A Tents Time For The Corporal
May 1st, 2014 by 'holic
I don’t know about you, but if I had been given the opportunity to camp out on the Highbury pitch back in the sixties I would have jumped at the chance. The place was my second, or perhaps I should say my spiritual, home. They were different times, and trust me, the Highbury playing surface at the end of the season back then would not have had much grass left on which to pitch a tent, or several.
Fast forward to the present day, and once again the club are offering the opportunity for the kids of today to experience a wonderful night out at the Grove.
Arsenal will be inviting 400 members of its young supporter scheme the Junior Gunners to camp out overnight at Emirates Stadium at the end of the season. The youngsters will have the chance to play football on the pitch before sleeping out on the Arsenal turf on Friday 23 May.
With just a month to go until the big day, right-back Carl Jenkinson dressed up a tent in Gunners colours to get the young fans in the mood.
A boyhood Arsenal fan, Jenkinson covered his bedroom in club memorabilia when growing up, and applied a similar touch to his tent at the Gunners’ London Colney training ground. The defender peppered the tent with Arsenal items, with Arsenal gnomes in the entrance and Arsenal shirts, posters and pennants hanging from the side. There was also an attempt to apply the Arsenal wallpaper from his old bedroom to the walls of the tent.
Carl said: “I’d have loved the chance to camp out overnight on the Arsenal pitch growing up so it’s great the club are giving young Gooners that chance. I’m not sure what the groundsmen thought of me pitching up a tent on the training pitches, but I hope my decorating skills give the Junior Gunners some ideas for their campsite!”
If any of your kids and grandkids have got the invite I know they will have a great time. I suspect the ground will resound to more giggles than when Tottenham visited in September and January.

Has no one criticised Arsenal for their awful PR and the way they have allocated Cup final tickets. It is an insult to its fans, a complete kick in the teeth to season tickets holders.
And the web site is terrible.
Why should away fans get preference, when we bought season tickets years ago we were not told we were second rate!
Since then we have had days of play and kick off times shifted whether it was convenient or not for us.
Now we are told Away fans get preference!
Why do Premier league clubs allow the FA to only issue about 25000 tickets to participating clubs? And keep 40000 for FA cronies.
Why does the premier league go for the League Cup and play reserves in the FA cup!
Why have MPs sat back and allowed clubs to treat their fans so disgracefully. In any other business the Consumer bodies would have interfered, why has Football Clubs been allowed to do as they like?
no one, sj.
it’s all arsene’s fault, surely.
Positive news indeed cba,
Keep keeping those steers in check. 🙂
s j little: away fans, possibly with the odd exception, also go to home games so I think it’s perfectly reasonable to give them preference.
yup zico

the world needed wilko

sj little – believe it or not, it’s a vast improvement on the past when the fans of the finalists got far a far smaller proportion of tickets for the final. One of the Arsenal blogs recently reviewed the history of allocations since the 30s. It is still ridiculous – more so such a high proportion of the allocation to the ‘football family’ end up with touts.
If Wolfie is there, as expected, for a bit of camping, anyone sleeping in a tent is strongly advised to make sure they don’t leave their flaps open 😉
Jenks is truly one of us.
Makes you proud.
All thes people whining about tickets – it is it not the club that has chosen t give us a small amountif tickets. Direct your ire where it is deserved. The idiot FA. THEY SET THE ALLOCATION.
If you have crap life, that’s sad. But don’t take it out on the club.

Boss didn’t mention Diaby in his fitness updates! and what’s the deal with Gnabry? after some really positive appearances, Boss seems to have sidelined him? yet he keeps giving Sanago game time…
Pedant from previous drinks.

On a positive note,my Sister and Nephew have got their tickets for the Final.
Turns out my Brother missed out on the Ballot, but got his from a Gooner mate who booked a Cruise 6 months ago which departs the day before the Final.
Obviously his mate is an Optimist. Not.!!
