamela but you paid an AWFUL LOT of money for him. Added to which you have a chairman who has itchy fingers on the trigger and no patience and you need a bigger stadium, which will cost a lot of money while we are just coming out of that period.
So basically, I think Tottenham is up shit creek without a paddle. We’ll slaughter you at WHL.
hahahah gotta love feisty AW talking to a press:
“on being short up front…
We are short because Theo is not very tall! We still have Podolski and Ozil on the bench. Giroud was sick, he was not injured, so for the next game he should be available. Of course if we lose Theo for a longer period, it is a problem.”
Trev,
Arsene is a legend mate. You hold on to him. Not easy this manager business. You find out one day.
Lonestar, re Theo,
He looked comfortable enough on that stretcher, but sometimes a rupture can just go numb. Can’t think it’s that serious but the fact that Colin Lewin ordered a stretcher is a bit worrying though.
We starded with
Fabianski
monreal, kos, TV, sagna.
That would be three changes from
Woj
Gibbs, kos, mert, sagna
BTW Trev, Fucking Hilarious @411
H2H,
I think Levy is shit scared of actually getting into the Champions League.
He should be with that squad.
It could cost them another £100 million if they do. 😉
Eandy.
That kind of thing happens here in the Ere Divisie all the time.
even with managers who know they are going to be at another club in the next season.
Always thought it was fucking wierd.
Cheers Arsey. 😉
That’s Arsegonian, btw.
Another name change, possibly ? 😉
Just back from the pub and back drinking, which took awhile. What more can be said? The lads looked good. I am continuously impressed with Gnabry. Hope Theo isn’t out for too long. Does anyone know if Arteta is injured? It seemed like he signaled to come off.
Nine days off to rest and recover, then back to the league games.
COYG!!
I hope not for fuck’s sake. Went from Phoenix to San Francisco to Portland in 11 months. I’m too tired to leave Oregon.
Adebayor must be so pleased he shat on Arsenal just when they were making a player out of him.
He epitomises every single thing that is wrong with the wrong kind of footballers these days – ungrateful, deluded, greedy, lazy, classless and, actually, not very good.
Hope he looks at his money and cries every day.
Too tired to leave Oregon?
You must be knackered. 😉
Trev, if Ade doesn’t look at his money and cry, he’s welcome to give it to me and cry at the space where it used to be.
Fair play for the opinions guys.
Jol had lost the dressing room unfortunately, one day was a joke but a show of ambition as he was prob the most wanted in Europe at the time, Harry ruined it for himself, thought he’d out grown the club and had to go which was a shame as he did well.
Now for avb, I really liked him but he was too cautious. I don’t think for one minute that baldini and co backstabbed him this is just the media saying we know it all!! They would of all sat round a table and identified the players, baldini’s job is just to get them signed up. Don’t forget, avb asked for a dof and baldini in particular. I’m sure baldini said xyz player is good but I don’t believe for one second he went out to screw avb, he’d only ruin his own rep as a man to identify players.
I am happy with all our signings, I see all the reasons why they signed them, it was just too many at one time. I think all considered they’re doing well, the club isn’t helping. Our position isn’t too bad.
I will reserve the stadium opinions until we know how we are funding it. No one knows yet, joe might just buy it for us! Lol I wouldn’t complain.
Eriksen is only 21 guys, come on he’s class and will get better in this league, being lightweight isn’t always a prob, need to change this thinking in England.
Just a thought, but if it weren’t for oil money I reckon we’d walk the double this season. Well played Arsene.
We were fucking good today.
Theo is accused of inciting the Tottenham fans – Sky Sports.
What about the ones who were giving Bac the finger as he crashed into their advertising with a broken leg, courtesy of Arsehole Eccottu or whatever his name was. Were they offended – poor loves ?
Nothing of course about Dembele’s backward head butt on Jack.
Ade has always been in it for money, lot of players from Africa actually is.
I can understand that to an extent, usually having families back there to whom they wire part of their earnings (Bony for example said that hes doing that even when he used to play for Sparta Prague and you cannot really compare the money he is making now to what he was earning in CZ).
