This was supposed to be a post on last night’s Q&A with Ivan Gazidis and an excellent follow-up session with the one and only Romford Pele. Apologies. Instead it is only a selfish, and brief, tirade against an organisation that rode roughshod through ten years worth of work on this blog today.
Photobucket, a caring, professional image hosting site took the decision this week to change their terms and conditions without notifying their blackmail victims, apologies again, I mean customers, that they intended to charge for the third party image hosting they have done for free for well over a decade.
You will notice this site, which some reading this will have considered unprofessional to begin with, now looks just like a giant Photobucket advertising site as they have replaced ten years worth of images hosted with them in good faith with their corporate message. Yes, ten years worth of work up that creek without a paddle, and without warning so we could fix things first.
Across the pond this is apparently acceptable business behaviour and not at all shoddy practice at best, or the blackmail that it really is. For along with the stealing of my images from my site they have also issued a demand for $400 per annum to restore them. This is no different behaviour to the scumbags who hack your home PC and demand a ransom to restore your functionality and access.
It will take a long. long time, to make this site less of an unpaid advertisement for the crooks (that is what they would be in the EU) for which I apologise. I’ll start that task next week because I will not let corporate bullies drive me away.
So tonight, for once, have the best one you can, ‘holics. I pray you have been treated better today than some. And yes, I know this is a first-world problem. Sorry.

I don’t envy your task but let’s be honest. If Sanogo can convince the mighty Arsenal to pay him £20,000 a week for 3/4 years then anything is possible.

If you log in to your Photobucket account and select Library, I think you can download your entire set of images as a big zip file. You can then delete your photobucket account and that should at least get rid of their adverts because there’s nothing for the URL to link to.
I think.
Then it’s a simple matter of redoing ten years worth of links with a replacement storage service. 🙁

Shameful, Holic,
two fingers to Photofucket – that’s what I say.
I had my router hacked by some indian gentlemen who then wanted £499.99 to remove the “Trojan” and provide me with future security.
Luckily, it all happened via the brand new laptop I had just bought Mrs Trev for her course work, while she was downloading Microsoft Office – the first task on the new machine.
I invited the imposters to do one had a factory reset done on the machine for £10.
I discovered some while ago that Facebook – another insidious organisation – automatically claim the rights to any picture you post on there – even to the extent of claiming the rights to pictures that may win competitions elsewhere.
Very careful background reading is the way, Holic.
I wish you luck with Cynic’s suggested “solution” above – and give some thought to Bath’s crowdfunding idea.
I’m sure we’d all do whatever we can.
As any good Conservative will tell you, H, first world problems are the only ones that matter. 🙂

I have had repeated ‘attacks’ by some ransomeware site which freezes Windows and demands payment to unfreeze. But I have found I can fix it by right clicking on the task bar, bringing up ‘Task Manager’ and closing Windows where it’s listed under Aps. This closes all Windows windows including the offending ransomeware page.
You lose the Windows you had open at the time but kills the blackmailer. Although not literally, sadly.
No idea where I picked up this piece of shit and clearly not a major problem, but worth checking to see if this fix works for anyone else before calling in the heavy guns.
It seems that much of our loyal English core plan to draw their salaries for another year then walk away for free. I suggest that we sell them all to Stoke this summer as a (slightly shop-soiled) package.
Are we going to get the ‘Tottenham League Win’ clock back? Is there anywhere else we can access it? I like counting the years Spurs last one title; it puts Arsenal’s relative failure into perspective!
It’s still there CF.

Something must be happening. Within 23 minutes of each other today, the Independent published this story:
Arsenal make £39m offer for Alexandre Lacazette but forward is not in London for medical, confirms Lyon president
and then the Telegraph published this story:
Alexandre Lacazette to travel to London to complete £52m Arsenal move
If Photobucket has prevented you accessing your images, as some people have reported, it may be worth noting that right clicking the EVIL ADVERT image and opening link in a new tab gives the original image.
That’s a very long winded way of saving everything, but if you don’t have the library option available due to their act of ransom, it’s an option.
Also, if you can save all your images and manage to find a new host, put the images into the new host with the same directory structure and you’d only have to do a find/replace in the edit section of your posts to replace photobucket with the new host name. That should be an almost pain free solution that works.
Probably.
Hopefully.
You’re way ahead of me on this I guess 🙂
And finally folks… a positive thing.