Peter,
Gnabry is listed on physioroom dot com as having a knee injury, with no return date.

Camping out on the Emirates turf sounds like its gonna be fun for those Junior Gunners (wish I started going to games before it became too late to become a JG, I’d be well on my way to Silver Membership now!), the club truly does do good work in reinforcing positive memories outside of matchdays for the next generation of Gooners that are gonna be shelling out their hard-earned cash to watch the mighty Arsenal in the near to far future.
On another note, I wish the club would hurry up and announce ticketing info about their supposed plans to screen the FA Cup Final game at the Emirates, coach ticket prices aren’t staying constant ffs… *frowns*
Before I forget, my belated condolences on your mother’s passing Trev, and my condolences to you bt8b for your mother’s current situation. All the best to both of you gents right now.
My sympathy on your bereavement, Trev. Mums are special. Unlike wives, which you can have as many of as you like (or can stand), you only get one mum. And regardless how you turn out they will stand by you forever. Unlike some wives.

Did I really just see a bunch of dancing chimps on my telephone?
Wow, when I first started out writing ‘Windy Epics’, I was hitting 5.8k words conservatively pre edit. Now I barely average 2.3k words. I’m struggling in my old age, and the magic of the Blackberry has left my fingers (if you know, you know) 😉
With age comes wisdom.
Sometimes. 😉
Heh @ Clive.
Heh zico 😉
This truly is a remarkable site. Who would ever have predicted that our very own pet troll would evolve far enough to acquire initials?
Keep on keeping on ‘Holics.
COYG
Wind: I think you can go ahead and book your bus tickets. If for some reason you can’t get a ticket for the screening at the stadium you can always watch the match down the pub.
Thanks Wind, Oskar.
Wind @31 – “I’m struggling in my old age, ….”
We were struggling in your young age. 😉
Wind,
It seems Lars will be watching the Final down the pub – unless he gets lumbered with a ticket to the stadium. 😉
Work beckons – have a good one, Holics. 😉
Trev: well, I will watch it down the pub but not a London pub though 🙂
Trev@19: Thanks for the update on Gnabry. Where did he suddenly pick up a season ending knee injury from? Getting off the bus at Finsbury Park? Amazing our injuries but still not as amazing as Rooney’s sudden injury because he doesn’t want Van Gaal appointed as manager lol. But don’t worry Woy, he’ll be fit for the World Cup!
Anyway, I would definitely sleep better if Everton could manage to lose tomorrow!
Have a good one ‘holics 🙂
Ok, so last week I wanted Chelsea to beat Pool because I am tired of Brenda, but this week, I really want to make sure Maureen doesn’t win any silverware at all, so who to root for? Why does it have to be so confusing? 🙂
Peter – Simple, root for City to beat Everton. They will do us a favour too.
That’s what I’m doing. But I actually am not really rooting for them. They just need to do it for themselves!! 😆
Goonertown@42: the oil sheikhs really need to win tomorrow to do us a favour otherwise I will be going to my first Emirates game ever on Sunday -yayyyyy – with a squeaky bum in case we lose or even draw – I really want my first Ems game to be a win but it will all be so much more enjoyable if we are assured of 4th to begin with. Yes, I guess between the 3 best to root for the sheikhs to win the league.
There are excellent reasons to want none of the top three to win the title, in order of current league position:
Liverpool: Their fans are incredibly obnoxious; Suarez; Gerrard
Chelsea: They are floating on a sea of oil money; Mourinho; Terry; Mourinho; Mourinho
Man City: They are floating on a sea of oil money; Na$ri
Of the three, I am actually most worried in the long term about Man City. I nurture the hope that Liverpoo will not be able to cope with actual expectations over a whole season, particularly one in which they have European committments and maybe worse than average numbers of injuries. I nurture the hope that one day Abramovich will get bored with playing with his toy and will leave, taking his enormous wallet with him. I am very concerned that the oil sheiks, who traditionally think in the very long term, are there for the long haul, they are already pushing ahead with very ambitious plans for the club that will give them a huge boost in any battle for hearts-and-minds. The best chance of polluting their porridge is FFP and that’s a very precarious hope.