Ultimately, there is no need to act like a cunt during the act of making as much money in football as possible, which Ade really failed to achieve.
He is bell-end, but to be honest I have slight respect for him for being able to continue playing after lot of his national team teammates were wounded or killed in that incident few years ago (and also found the chant “It should have been you” sung during one particular NLD by Arsenal followers utterly classless and disgusting).
Liam,
You could start your stadium improvements right now.
Just turn all the seats round to face the other way. 😉
Oh come on, we just casually dispatched the Spuds once again and now have to read here comments about the inner workings of their dysfunctional club. 🙂
Liam, as our beloved respected champion drinker GoonerTerry used to say, “too bad you made the wrong decision when it came to make one of the most important decisions of your life.” Sorry from a human perspective, empathies and all, but you are stuck in this eternal hell and damnation of being a Spurs fan mon ami. 🙂
You are in good company though, like Salman Rushdie. Brilliant writer. 🙂
I’m not denying any of that Eandy, but he shat on Arsenal long before any of that happened.
He’s always been a greedy, classless Tosser, and he still is.
I’m sure totts were not lacking confidence before kick-off. They got schooled as the game progressed. The look on ‘bayor’s face said it all mid-way through. They actually thought thay had a chance I tell ya. Who wouldn’t after beating ManU @ that place. I can’t count on one finger hw many strikers Kos has pocketed in his career (nd dat list includes Ibrahimovic). He’s a rock that lad… What I’m trying to say is, Tottenham had equal chance to beat us esp. after that eriksen chance. We are just simply the best in the country. THEY GOT SCHOOLED!. And they will again at the lane.
Steve T : DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT?
Liam : The light?
Steve T : DO YOU SEE THE LIGHT?
Liam : What light?
Steve T : HAVE YOU SEEEEN THE LIGHT?
Liam : YES! YES! JESUS H. TAP-DANCING CHRIST… I HAVE SEEN THE LIGHT!
Liam. Get it yet?????
Today should be yet another massive wake up call to those still deluded to think that you are even in the same ball park.
Eandy @ 551: Based on all the reports about how much Ade tries to help him impoverished homeland I am sure there is a more than decent human being in him. And I really have no qualms about footballers — whose professional career is too short — trying to make as much money out of the game as possible, none of us are really much different with respect to our professions.
It is the lack of perspective about their own abilities and the trajectories of their future life as well as a sort of amnesia about past that speaks of the corroding effects of the excesses of that money.
Theo actually got them to say something. He should be commended. They had said fuck all for 80 minutes.
you’re on a roll today trev lol
Toying with that lot then hearing Steve T recite from the greatest film ever made ! May have to put it on now to complete a most enjoyable day 🙂
Who is Adebayor?
My last comment…on one hand sorry. Hehe. The beer is starting to kick in http://pic.twitter.com/BJOmKqVXxj. Y
Nice seeing Sherwood give his dad a wave in the crowd.
Beautiful, just bloomin’ beautiful!
Barn Door his usual lazy, can’t be arsed unless it’s going his way self. Soldado proving what a waste of £30m he is.
And the cherry on the cake, utterly dreadful defending leading to a lovely chipped finish over Slow Lloris by Tomas the Energiser Bunny.
Woo Hoo!!! Wearing a smile on my face, ear to ear!
Steve t,
Enjoy mate, you clearly need this.
My missus is a gooner. I’m going to fuck her in the arse now. Enjoy the pub sunshine.
Bit of a bite Liam???
Once you have enjoyed your anal interlude perhaps you may take the time to sit down and real
…. tesl
Once again – thanks Liam for a civilized conversation.
Sat by a spurs fan in the pub today. Generally worried he was.
Sick to death of Ade and barn door (soldado).
I said give barn door time to adjust he may just come good. Doubt they will tho. And get shot of Ade asap.
The rest of their squad is just not very good.
Generally excited about the result wih a make shift side. Gnabry looks a real talent.
Im off- cheers all. Well done the arsenal.
Ah, Liam reverts to type. 🙁
Yes it was a bite because you’ve been fishing for one for ages.
That’s why I wrote ‘you clearly need this’
That’s what happens when you try to type on the train.