Sorry to hear of your digital mugging, ‘Holic.
A fellow victim, redmanjake, who says he is rehosting all his photos to his own website for which he only pays $100/yr “thank you very much”, .put it this way:
Photobucket will be gone in a year. Nobody who is willing to pay for their service would choose $400/yr over full web hosting for $100/yr. And anyone who wants a free service certainly won’t pay $400/yr.
What selfish idiots. If they had only warned us and asked for some reasonable charge, even $50/year, they would have turned a mass of freeloaders into low-end paying customers and generated revenue. Now, they will generate nothing but their own demise.
Cynic, I am evidently not ahead of you in any way, shape, or form. I am fixing the front page painstakingly an image at a time, and then I’ll look at the short cut options. Thank you.
Ned, thank you too. Redmanjake is spot on. It would have been worth $50 a year to save this pain. Photobucket can fuck off now. They are finished.
Imgur is obviously the new image hosting site of choice. Their business model sees them named on all images and therefore promoted so no need to impose a charge for third party hosting.
If they pull a similar stunt I don’t know what I’ll do, but it won’t be pretty!
Lacazetto dello Sport
Even Aulas, the Lyon President, and a nightmare to negotiate with by all accounts , has admitted we are to sign Lacazette. It is interesting that there does appear to be a thread to our dealings this year. I can’t believe there is any likelihood of us signing Mbappe and if we did we must surely sell Sanchez, but we are going for a wide man and that looks more likely to be Mahrez than Lemar. I’d love to sign young Lemar who looks a real class act . I also like Carvalho in midfield and that would give us a very classy roster . I hear we are looking at Rob Green as a back- up keeper
I’d prefer us to hang on to the Ox and Theo. I’m not especially keen to lose Giroud but Perez must be off as must Gibbs, Debuchy, Coquelin, Jenkinson, Chesney, Ospina and I suspect Sanchez. Ozil will stay but we will sell Ox if he doesn’t sign a new contract. No idea about LJW
That liberates about £125 million in fees plus a lot of wages. A rough idea of what we might spend is about the same and we will promote Maitland- Niles and Nelson and possibly Bramall.
That gives us a decent squad depth given the number of games we will have to play.
I have a friend who is certain we are going to sign Mbappe but the outlay would seem enormous. However looking at my maths above and if we sell Giroud we would end up spending a similar amount to last year’s window and not increasing the wage bill much. So it might not be as far fetched as we are probably thinking . It would be the sort of deal that only Wenger could pull off and if you could sign the biggest prospect in world football ( who will only increase in value) in the face of massive global competition it does reflect pretty well on Wenger’s pulling power. So it’s a pretty positive mood so far from TTG about the window
What a strange few days. Thanks all for your kind words.
We go again.
If the new host gives you the same treatment, Dropbox may be a last resort
Well done Guvna. We are forever even more in your debt.
Great work, ‘holic, however you fix it. Lesser landlords would have simply called time. Please help yourself to a drink from the top shelf.
I’m still thinking the Lacazette/Mbappe double could be on (assuming Alexis leaves). But Mahrez? Where does he fit in if Theo stays? And if he comes why would Theo stay? Yes, for the salary, but doesn’t he want to play at this prime stage of his career?
Questions, questions, questions …
It is far from fixed, Chris. Would it were. It is quite the summer ahead, but thank you.
Great stuff Holic we are immensely grateful to you
Good day at the cricket H? Looked a great game to be at?
Fabulous day, thanks Steve. Three bottles of champoo! Lots of Gooners present so the interval was a laugh. ? One of the good days. ☺️
Sounds like a bloody nightmare !
I spend allot of my working day piddling around behind the scenes with Amazon via their sellers portal – thought they were bad to deal with but your situation with Photobucket certainly puts my constant griping with them into perspective.
This is cool from our Hector : http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/40474983