Anyway, I have great confidence the the Arsenal, who I believe are capable and almost a good bet to win every remaining match until their league position is determined.
I’d like the top three to lose every game they play between now and the end of the season, which woild see us nicely into third, at worst. No, I don’t think it’s going to happen, but the part of the scenario that breaks down will be the other bastads winning, not us losing. We will finish above Everton and we can do that through our own efforts.
COYG
Peter – we lost to West Brom a few seasons ago. The place was like a funeral that day. We haven’t lost to the buggers ever since. I cannot see Sunday being any different. But hey, we cannot rest upon our laurels. A nice convincing show for our final home game of the season which is also being televised, will round things off nicely.
But yes, the Oilly mits beating the Toffees and then Palace smacking the Scousers with Maureen staring in the middle, should round the weekend of nicely.
😆
We will win and Everton will lose, even if they dont, all we need is to win sunday and 4th is done.
The camping outside Emirates is a grand idea and it will be such a thrill for the young ones, wish i can be there to.
Shrek crying not wanting Van Gaal to come to OT, hahha because he feels threatened that the dutch cunt will be made the nucleus of the team again, i love to see that team suffer.
I know Vinay. But wouldn’t it be great if we could have at least one season wihtout any sounds coming from the scousers, the Chavs as well as the Mancs?
It would be like a season long sunday afternoon… 😆
Peter@40: Gnabry was injured playing for the under-21’s.
I see that Chuks Aneke, on loan at Crewe, is their top scorer with 16 goals. Nice to see one of the youngsters go out on loan and make a fist of it, even if it is only in League 1. Don’t forget, Chezza got his breakthrough at Brentford, who have just got promotion.
Aneke is only 21 so let’s hope he can show something pre-season. LANS.
A small addition re Chuks. He’s just coming back from a red card, having elbowed a Wolves player. Who wouldn’t?
Is it a fist or an elbow? I’m confused. 😉
Oh, yeah………… *BOILK*
Peter,
So what is Rooney’s injury ?
Maybe he’s got Gaal stones. 😉
Or he’s afraid going dutch will cost him.
Hi holics hope all are well, just wanted to send a belated condolences to trev.while I’m here I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the cesc situation if he goes to Man U or city I’d be well pissed.surely he wouldn’t? I’ve heard we have a buyback first refusal clause we’d have to take him back, personally I’d kill arsene if he came out with the chestnut of not killing somebody’s career, you can never have enough quality players.
Thanks, Garsguns.
One word of advice – if you’re going to actually kill someone, it’s probably best not to put it on the internet first. Just sayin’…… 😉
🙂 guess I’d never make a hitman Trev!
You want to play for us Eden? A team that plays football and a manager who would actually support you and not criticize you in public?
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/27258633
Wasn’t we after Eden Hazard for a really long time?
I’m sure we were, he was linked with us for years, I remember specificaly because I always thought he had a cool name, unlike another of those always linked to targets Blaise Matuidi, which I thought sounded a bit poncy.
H2H @ 58: Yes, we were. In a recent interview to BeIN sports Arsene even admitted having his agent over at his home (I think that is a rarity, Arsene at home? :-)) to discuss. Chelsea’s offer to Lille and to Hazard was just way too high. The season we got Gervinho Arsene had tried to get Hazard as well but Lille knew they have a big ticket player and held off for one more season for a lot of money.
I don’t really like him that much anymore now that he is a part of the Chelsea mob, but he really is quite a fantastic talent. I think he was Ligue 1 player of teh year two consecutive years (Lille’s double winning year as well as the Montpellier league winning year, could be wrong), and he also had impressed in International youth levels.
H2H yeah we were after him for a very long time,
and I think we even matched what Lille wanted for him, Chelsea paid the same amount but offered him much higher salary.