What I was trying to say was that perhaps you will then sit down and realise that the gap is a lot larger than you want to believe. It bothers me not a jot where you think you are but others above are right. You will never progress whilst you have Levy pulling the strings. You will continue to play catch up until you can sort out your ground and get a chairman that does not hit the panic button.
Football is a universal language. I do quite a bit if travelling. A large part of the football community is laughing at your ineptitude. One day, you will see that.
Enjoy your botty sex. My guess is that you are not normally that gender specific.
Liam @565,
At least there’s no chance of you breeding that way. 😉
Eandy @551, every single professional footballer plays football to make a living off it, some of them really love playing the game but I don’t for one second think any of them will play one season for free. Every family that produces a professional footballer gains from the over-inflated salaries these footballers earn in one way or the other, except of course if the footballer is a stingy bastard, it is not exclusive to African players.
I agree with you though that there’s no excuse for behaving like a cunt like Adebayor naturally does.
Homer. It was two makeshift sides in a cup game. You was at home and in the best form for 5-6 years. We’ve lost our manager, have 7 new players and started with a kid also. I wouldn’t read too much into it.
Liam your wife is a gooner, your best mate a gooner …. typical spud living vicariously eh?
we never read too much into pounding that pathetic lot. 😉
Trev, she’s a gooner, there’s a 50/50 chance the kid would become a gooner. Can’t risk it lol
Serge Gnabry vs Spurs: 38 passes, 87% pass accuracy, 6 key passes, 3 accurate through balls, 2 dribbles, 5 tackles, 1 interception.
Gnabry and Chambo (assuming they stay fit) are going to rip PL defenses apart in the upcoming decade along with Zelalem, Crowley, Apkom, Joel Campbell, Belerin. The future is bright. We have the best young players in the league, as always.
As for the older players, Rosicky wining the title with Arsenal would be the dream come true for me. Come on Arsene, what’s the waiting for, they both deserve that juicy new contract.
Liam. All I have been trying to do is remove your blinkers. You seem a sensible sort of chaps that has sadly been taken in by the Levy bullshit.
Look at it this way. You spent 110 million in the summer, you sack your manager and now have a self confessed Arsenal man in charge who has absolutely no managerial experience. Remember the remark I made about spurs fans and Geordies??? Remember when Ashley appointed Shearer???
Liam, if you’re happy then good luck to you. I admire you loyalty even if it is somewhat misguided. However it would appear that Mrs Liam is not the only one getting fucked up the arse.
Hehe. Trev is on a roll!
Who’s Adebayor?
Arsegonian,
Yeah it’s tough on days like this but I’m not that fussed. When we win I don’t say a word, just bath in the silence of misery.
Steve T too.
Steve t,
You can’t compare Sherwood to shearer. He’s a pundit! Sherwood has aided in building one of the most strongest academies in England. He got the job on merit. Not strange dilusions of saviours! Come on, we may be your rivals but we’re not northern!
Just back from the game. I was waiting for a Sp*rz team to turn up but they never did. I laughed so much that the tears were running down my leg. Big club – my arse. I feel sorry for anyone who chose to follow those muppets. But then that’s natural selection for you. I believe they are having their end of season party tonight.
THMBD
Too easy.
Champions in May.
One of the strongest academies??????
I can’t wait for the long list if names to follow.
Let’s be honest Liam, if it was that good you would not have spent 110 million in the summer??? Or have I missed something yet again?!
Liam @574,
If I may correct, I think you got one or two word in the wrong order.
Should have read – ” we’ve lost 7 managers, have our new players” etc etc.
Just sayin ……. 😉
Who’s Sherwood?
Liam @584,
” Sherwood got the job on merit.” Oh dear, oh dear.
Liam, he’s the only man in football who hadn’t had the job yet.
SSY, he’s Adebayor’s mate ! 😉
Listening to delusional people like Liam – well-meaning though may be – can be quite funny for a while.
Then it just gets boring.
True, dkg – I’m out.
Liam, great that you came back to hold your hands up, but now you are showing the typical spud mettle: saying the wrong thing (ie, “spurs will one day overtake arsenal”) again and again and again (ad nauseum) won’t make it come true.
