Three Points Means Third Place – Thank You Gunners

Apr 1st, 2019 by 'holic

Unai Emery juggled his pack again for the visit of Newcastle. Laurent Koscielny and Granit Xhaka were ruled out and so Bernd Leno started behind a back three of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, and the returning Nacho Monreal. Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Sead Kolasinac were charged with giving us width either side of Aaron Ramsey (captain for the night) and Matteo Guendouzi.Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi were selected to provide for, and support, lone striker Alexandre Lacazette.

Anthony Taylor was in charge and whilst he was quick to whistle Perez for an elbow into Kolasinac’s  head he just issued a ‘Don’t do it again” rather than an early yellow card. Both teams made a lively start although the first meaningful chance didn’t arrive until Ramsey’s thirteenth minute ‘goal’, ruled out for a tug on Lejeune’s sleeve by Sokratis which sent the big defender crashing dramatically to earth. We see worse allowed at set pieces in every match. Television replays showed Taylor didn’t even see it.

Newcastle have turned into a solid unit in the second half of the season and with three lightning fast attackers, so they pose a real threat on the break. However they do like to hit terra firma under precious little contact. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Middlesex Nomads had scouts at the game. Almiron was alleged to be a player recommended by Sven Mislintat but rejected by Raul Sanllehi. He looks a footballer and Arsene Wenger too had tracked him as far back as 2016, make of that what you will.

The half developed as an exercise in attack versus defence, with the latter firmly in control until Ramsey grabbed the opener on the half hour mark. The skipper’s unorthodox one-two with Lacazette left him free to sweep a glorious finish off the inside of the far post. MEGS! Remind me why we are letting him go to Juventus for nothing?

The Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle United

Ozil was a whisker away from a second as a near post cross following an intricate attack at pace. The Gunners were really warming to their task again as half-time approached. Another Ramsey run was spotted but Kolasinac overhit the cross. There was still time for Ritchie to spectacularly head Lacazette’s shot on the turn off the line and we had to settle for the slenderest of advantages at the break.

In the fifth minute of the half the dancing feet of Iwobi, Ramsey, and Kolasinac drew gasps from the home support but the Geordies right flank just about remained unbreached. Moments later Maitland-Niles went down with a twisted knee following a rash Ritchie challenge from behind. Yellow card? No. Ozil ghosted into the box but his cross was picked off by a Geordie defender.

The sight of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, benched due to a pre-weekend illness, being prepared would have filled the visitors with terror. Not as much as Taylor’s booking of Monreal for what appeared to be a perfect sliding tackle. Auba was introduced for Iwobi with half an hour remaining, trailing Aguero by two goals in the hunt for the golden boot. Would he have thirty minutes in his legs?

Dummett prevented a Lacazette cross with his arm, and although the Arsenal team and support screamed for a penalty it was a case of ball to arm and totally not deliberate. I’ll give that one to Taylor. Moments later cut to Ramsey, the man of the first-half, on the deck and he had to be replaced by Mohamed Elneny. Let’s hope the injury is not a serious one. Rambo has become critical to us again.

Mustafi’s rampaging run down the right flank but his ‘hurried’ cross high into the North Bank drew laughter from team-mates and the supporters in that corner of the ground. I can imagine only too well what was being said elsewhere. He is the current lightning-rod for the team and not without reason.

Kolasinac was booked for dissent when Ozil was fouled. In open play Ozil played in Aubameyang who stung the palms of Dubravka with a fierce drive. The crowd, nervous of that slender advantage roared “Come on Arsenal”. The Geordies made positive substitutions, Sung-yueng, Kenedy, and Muto. A brief period of pressure followed.

It mattered nought. Lacazette played a one two with Aubameyang and chipped Dubravka. Cue the withdrawal of Ozil for a thoroughly deserved standing ovation with Henrikh Mkhitaryan coming on.

The Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United

With five minutes to go Maitland-Niles slid a ball across the face of the goal and Aubameyang was inches from a third. We scored a legitimate third moment later with a Lacazette header, but Mister Magoo had seen a hand involved. It was the hand of the goalkeeper. We were denied a second goal on the night by a dreadful decision. It should have been 4-0 and I should have been praying for a Newcastle goal for a healthy profit.

The three points have taken us above sh, you know who, and seven wins will guarantee third place, Champions League football, and St Totteringham’s Day. Five of those last seven games are on the road, often an issue, but boy we are playing well and it is such a feel good factor right now. As Freddie once observed, and with apologies to Arseblog, It’s fuckin’ excellent.

    Good stuff H
Newcastle bereft of attacking intent, one shot on target all night.
Boys did what they had to do,even with disruption in defence and midfield.
Kos apparently has a bruised foot, and Granit we know has a sore groin.
With Everton in form after 2 good wins, let’s hope both are fit for massive game next Sunday at Goodison.
Fingers crossed Rambo substitution was precautionary, and not a recurrence of his thigh problem that ruled him out of Wales games during Int’l break.
    Good start to the month.

Swift, excellent and good natured as always. Holic on the top of his game and Arsenal not too far off. We did look disjointed at times but the good news is Newcastle never came close. Job done all around and hopefully Ramsey will be okay for the run-in. Mustafi didn’t do bad either.

Nice write up H. Three points and third is probably more than most of us would have expected. Yet again I genuinely have no idea why people are blaming officials. The final disallowed goal at the moment remains a mystery. The rest he got spot on. The first disallowed goal? Perfectly correct decision. Nacho booking? He leaves the ground and jumps in. The current law states that’s a foul? We all know that? The handball in the box??? Really??? Ask yourselves one question. If we had been in the receiving end of those decisions and they had gone the other way then what would your thoughts be then???

There was criticism in the previous drinks for blowing up for half time and for something he might do in the future??????? Bizarre.

Personally I’d rather focus on the positives. Players out and we kept a clean sheet with ease. Ozil was outstanding. Let’s kerp everything crossed he can keep that firm for the rest of the season. Laca and Aubameyang combined look like they have goals galore in them.

We have some tough away fixtures on the horizon. Let’s focus and get the three points at Everton on Sunday.

  8. on 01 Apr 2019 at 10:34 pm8Gunnersaurus Stunt Double

    Holic. Top man.

Steve. I totally disagree. If the first goal is a correct decision then I must miss your weekly report on every incorrect decision that is is not given for an innocuous, off the ball challenge. Presumably it is so long and tedious to type up, due to the multiple times similar challenges go unpenalised in every match, that you don’t post it here. Where can I find this weekly missive?

The second disallowed goal remains a mystery even to you. Now that I do find mystifying. Surely you can justify it in some way?

“Anthony Taylor only disallowed one blatant goal all game. I have no idea why anyone is annoyed”.

Focus on the positives? Yeah. We won. Despite the unbelievably poor referee.

  9. on 01 Apr 2019 at 10:38 pm9Gunnersaurus Stunt Double

I’m glad we never went in for Almiron. I’d be ashamed if he played for us. It has been a long time since I’ve seen such a pathetic whinger.

  10. on 01 Apr 2019 at 10:42 pm10Goonerholic

    Steve,

We’ll disagree all night long, but that’s ok. What is your view on the second disallowed goal when they get a free-kick for a handball by their goalkeeper.

    That is truly special!

  11. on 01 Apr 2019 at 10:49 pm11Esso

    Cheers H!

    Fuckin’ excellent!

  12. on 01 Apr 2019 at 10:49 pm12bt8

Brave man, Steve. Any other Anthony Taylor defenders want to step up?

  13. on 01 Apr 2019 at 10:59 pm13Steve T

GSD. So is the first disallowed goal not a foull then? Do we not give the players shirt a tug as he goes for the ball? I don’t really give monkeys about other games or who gets away with it, it’s a foul. If it had been in our box and they had scored would you be saying “good goal?” My guess would be that your reaction would be exactly the same as everyone else’s.