Anyways, right now I would not want him anywhere near our team, not from footballing perspective but character wise. Him and Chelski are perfect fit, see ballboy incident (even if it was dick move from the Swansea ballboy). Having a dispute with manager over media is just what that lot is about.
Eandy @ 60: Human characters are often like water, it takes the shape and smell and temperature of the vessel you put it in. He is surrounded by pricks, so he has learnt to become one, but if for some reason we can somehow get him to play for us I think it would be quite an addition. A midfield of Ramsey-Ozil-Hazard would be unplayable.
Agreed Faustus,
but so is going to be midfield of Ramsey-Özil-Wilshere. Jacks talent is for me on the very same level as the belgians and he is Arsenal through and through. I really really hope he is going to pull “Ramsey” next season and we can finally see those three working together in a way we all imagine.
Also, as long as The Semifinal One is there, Chelski are never going to sell to us, but once again I agree that he is probably only player I would take from their line up if I could.
forgive my ignorance, but if we have a midfield of ramsey-ozil-wilshere, a back five and a front three, where does the destroyer dm go? or would people suggest we play a 4-1-3-2 shape, bringing in a quick, clinical little bastard to play off giroud?
also, even if mourinho is a cunt, he has a point: if hazard isn’t willing to sacrifice himself for his team, why should *we* want him on ours? that’s just samir nasri redux, imho.
I’d sign Hazard anytime really! The blues infection has not yet spread across to his brain yet as he spoke the truth and that is why Moanrinho took it out on him in public. I don’t understand that bloke yet Hazard is the best player they have and he put’s a good shift most of the time.
Hazard The Red is a much warmer colour! 🙂
I think Hazard said what he said to engineer a move to PSG. Maureen would never let him come to Arsenal so it’s either PSG, Monaco or one of the Spanish duo.
I’d take Hazard in a heartbeat, wonderful player! Anyway, PSG supposedly cannot take him this summer, or did I misunderstand something I read the other day?
Chavs need to sell to buy if they are not to fall foul of FFP next season so it may suit Maureen to ease Hazard out. They can expect a fair wad for Hazard.
Frankly I would much rather that we bought a top striker and Bender than add another wee ball player, top quality though he is.
Lars @ 35, thanks mate, wish I’d booked them during Easter, a potential £11 return using 2 companies has turned into a £21 return :/
Trev @ 36, 😆 I still struggle to wake up in the morning, even if I haven’t been out the night before!
@ 37, I’d love to be lumbered with such a burden haha 😉
Lars, if National Express let me book this bloody single coach ticket I’ll be in London in time for Blogs’ new book launch at the Tollie in a few weeks, it’d be good to see you if you’re gonna be around 🙂
Dr Faustus @61,
If Eden is surrounded by pricks, how do we get to him ?
Sounds hazardous. 😉
don’t get me wrong, he is a fantastic player who we should have landed. i’m just in baff’s camp, not needing the tiny guy, i’d rather have a yaya toure clone if we add another midfielder.
trev, i think wolfie would show us the way…
Bath,
Chances are the chavs will sell hazard to buy costa. Would make no sense at all to me. Like swapping a Ferrari for an Alfa Romeo.
Was listening to Brady earlier on the radio: he seems confident that the club have put themselves in a good position to bring in 3 top class players during the summer, a striker, DCM & CH.
I fancy everton to take 2 points off citeh tomorrow. Most neutrals would like to see pool win the league and I’m one. We haven’t lost a game at home all season outside of Villa so I think we’ll formally make that fourth position ours on Sunday.
Joe@72: I’m not taking anything for granted these days, Everton to lose tomorrow please, and guarantee us 4th! 🙂 The Baggies have given us trouble before. Then everyone can do what they like, after all its a Bank Holiday weekend. I’m off to get the wine in now :0)
Joe, by definition, if you want L’pool to win the league, you are not a neutral. 😉
Ah Peter – a wine drinker with no sense of romance?