Thank you Trev.
I thought no one will help me.
Steve t,
You clearly don’t know. Our academy is thriving. You want names:
Livermore, Townsend, Carroll, caulker, bentelab, Kane. All playing prem footie. Not to mention sort after talents like coulthirst and Pritchard out on loan. Tore barca apart. Should of one the league by a country mile if it want for some stupid play off rule for 1st and 2nd. They were like 20 points clear, why do ya need a play off but that’s another topic.
Do you know anything beyond the tip of your nose? You’ve got arse tinted specs on mate. Our academy done yours a number of times. There is a myth about how good yours is I think. How many arsenal academy players are playing prem football?
Trev,
So pep guadiola shouldn’t of got the barca job after his good work in the academy set up?
Oh dear. Such serious and persistent delusions require very heavy medication. Tim Sherwood the next Pep Guardiola? Barca will be beating a path to his door as we type. 🙂
Bang
The tottenham academy … ?
Oh. Thats so nice you have one. Who knew … ?
Hahaha !!!!!!’
When did I say we will overtake you?
I’ve come with rational argument, and ignored a lot of arrogant delusional talk of arsenal being the benchmark but all I’ve got is silly wind up merchants. Not the articulate bunch you talk yourselves up to be after all.
Liam, two things about your academy;
First, none of the players you mentioned are exceptional talents. Compare them with Ashley Cole, Wilshere, Gibbs, Szczesny or even 18yr-old Gnabry who has as many EPL goals as Andros Townsend and you might understand.
Secondly, our youth teams basically plays players in age grades 2-3 years above their age so it’s more about player development and less about results.
Just you wait. Next season Sp*rz will be championship challengers with their new new manager, their new stadium, their new players and Daniel Levy pulling new strings. Next season it’ll all be different. Year on year they’re leaving Arsenal behind. *chuckles*
Disgraceful bunch really. Very arrogant. At least I know where my club stand.
Liam. Are you genuinely comparing guardiola and Sherwood??? Did you really say that????
“You clearly don’t know. Our academy is thriving. You want names:
Livermore, Townsend, Carroll, caulker, bentelab, Kane.”
My apologies Liam. All were outstanding today. Surprised that with that record that Sherwood was not offered the job before AVB.
Deluded??????? Get it yet?????
For someone who first appeared as articulate I must say, you really are not that bright are you???
Cent, you didn’t tell me anything about our academy?
Cole was years ago. I wouldn’t call shitknee and Gibbs ‘exceptional’. One is an accident waiting to happen, the other hasn’t done anything. Wilshere is decent I’ll give you that, but needs to tame that short man syndrome, he’s lucky big mousa didn’t treat him like the small man he is.
Cent, our academy does the same thing. Results come from talent.
Lots of laughs above.
When it all finally clicks at Spurs it’s going to be GLORIOUS. Just wait and see. This is all just part of Levy’s master plan.
Liam. The problem is that clearly you don’t. You have bought into the Levy propaganda and are in so deep that you can’t see a way out.
I think I’ll go to bed. This guy is bringing out the worst in me. Just deleted another questionable post – before pressing the Submit button this time.
Sweet dreams guys.
When did I compare Sherwood to pep?
I just pointed out that by your logic pep shouldn’t of got the job. I likened the situation, not the men.
I also asked for players that came from your academy playing prem footie? Ive had one from the early nineties, the obvious one wilshere and the polish guy and Gibbs. I wouldn’t call it a production line
Off to watch the highlights and play spot the Tottongham Academy graduates. Nytol.
If we’re going to have a serious discussion about Spurs young talent, the conversation surely has to begin with Danny Rose.
Played today like someone who really gets what the club is all about.
I wrote a couple of weeks ago that BFG’s quality to read the game is not mentioned enough. It should be praised more because everyone else is shite at it.
A couple of weeks ago the example was Skrtel getting drawn to the ball on Negredo’s goal.
This week it’s Danny Rose on Santi’s goal.
He is looking at Sagna and only Sagna and not realizing that Gnabry pulled away from inside and is in acres of space.
Once again, poor defensive play.
I bath, you’ll see one playing centre mid, one at left back, two or three on the bench.