I don’t know why the second was disallowed to be honest. I’ve only seen it once and it certainly wasn’t clear why. The commentary team suggested it was for handball. I didn’t see a handball. I would like to see it again but have no idea why that was disallowed.

Not brave bt8. Happy to stand by everything I’ve ssid based on what I’ve just watched. I would love to hear friends m someone who would have been perfectly happy if we had been on the receiving end of those decisions. Now let’s see whose brave????

  14. on 01 Apr 2019 at 11:06 pm14Steve T

Sky saying that the second goal was disallowed due to a foul on the keeper???

  15. on 01 Apr 2019 at 11:26 pm15TTG

On stationary train because of signalling problems but most passengers are happy Gooners. That would include me. We played very good pressing football and I saw today how hard we were to play against. We didn’t lack creativity and my sense is a fair score would have been 4-0 not my correctly forecast ?2-0.
Super performances from Ramsey , Lacazette and the two wing backs. Ozil did some beautiful things and was very positive early on. Mustafi should carry a health warning. We missed Xhaka not a jot .
The crowd are very positive about what Emery has done and with good reason and we have a really good chance to exceed our wildest expectations.
I couldn’t see the first disallowed goal properly but I saw the second much better than Taylor and the goalie was not fouled he just punched it in his own net. The penalty for hands would be awarded at Anfield or Old Trafford but would have been a harsh award

  16. on 01 Apr 2019 at 11:39 pm16Esso

    @TTG

Bang on. 4-0 would not have flattered us today. Momentum is everything. Quietly starting to fancy us to ‘win’ something this season.

  17. on 01 Apr 2019 at 11:39 pm17bt8

Steve, the first disallowed goal appears to have been a foul but not one I have seen given very often in similar cases. The second one, as you say, was given for unknown reasons which nobody knows and nobody is able to guess.

  18. on 01 Apr 2019 at 11:43 pm18bt8

As for the rest of Taylor’s performance I thought he favored Newcastle blatantly. All credit to Unai Emery though. He doesn’t whinge about the referees as Arsene Wenger did so regularly, and it seems to have a positive effect both on the focus of Arsenal’s players and on the referees who may not be backstabbing us as regularly.

  19. on 02 Apr 2019 at 12:08 am19Goonersince54

    Just read Unai’s prezzer
Apparently Auba was unwell for 2 days prior to game,so along with Kos,Granit and Lucas, all absent, we still won fairly comfortably.
So 4 wins over the weekend for the Club, from the under 23’s on Friday, the under 18’s on Saturday, the Ladies on Sunday, and now the first team.
Can the under 18’s make it 5 in a row by beating our neighbors in a title decider tomorrow night. ??
Also we have equalled a club record from 20 yrs ago of 10 consecutive home league wins.
On the referee debate,i will leave that to GSD and Stevo to argue the toss, but all i do know is given how fast the game is now,it is bloody difficult making split second decisions on the run.
Hopefully the introduction of VAR next season will give the Ref’s the extra eyes they have long required to assist with contentious incidents.

Didn’t wake up and missed the game
but happily read the Guvnors report.
    2-0 is fine.

A win at Everton would be a big boost
    for our confidence away

  21. on 02 Apr 2019 at 12:16 am21OsakaMatt

Watching the game now and I can
smile tolerantly at Taylor, Mus, Papa.
Funny how winning will do that.

  22. on 02 Apr 2019 at 12:24 am22OsakaMatt

Just got to half time. Wanted to
slag off Taylor as I think he’s a poor
    ref but….

    – it was a foul by Papa and Taylor
was right. I’d have wanted it if it
    was against us

    – the player wasn’t getting there and
fell over easy. Not sure why Papa
fouled him, force of habit maybe.

    More importantly we were patient,
    moved well and deserved our
    half time lead.