You don’t want Abbly Dabbly to win the league do ya?
A pedant..! They’re, their, there…..
Here. 😉
Seriously though, I’d be more at peace with the Abbly Dabblys buying the league then with the Mickeys winning it.
It’ll make it easier to park my soapbox on the moral highground. 🙂
I find that surprising H2H though I can understand the logic.
It would seem as though if Liverpool win it – then this would be a poor reflection on our ability to capitalise this year. And maybe in some respect it would considering the sums of money we have on account and our failure to use it. But other factors such as ‘pools lack of activity in CL, lack of injuries to key players & overall good fortune play a part too.
I just think it would be good for football if they won and they’ve had considerable decisions go their way to date so I wouldn’t be surprised if there was another twist yet! Theyre a proper football club and not some financially doped excuse for one!
I’m with H2H 100%. Principally out of self interest. I don’t want the Mickeys queering our pitch with those 3 critical purchases (even Liam can see we need them!) by telling them they can join the Champions of England and partake of their ‘wonderful history’. Much easier to live with Abbly Dabbly having bought it again.
Plus there is a world of difference between the attitude of the respective fans.
Actually I do think that the Mickeys will win it.
Trev @ 69: 🙂
scruz/bath: I didn’t mean Rambo-Ozil-Hazard as THE nominal midfield of three. We don’t play 4-3-3 anyway, we play more of a 4-2-3-1 or 4-1-4-1. I meant Hazard as in the midfield the way Santi is in the midfield when he is nominally on the left wing. Hence that doesn’t preclude a DM, who I think should be our first priority.
Basically, first eleven of GK , defensive 4, new DM- Rambo – Ozil, Hazard – Giroud – Theo.
Arteta, Jack, Ox, Santi, TR7, Poldi to rotate. To give Giroud break you can put Poldi in or even push Theo inside and put Santi/TR7 out on the right.
Instead of Hazard if we get Reus that same formation. I think we need that kind of a player (technical, tricky, fast and can score goals from the flanks) more than spending an extraordinary amount on a Benzema-like player.
Anyway, academic discussion as someone mentioned for Chelsea surely will not sell Hazard to us or for that matter if PSG is after him they would definitely outbid us. It is just that he had always looked to be a perfect player for us.
Well one things for sure bath – there’s no way they’d be where they are we’re it not for the refereeing decisions that have gone their way. Stevie Mee has scored 10 penalties this season, the second highest ever in a pl season! Wasn’t there a season recently when we went the entire length without getting a single penalty decision?
Eandy @ 62: I share your optimism about Jack. If anything I would want him to be less concerned about his international career where he jumps in headlong whenever he plays. This season he actually made a little progress despite the inconsistencies, 30-ish starts, 5-6 goals…once he perfects the decision making about when to go on those dribbling runs and when to release an early pass he would start becoming more consistent.
Yep Joe, they have been extraordinarily lucky. However I cannot get over the memory of the smug Scouse fans from the 70s – much worse than the smug Manure fans from Surrey who have at least discovered soap.
Joe @ 79: Liverpool fans can be as insufferable as ManU fans, or even worst. In addition to the sense of entitlement they also have this terrible tendency to maudlin romanticization of anything and everything to do with their club. But most importantly they would then become an appealing alternative to the players we would be targeting in the summer.
After their lucky fuck of a CL victory in 04-05, for 4-5 seasons whenever they used to be trailing behind in a match some commentator would jump in and say “Oh, I sure won’t put it past behind them to win it from here. As we saw in Istanbul…” .
Let them join ManU back in the doldrums they had found them in last few seasons. And hopefully once Suarez leaves that is where they will be.
@86: I meant worst of all top PL fans, as bad as Spurs fans. The insecure crowning of Chelsea or City fans are more tolerable than their perennial martyr posturing …
Dr Faustus does indeed know. Verily I say this unto thee all.