@ Snir
Of all the players in our squad, Mert is the one I fear an injury too the most.
He’s a leader on the pitch, he sets the tone for distribution from the back and is the rock on which our defence is built. He is essential to our title push, even more than Giroud. He reads the game better than any defender in England right now.
One of the best pieces of business Arsene has done in years, and the perfect partner for Kos.
Wait, Spurs had people playing at left back and central midfield today?
Players from our academy??? Just off the cuff. Wilshere, Gibbs, Shezza, Gnabry just from today. Others? Clichy, Thomas, Bartley, Senderos, Sidwell, Harper, Briton, Lansbury, Anelka…… All still playing in the too two divisions. Don’t forget the likes or Ricketts and perhaps the best of all, David Bentley.
Liam, you are deluded beyond all recognition. Enjoy being had over and don’t forget to wash the shit off of your knob.
N7 @ 617,
Easily the best post so far this year mate….!
The man is a colossus and is absolutely indispensable.
Liam,
You started off fine and got very reasonable responses.
Now you just keep moving the goal posts – if you remember what they are – and have become a bore. This is no longer debate – just tedious repetition.
You would love everyone to agree that you are going to be better than us, but we all know it ain’t going to happen.
Btw, if you do remember what the goal posts are, you might like to remind Old Sado, sorry, Soldado. 😉
N7 – It’s become an epidemic in the PL. Nobody is taking notice of runner’s movements. Everybody is looking at the ball.
It’s ludicrous really.
Liam,
I think you had peoples attention up until you brought your wife into the discussion. At that point, you certainly left her down, whatever about yourself…!
I was very happy when we signed the BFG, i remember stating my excitement on these very pages.
C’mon guys, give it a rest now. We all enjoy playing “Bait the Spud” and tonight seems a better day to do it than most, but let’s try and hang onto a little dignity.
Liam’s come into our house and behaved himself pretty well, but he’s getting slapped down by Gooners coming at him in waves. Sooner or later he’s going to say something really stupid that he’s really going to regret saying in the morning – something even more unpleasant than he’s already said.
At base, he supports his club and he thinks they’re doing things right and, but for one or two things that will come right real soon now, they’d be sweeping the world before them. Is that really any different from us? Sure, we’re right and he’s wrong, and in our case rather fewer things need to come right, but otherwise?
To Liam, I’d say, “You’ve held your end up well enough but you look as though you’re on the point of disgracing yourself. Make a couple of snarky points and withdraw. You’ll have been beaten off by half-a-dozen Gooners who have sharpened their ‘debating style’ on each other during the last close season. And you were on your own. There’s no disgrace in that. Hard luck about tonight’s game, and good luck in the Thursday night competition.”
Certainly was for me, Joe.
Stupid, basty comment. Lost me right there.
Basty = nasty. 🙁
Liam, what Trev said.
What Joe said too.
Pangloss, it’s like taking candy from a baby. There isn’t one sensible or rational point. Let him play if he wants to. He might actually say thank you at the end of the day.
The “wife” thing was pretty poor, but I can understand Liam wanting someone else to feel the way he must have during that second half, even if she is imaginary.
Drinks at the 628 and a big session
@ 629 drinks still 2 nil to the arsenal
Amazing
Liam, I’d say you’ve been treated pretty respectfully in here on the whole, given that you’re A SPUDS FAN IN AN ARSENAL BAR ON THE DAY OF THE DERBY. What did you expect, kisses? Converts? FFS…
The rest of us, let’s elevate our game a little bit. Why have we let this guy railroaded the entire fucking thread? And why do we have to be so adamant about our club’s credentials? Aren’t they obvious enough already?
Now let’s talk about the Arsenal shall we?
I really enjoyed this short video. Gnabry vs Sp*ds.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCPUXlgIv5c
This was the first game this season when I have been confident of the result after the first 15 minutes … just a matter of how many.
And AW clearly had no doubts either, making his first sub about 30 minutes earlier than usual. And even playing out the last 15 minutes with ten men wasn’t a problem.