Mbappe was always a long shot. I would rate us with only a 5% chance of getting him. Personally, I’m glad Wenger hasn’t allowed himself to be sidetracked by Mbappe, as he was with Suarez when we supposedly had Higuain in the bag. There’s talk of Mahrez again but unless Lemar is definitely staying at Monaco, I’d prefer Lemar. Lacazette’s stats of only scoring 2 of his 28 league goals from outside the box suggests he needs assists, which Lemar, (14 goals, 14 assists) would be the perfect man to supply. I also have reservations about the attitude of Mahrez after last season’s dip in form.
Possible new coach on the way…
I’m having goosebubbles at the news….
If it happens.
Maybe this one’s got air-con, Cynic
There should be a quality filter on blogs on the Internet especially those about Arsenal. No bollocks should be allowed and this would limit the amount of crap written in the transfer window. It’s a bit draconian but would stop the ridiculous going and fro ing on transfers that aren’t ever likely anyway.
Goonerholic is the gold standard. Most of the others are base metal
Thanks again for those who endured that bollocks. Sorry no new post yet. Hoping tomorrow and competition time Thursday.
In other news I am also a gardener these days. Never thought I would see the day. First hanging basket seeded tonight. Maybe in August/September…
Already got some pots and a couple of beds looking promising. New life. I’ll probably kill them all before they flower! ?
Is Cynic’s new coach Mad Jens. ??
Interesting that he has rejoined as an addition to the first team backroom staff, not as a goalkeeping coach.
Will be interesting to see what his role is.
But he certainly won’t take a backward step, and if he can instill even half of his fanatical will to win on our lot then it could be a very interesting season ahead.
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/jul/03/jens-lehmann-arsenal-coaching-role
He will take no shit.
I hope
Jens owes us one after 2006.
By my count media rumours have Arsenal spending at least a third of a billion this transfer window. Could Arsene be bankrupting the club in answer to all the criticism? o:
Where can I find the codes for emojis in this text box??
Hello ‘holic!
Just returned to NZ after a month in Europe, mostly the UK (London).
Unfortunately my Russian, Bulgarian, Hindi and Arabic were not at a high enough quality for me to converse with the locals – I would love to have understood the local perspective re Arsenals rebuilding plan.
Having only a low form (cockney) of a little known language called English was something of a handicap as it is of course not widely understood in the general environs of Greater London.
However, I am off to Sydney in a couple of weeks to see the ultimate glamour tie between Arsenal and Western Sydney Wanderers — Australians speak a heavily doctored version of the Kings, so perhaps I’ll attempt to engage one of them in conversation if they are not too cold to speak – its winter in Oz of course and temperatures have dipped to a chilly 30C.
A word of warning — if any of you goners are travelling by tube in London be sure to carry a bottle of water with you during the summer months – you’ll need it to wash the filth from your person after an hour on the Picadilly line.
Things appear to have changed drastically since 2011 when I was last in London. I remember the joy of drinking real beer in a real pub, seeing real theatre performed by the world’s finest actors, hearing English spoken without a whiney accent and every sentence rising at the end as if the speaker was hiccuping, exploring architectural wonders built of brick or stone rather than imitating garden sheds made of wooden planks, feeling that ominous rumbling underfoot and realising it was the tube not another bloody earthquake, never hearing the words ‘All Blacks’ at the beginning of every sporting news (or in practically every conversation for that matter), and, believe it or not, finding the Southern Region train system a work of style and sophistication compared to Wellington’s Johnsonville line.
The only disappointments I had in the whole trip were the two Arsenal games I watched … home to Poo and away to Manure.

Please – buy the houseboat.
It would be a positive boon for all those world class actors to have you living close by I am sure.
But —- don’t live in an apartment block or go out at night.
Three weeks in England — One disgraceful and tragic inferno (caused by cost cutting and uncaring Landlords), Two terror attacks, and one laughable General Election (weakening the country still further).
I’ll take my chances with the earthquakes, thanks.
And Holic — I feel for you – first world problems are still problems. You deserve better. This site is amongst the best on the web, and I am sure every reader is grateful to you for your continued effort and enthusiasm.

Arsenal: Alexandre Lacazette has medical before record £45m Gunners’ signing
By David Ornstein
a close personal friend with impeccable connections to our beloved club (aka the sports pages of a national newspaper) is saying La-La-Lacazette is getting the olde drop & cough treatment at London Colney …
appears transfer is all teed-up, woodn’t u believe it, with finer details having already been ironed out … just putting it out there.
UTA!
I hope Arsene tells Barcelona to go fuck themselves. They have never improved anybody from Arsenal who has moved to them ( and there have been many) while Cesc and Bellerin have become top- class players under Wenger. That is the reality I hope Arsene is spelling out to 22 year- old Bellerin who signed a six and a half year contract recently.
As for Alexis despite the stories coming out of Chile he is no use to us if he leaves for nothing next year. I’d rather we got £50 million out of Bayern ( and not Citeh unless they give us Aguero) and brought in someone who wants to play for us .
I’m pleased with the Lacazette deal. In my experience serial goalscorers stay serial goalscorers wherever they play and often improve with experience. Simeone is a good judge and he was happy to pay a higher fee for him.
Sadness today is that poor Santi seems seriously unlikely to play for many moons, if ever again. That’s very sad. He was a much underrated influence on us and a lovely lad to boot.
When he was a player Jens Lehmann said this about his manager:
“At the moment I’m just swallowing it all as part of the humiliation but I think – and this is aimed at my dear manager – one shouldn’t humiliate players for too long.”
Will he continue the same attitude as a coach? Some might say that humiliation is exactly what the Arsenal players require.
It’s not humiliation that they require, they did that to themselves at Palace. It’s a rocket up them and Jens is the very man to do that – if he’s allowed to.
I agree with Bath, as I often do. Jens is a nutter but he’s our nutter and he understands what it means to play for Arsenal. That’s what we need in the dressing room.
I’ve just finished Tony Adams’s second book ‘ Sober’. I was critical of him when the book was released but I hadn’t read it. It was a Father’s Day present and it was not fairly reported in the press. He is always respectful to Arsene and he is crushingly honest about his own failings to the point where it becomes a bit tedious. He just hasn’t had a last fifteen years like the fifteen that preceded them.
His coaching achievements are seriously underwhelming despite the excuses he makes and one feels he is not rated as a potential first team coach by Wenger. But like Jens he loves our club and would be a big and positive influence around the club. He has certainly made enough mistakes in his life and could point out the pitfalls to younger players.
Spot on TTG and bath.
I was offered copies of Tony’s book by the publisher as competition prizes, but they have not materialised, which is yet another disappointment.
Hey ho.