Doctor F:
The agnostic in me enjoyed the mention of Carl Sagan earlier in the week, though my favourite English teacher always
said that mathematics/physics were the last refuge for the unimaginative 🙂
It was thoroughly enjoyable to read your comments and I might even venture to search out some of the books you mentioned, on the oft chance that I find myself stranded on a sun blissed desert island with 2 kids, a wife, a lack of any football and a lack of anything else to read 🙂
Joe@75: a wine drinking pragmatic romantic I am. Just let’s get 4th, given how disturbing our season turned out to be, so we can set up for the future. The rest will be what it will 🙂
F:
Agree with all you say in relation the ‘Pool. I just still think it would objectively be better for football for them to win it than Abbly Dabbly.
Joe: I had a quick look through the results from previous seasons and trying to remember which games we got penalties in and you may be thinking of the 2011/12 season where we got no penalties at home in the league, but we did get three away. This season I can recall one penalty at home (Southampton) and two away (Crystal Palace and Liverpool) which makes three in total.
As for my preferred winner (which is really like choosing between being hanged, shot or beheaded) I’d go with City, that would be the least unbearable for me. But I still have a feeling City will bugger this up and allow Liverpool to win it.
Wind: won’t be around for that one unfortunately. Won’t get any more trips done this season.
Lars, shot (to kill) is much the most preferable. 🙂
Joe @ 89: Thanks a lot. Well my reply to your English teacher would be Physics is deeply imaginative (a great theoretical physicist is first and foremost a visionary), whereas much of ordinary literature (and let us be fair here, there really is just too much of ordinary literature around us) can be mind-numblingly quotidian. 🙂
And another response to your teacher would be name-dropping: Sterne, Diderot, Mann, Musil, Borges, Calvino, Pynchon … all great writers whose word view are profoundly shaped by Science of their times. 🙂
@95: I meant world-view …
Lars,
Your spot on – it was indeed the 11/12 season where we were not awarded any penalties at home. (Afraid I’m a few sangria left of exactitude).
And yes, I also feel that citeh would be the “least unbearable” result for me also, but not the objectively best result for football if that makes sense? I’m trying to take the bigger perspective which is somewhat enhanced and made more paletable by alcohol :-). Hope all is good with you!
Doc F:
I would be somewhat disappointed if I didn’t get a decent riposte to my last comments! All people, not just writers, should be influenced by science. If they were, we’d have lessor troubles in this world.
This agnostic is accompanied by a title by Paramahansa Yogananda which I’m sure you’ll know and possibly appreciate!
Joe, all well here! Still knackered from last weekend’s four days of drinking and far too little sleep but am starting to catch up on sleep now 🙂
I see what you mean about Liverpool, but let’s not forget that they are where they are in no small part thanks to spending tons of money too. It’s not on the same scale as City or Chelsea but they have still outspend us by many, many millions even with Özil included in the sums.
Ain’t nothing like a gang……..
…..bang…..into the net!
Joe @ 97 — Yes, familiar (growing up in India) but not greatly so. Yogananda follows the footsteps of the man who had reenergized Hindu spirituality (and the ideas of tolerance & non-dogamtism) by reaching back into the philosophical richness of Vedanta after a few hundred years of dark obscurantism: Swami Vivekananda. Many of the great spiritual figures out of India in last hundred years or so are inspired and influenced by him, including Gandhi and Aurobindo.
His “Raja-Yoga” is highly recommended, both for the ideas and as well as the prose.
Best assist ever Dr Z. Well in Uply.
Heh nice one Ups
RIP Alex Harvey
Runs towards the technical area celebrating wildly, lifts shirt in front of boss to reveal T shirt enscribed ” 4 more years”, then turns round to reveal enscribed on back ” As long as you buy a top class DM & Striker”
And whilst you are at it sign Zico who lays on the perfect assist 😉
Leave the shirt lifting to Smallballs …. 😉
Steady on now z 🙂
Alex Harvey eh? Boston Tea Party, a classic.