TR7 was my motm, with honorary mentions for Gnu, Kos, Nacho and Theo. An excellent goal from Santi, but once again I saw little else from him and less even from Jack. Even so our midfield dominated a wretched Spuds, whose manager seemed to completely lose the plot (if he ever had one) when subbing a defender for a striker after going two down. How was that supposed to work Tim?
Oh, and in answer to whoever it was who asked if I was a Spuds fan … LMFAO. I’ve been a gooner since 1950 mate. And if I am more critical about our players it’s because I don’t give a shite about anyone else’s.
Öskar
Just in, what a great day for Gooners. I thought the Spuds were disappointingly poor, they had nothing left for the last 18 mins when we were reduced to 10 men.
Theo missed a host of chances for the second match running but at least made the runs and got himself into scoring positions. Young Gnabry caught the eye with his pacey runs and intelligent use of the ball, TR7 was all action, we all went bananas when he scored, couldn’t have happened to a more popular player.
Santi looks back to his best and Kos was absolutely mega and my MOTM. He was everywhere across the back line.
Worrying were the three further injuries to important players, Arteta, TV5 and Theo. Let’s hope they don’t turn into the Arsenal 3 Week sagas and all are ready to go on Monday week, fingers crossed. The King’s Lynn Gooners had a very jolly journey home, here’s to another home draw in the 4th round.
SSY: You had me cracking up.
Adebayor was the player who appeared at the end of the game when Kos let him out of his back pocket. LOL!
How did I know if I took Mrs. Arsegonian to dinner I’d come back to Spuds talking shit again? You can’t help themselves, our noisy neighbors. Listen, You’re a quaint little club. You’ll never be Arsenal no matter how hard you try because when you grow so does the Arsenal. Just accept your lot and worry about comparing yourselves to West Ham. They beat you to the Olympic stadium and spanked you at Shite Fart Lane. That’s your direct competition. Good luck attempting to secure European football this season. Good luck in the Europa league as well. You might win it too. After all, Thursday is Spursday. 🙂
Ugh … Yourselves … I need a nap. Goodnight everyone!!!!
Lurky, N7 – Can y’all DM me please?
Bless his little heart. 😉
“It’s hard to get quality players to have self belief”
Really? Hard for top class professional athletes to believing in themselves? Hahaha um…. No, it’s not. If spuds haven’t gelled yet, they aren’t going to this year, especially if you keep changing managers.
You wasted the Bale money. Should have put some of that away for your new stadium, but you screwed that up too. Too late to ask for a refund.
Only consolation is Erikson will be a good player, that is if you use him properly and don’t sell him to Madrid in a few years.
At least you look good against FC Sherriff and teams from above the arctic circle.
😉
Re: Lurky @634. It looks like a man toying with the boys, but the “man” is a boy himself. Gnabry is a fucking player.
Just got home. It’s 03.03 in the morning here as I start typing this up. I am suitably drunk. Been out all day, left at 11 in the morning so in other words I’ve been out and about for pretty much 16 hours if my math skills haven’t deserted me along with my sobriety. And it’s been a fucking awesome day!
Anyway. We totally dominated the spuds from start to finish and apart from the chance that Kos gave Eriksen they had the grand sum of fuck all in the way of chances. And their saviour, the man who is a disciple of the genius (according to his chums at the Daily Fail, that is) ‘Appy ‘Arry lined up with the most rigid 4-4-2 you’ll ever see which gave us a constant advantage in midfield and if there is anything to complain about tonight it is that we didn’t score more goals.
A few other notes:
Gnabry is a serious talent.
Theo tears opposing teams to shreds if they play anything remotely similar to a high line. Just a shame he couldn’t convert one or two of his chances today.
A solid display by Fabianski, he didn’t have much to do but did what he had to do and didn’t overdo stuff.
Rosicky is fucking ace. What a goal!
I’m sure there were more clever things to say but now I am off to bed. Back-drinking will be done tomorrow. Up the Arse!
I cant sleep well tried to! Great evening well late afternoon at The World of football!
Thanks to the Guv my seat was in the Clockend and it was fucking rocking! Every song you name it! Shame I drove to London but I think I enjoyed it and remembered most of it! 🙂
Great to see all the Holics in the The Tollie before the game! Gold Bless You all! What a great bunch of people! Hats off to you all!