105 He normally is too busy pint lifting 😉
106…..Sensational !!!
I see what you did there U 😉
I have my moments guv…normally senior ones though 😉
All is well. Relax everyone.
Wenger is going on a £100 miilion spending spree.
CaughtOffside says so ……………………
In contrast:
Arsene ‘quoted’ in the Mirror makes it sound like this summer is going to follow a very familiar pattern:
Wenger said: “It will be busy, but the main thing for us will be to keep the stability because we feel we are close. We want to add something that makes us even stronger, but, number wise, it will not be massive.
“From my experience, the World Cup years have always been very quiet until the end of the World Cup, with no players reachable.
“Everybody is focused in the country on their national team and there’s not a lot happening. People are away.
“I believe this year again you will have to wait until July 15 to start going.
“You are not the only one who decides when the business is done because it’s down to availability of players and the clubs who sell decide that.”
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/arsenal-transfer-news-wenger-only-3488941#ixzz30b3VPqmV
Didn’t realise how terrible City’s record is at Everton. Hopefully they can buck that trend tomorrow.
Wait until July 15th to start going ?
Or even August 31st ………….
Trev@14: Just mind Wolfie isn’t tightening your guy ropes.
Need Everton to beat City tomorrow to keep alive any hope of us finishing third.
Re: Uply @104.
Inspired. 🙂
Re: Doctor Faustus @101
Hare Hare Hare Hare
Hare Hare Krishna Krishna
***assumes the pose and softly chants, F*ck Mourinho***
Bath @111
I noted the Groundhog Day feeling coming over me with that quote. I was heartened by Joe’s report of the great Liam Brady ‘s comments. I think we all want a Striker ( actually two ) a DM and a replacement for Sagna who can also play centre back. If Vermaelen goes as well we will need to replace him.
It’s conceivable that Zelalem, Akpom , Bellerin and Gnabry may play more next year in the first team but not sure where any other promotion is likely.
Please Arsene pull your finger out and get stuff sorted early on please.. We can’t stand another summer like the last one
8 ball @ 116: Ha ha! You will be surprised to know that “variety” of colloquial and colorful poems/doggerels/limerick that are sung in villages of Bengal in the tune of that “Hare Krishna…” (it is a refrain from a type of religious song called Kirtan) .
Let us just say the fucking in those “poems” generally doesn’t stop with the person in question, but is spread around in various permutations … 🙂
I’m with the good Dr F, I’d rather have a couple of attacking midfielders like Reus (or Hazard) and Moura than a second rate striker like Benzema. The last time we had an outstanding striker (the Feyenoord Fukka) he was essentially a winger, as was the mighty TH14 before him.
Any one of the above three would complete a fearsome midfield of Özilla, Santi and Rambo nicely, leaving space for Bender behind and Ollie upfront … plus a formidable bench including Theo’s speed late in the game. Regular rotation required so they all have an equal chance of picking up injuries of course. 🙁
I’m less sure about Jack whose form has slipped alarmingly in recent seasons. I know he’s had a bad trot with injuries but the promise that was there seems to have got lost somewhere. Bench at best.

Interesting to read AW today saying he doesn’t anticipate much action in the transfer window. His scouts have ‘started looking’ apparently (when did they stop??). http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/9294041?
I hope he’s bluffing.

Sorry bath, after back-reading some more I see you’ve covered AW’s transfer story.

Off up town for a Legends Tour (Charlie George) with the nipper, tickets courtesy of Big Ian – top boy! Then its the Arseblog 5’s at the Sobell Centre and mass pintage at the Tollie.
A great day awaits!
Nice one, Esso – enjoy the day!
I really don’t get why people are so upset with Arsene saying that he expects little action in the transfer market until after the World Cup. The big names (wether it be established stars or players expected to have many suitors) almost never move before or during a WC – regardless of wether they are playing in it or not – so what the fuck is the big deal? And does it really matter if we sign a player on May 28th or July 22nd? Not for me, and given the choice of having signed Fellaini in July or Özil on September 2nd I’d choose Özil any day of the week and ten times on Sundays. Yes, it’s not ideal to sign a player after the season has started but then if it’s not worth waiting until the last minute for a top, top player then by the same logic it shouldn’t be worth it to sign anyone at all in January as more than half the season has gone anyway. A good player is a good player no matter when we sign him and while it is better to sign them early I’ll be happy as long as we sign them at all.
Bah, I managed to misspell “whether” twice in the same post!
Esso enjoy- I spent the evening at A&E with the missus who had a reaction to a painkiller. It was like walking onto the set of a Monsters Inc!
You should have a lovely day. I did that tour and Charlie was great value. The only thing that saddened me was that he reckoned none of the current squad knew who he was.

I won’t complain if we only get 3 players in:
Aguero-type striker
Bender-type MFer
Czech-type GKer
but if Bac and TV5 go (as seems likely) then we need to replace them as well.
I hope Ivan has a plan.
Have a good day Esso, I’m sure the tour with Charlie will be great.
Hi all
I really hope we do our business before the WC and everyone`s price goes up at least 5m, Im sure the boss knows who he wants and there should be no reason the signings cant be done early this time. It would be great to go into pre season with the players already there for a change.
The big red faced one at manure done it that way and we would have to agree it was sucessful. He didnt spend his summer thinking of who to buy he just did it striaght after the season finished then went on holiday to make his face redder *if possible* I would love us to do it that way this season.
Cheers
We bought TR7 before a tournament (WC or EC? – O can’t recall). He scored a cracking goal for Czech Republic and I remember thinking what a good buy he was. Not wrong though spectacular goals have not been as frequent as I had hoped.
Gents, I am in hospital this last couple of days, and I will stay here for two more weeks at least. It looks like tomorrow’s game could be the first Arsenal game I’ll miss seeing live. My phone is to weak to open any stream so I guess I will keep in touch with the game trough the bar. Expect usual suspects to be here.
Anyway, my illness forced me miss a pleasure to have a proper laugh at Maureen, but that is life, there will be plenty of occasions to do that.
I will share a link from The Guardian, where Maureen is interwieved. If you are disgusted don’t read all of it, just the last but one paragraph where he talks about the importance of finishing fourth in the EPL, compare this with the interviews from the start of the season when he stated that he will leave the club, any club if he doesn’t deliver trophies, and tell me is he that stupid to believe that no one will check what he said only couple of months ago.
Stay safe ‘Holics, here’s to Everton dropping points later.

The link of course
Get well soon, Lurky.
I really hope we do our business before the WC and everyone`s price goes up at least 5m
Which is exactly why so few (note: few, not none) deals are done before the world cup. And the Fergie deal you mention was for Chicharito, who at the time was playing second fiddle to Carlos Vela for the Mexican national team and was – as Ferguson himself said – a gamble and it paid off. And for that matter, how early did Ferguson buy van Persie?
Lurky, get well soon mate!
Lurky,
Two weeks in hospital due to illness does not sound trivial. Hope it goes well – get well soon.
Esso – have a good day. Sounds guaranteed. 😉
Sorry to hear that Lurky. Hope all ends well.
Birmingham staying up – bah!
West Ham 2 up against Spuds – LOL
Get well soon Lurky – hope you’re out for the Final.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The gift that keeps on giving….Spuds lose to FatSam. On MOTD, watch wall defending by Paulinho and Adebayor on second goal for ROFL moment of the weekend.
Note: if Manure win the rest of their matches, they match Spuds on points with a better GD and go into Europe as sixth place team. Question: who would you prefer to see waste their resources in Europa League — Spuds or Manure?
Lurky, I hope you get better . There is more laughing to be done in regards to the “specialist in CL semi finals failure” don’t worry about it.