About the game? Well I’m sure the Guv will spill the beans but as Lars said above they had fuck all to say!
Theo smile was just priceless………….nothing to add here!
As Steve T said fuck em….. we will do em fuck even though Flappy is goal!
Come on Arsenal!
I think it’s time to call Koscielny by what he is.
The best CB in the world.
He’s got everything.
Pace, strong in the tackle, awareness, anticipation, and most of all footballing brain exemplified by his covering of Nacho on Soldado’s dragged shot or when Eriksen broke free which caused Eriksen to hold and wait for support.
Oh, and add calmness to that list of attributes. I know he gave away some penalties, but just look at how he deals with the most dangerous pass in football – the cutback and you’ll see his calmness. He doesn’t just hack it away but kills it dead and starts an attack for us.
Anyone disagreeing will point to a couple of mistakes but if you find a player who doesn’t make mistakes please tell me who he is. Also, on the whole, his play has given us more points than his mistakes cost us.
There truly isn’t a better one. Ramos? 18 career red cards show that’s not the case.
Thiago Silva? A good CB but I’m not sure he’ll cope with the best strikers like Kos did (Messi, Lewa, Suarez et al.).
Hummels? Another Pique. A CB who has an enhanced reputation based on the club he plays for.
Kompany? Fantastic but injury prone.
Laurent Koscielny – best CB in the world.
Snir! Top Man Top Marks Top Koscielny!
Off to bed again… night all

Pato liking Arsenal pics on his Instagram…
Snir: I concur. Kos just pockets the best forwards in the world without fuss or fanfare.
Kos is the boss!
Snir, until Kos grows a jheri curl I’m still on the fence as to his TCB abilities 😉
Kos is improving all the time, Snir, but I’m yet to be convinced he’s got the mis-timed sliding-tackle-in-the-area completely out of his system. I’ve thought Kompany is the Premier League’s best for a while and see no reason to bypass him just yet. I’ve also seen commanding performances by Thiago Silva and Giorgio Chiellini elsewhere that suggest they have the edge on Kos … but I’ve simply not seen enough of them to be categoric.
What isn’t in doubt is the dramatic improvement in Kos’s game in the last two seasons. He’s really come into his own.

watching from sydney at 0500 this morning am sure i saw a esso banner during the game???.
when you watch the spuds you have a bit of nerves as they cannot remain poor………then they suprise you again….

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaTOK1mwnkU
Not the best quality-wise, but seeing Rosicky pat Gnabry and Walcott taunt the sp*ds in the same clip makes me grin like a kid on christmas.
sydneyred I saw that esso banner too…when they were carrying theo off. blink and you miss it, though.
Good morning hölix,
Wow! Over 650 drinks on a fucking lovely NLD? How did I miss the party? Anyways, thumbs up to all gooners( on and off the pitch ) for the new year present.
If you don’t enjoy NLD, ‘you need a check up from the head up’. What a coining of words from the Guv’nor.
Upwards and Onwards, may the blazing cannons never cease. Now to Villa park for their burial.
COYGs!
Early morning match for us Sydney folk- scruz and Sydney red.
Well worth the 4.10 am kick off.
Seems like some of our fellow gooners have had a big night , Lars signing off at 3 am. Nice effort Lars.
Would also be remiss of me no to mention the 5-0 ashes clean sweep in the cricket , also finishing in Sydney today.
A great day for sport in Sydney all round.
Hey Snir – where do you want the DM, per 640? If twitter, you need to follow me first: @blankwater1978.
Good on you Aussie! It was one late night too much for me this time…really love early kickoffs..
Well in feng.
My favourite match of the last few seasons I think.
Just watched the replay in more relaxed environment and still in awe at the speed and quality of our play.
Gnabry – wow what a game. Looked even better the second time viewing.
Morning all, and what a beautiful morning it is.
A great performance against the North London wannabes. Some great performances and great to meet up with some fellow holics before and after. All in all a very satisfying day.
Off for a spot of egg chasing with the lad and then back for a good old catch up.
Morning all. Woke up with a smile on my face. Best memories from yesterday off the pitch:
1) Theo’s V-sign
2) H2H’s rechristening of Soldado @ 373
3) Trev’s suggestion for ground improvements at WHL @ 552
4) Arthur’s link @ 648.
Have a nice day.
Going for the 666.
Just watched the reply with a couple of glasses of Aussie Pinot Gresio
Even better
Gnarbry so strong
No takers on Defoe?
hah Lurky ..number of the beast is mine! Χ Ξ Σ !
…or not:(
666?
\m/ !
Sydney red – after that performance i am starting to see what arsene has been waiting so patiently for.
Defoe is quick and sharp, bit we already have theo and Gnabry to fill the quick and sharp game, OG to fill the back to the defense lay off man and a midfield that is on fire and playing so well togeather and a very solid back line.
I can’t help but think the only thing we may need is to dust off the trophy cabinet.
Well in Eändy.
I always knew there was a bit of the dark side about you :).
RIP Eusebio 🙁
Now that was fun, wasn’t it?
Can we play you every week?
Well in Eandy.
Sydneyred, having just finished watching the reply myself, I can confirm it, Gnabry is so strong.
The game itself reminded me a lot of Liverpool at home earlier in the season. And it’s not just the because the result was identical. The opposition tactics in both games was a suicide and we took advantage of that.
Like Liverpool, the Totts played 4-4-2, not sitting deep defensively, using medium high defensive line, allowing their midfielders to come close to ours and try to press us. Stupid if you ask me, because of the pace we got in attack and ability to control and not lose the ball in midfield. Their plan was to target Wilshere, because of his tendency to over-complicate and get himself into cul-de-sacs. It nearly payed out for them early on, as Jack made his trademark run into three opposition players, losing the ball in the process, allowing them to counter. He need to stop doing that, next time better opposition and we are punished.
In both games their attackers were isolated, with Adebayor and Suarez in the game only in patches and Soldado/Sturidge invisible. Once again it is evident that strikers of Soldado and Sturidge callibre can’t and actually won’t press. They sort of save their energy for sprints and abandon tactical orders from their coaches.
(This is where Walcott’s improvement is most evident this year. Theo, somehow learned to cover ground when defending and learned to carefully choose when and where to press and when to pull back. I am very surprised, because I thought he will never learn that).
Both of the teams employed their best creative player Coutinho/Eriksen, as a LW, instead of opting to use them in the hole at the expense of one of the forwards.
Eriksen is not a bad player. However, compare him to Cazorla and you will spot the difference between not bad and quite good player. Cazorla was just magnificent. Not just in attacking areas, but in defense. One of the areas where Cazorla is most improved from last year is his defensive contribution. He is tracking back, running like mad, covering ground, winning duels. Complete player.
What surprised me most, was that Sherwood did not utilize the fact that we didn’t had tall CF and order their defenders to sit back, tight the middle and leave us the flanks free to make harmless crosses to Walcott, or to pass the ball from one to the other side of the pitch, losing the ball in the process and then hit us on a counter (Maureen’s way).
He in contrary, just like Rodgers, chose to try to overplay Arsene who used this game as the first lesson for his new student.
Due to the piss awful Scottish TV and the piss awful broadband connection I missed all the fun other than seeing the goals. Waiting for the tell- tale beep on the phone is deeply nerve- wracking but looks like we were well in control. There really is a chasm between the clubs again after Bale’s departure. Lovely that Gnabry has come of age in such a big game and further proof that TR7 is top quality. Sign him up Arsene!
I return home to Gooner Land today.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Still in recovery mode from a super birthday yesterday (thanks for your wishes)…..no guessing what was the highlight for me. ‘Twas a superb team performance…all 14 players put in 100 % effort with only one outcome likely – cream always rises to the top. Its great to see we have another big talent breaking through in Serge Gnabry….to think he is only 18, what a future beckons for him.
Hopefully TR7 & BS3 will be given new contracts…warriors both of them.
As for the media induced furore over Theo’s gesture..what a load of bollox. It was a gentle reminder of the score done with a smile on his face….magic.
Fastidious response in return of this matter with genuine arguments and telling the whole thing about that.