  23. on 02 Apr 2019 at 1:49 am23Countryman100

Lovely atmosphere in the ground tonight. Hugely supportive, next to no negativity. Thought Mezut, Ramsey, Laca, Guendouzi and Kola had huge games. Loved both goals. But, easiest game in our run in. Tough work starts now. Got my Wolves tix today, should get Leicester tix as well. Come on you Gunners.

  24. on 02 Apr 2019 at 1:58 am24OsakaMatt

    Laca finished nicely, enjoyed that.

Hope Kos is back for Everton and
we go with a back 4. Aaron and
Guen played fine but I’m a bit
    worried about them away
    defensively.

  25. on 02 Apr 2019 at 7:00 am25North Bank Ned

As Clive said @4, Newcastle came will little attacking intent, and what they did muster was readily snuffed out. They had only three shots all game and just one on target. We were measured and patient in the first half, but more controlling than threatening. Ozil played well, as did Ramsey. He will be spectacular at Juve, I suspect; the Italian game will suit him, and Juve will get his best years. Your question is well posed, ‘Holic.

The second half was more of the same, although with more chances once Aubameyang replaced Iwobi. Nonetheless, we managed only seven shots all game. One-nil deep into the second half was a less-comfortable lead than it should have been given our dominance. I would imagine some nerves were creeping in until the Auba-Laca combination secured the second.

I also thought Mustafi had a good game, although the rampaging run down the right flank you describe, ‘Holic, followed by his cross high into the North Bank was typical. When it goes pear-shaped for him, you tend to get the whole orchard.

As for the refereeing, the muted celebration following the first disallowed goal suggests the players accepted there was a foul involved, though it was a soft one. The second disallowed goal was either overly strict reading of Law 12,” It is an offence to restrict the movement of the goalkeeper by unfairly impeding him, e.g. at the taking of a corner kick” or Taylor forgot the word ‘unfairly’ is part of the rule. Laca stood his ground, and the keeper clattered into him trying to reach the ball. Nothing unfair about that. The handball shout was ball-to-hand rather than the other way round, and as TTG said, it would have been harsh had it been given.

The main complaint against Taylor’s reffing is that he let all sorts of Newcastle pushing, shoving and other niggling fouling go unpunished, and especially in the ten minutes or so before Nacho’s yellow card for, as you say, ‘Holic, what looked like a perfect sliding tackle.

  26. on 02 Apr 2019 at 8:38 am26Gunnersaurus Stunt Double

    Steve.

The foul was off the ball and had no bearing on the goal. If that happened against us and the goal was given then if I complained I’m sure you’d have me over hot coals for blaming the referee when it was actually our fault. It’s a rock or a hard place.

I agree with Ned that Taylor let Newcastle get away with a lot. I thought he got so many smaller decisions wrong. I did not see his performance in anything like the same way you did. He is a bad, bad referee.

Anyway, always happy to disagree (and almost sure to disagree about refs). There’s a freshly squeezed orange juice on the bar for you.

  27. on 02 Apr 2019 at 8:55 am27bathgooner

A real pleasure to read your report this morning and relive a most pleasant experience from yesterday evening. Very much as I saw it.

We moved the ball crisply, had some excellent attacking moves and could have won by 6. Apart from an early over-the-top ball that beat our central defence, I thought we defended well and even as the clock ran down and the old memories of sucker punches began to rise, the balance of play gave me confidence that we would see it out.

I’m delighted if the disallowed early goal is the beginning of a persistent campaign by referees to outlaw all the grappling that we see at corner kicks. Do I believe that even Mr Taylor will consistently apply that rule? DIF!

I remain mystified by the second disallowed goal. It was right below us and looked fine to me.

All in all a good night’s work. Top performances all round. Now the harder work begins. If we can get a result at Everton we will maintain the momentum required for that third place finish.

Haven’t seen Dorset Mick in the bar recently.
    Trust all is okay mate.

  29. on 02 Apr 2019 at 10:18 am29TTG

I’m fascinated to see that the tabloid media keep linking us with very expensive signings and then say we’ve only got £40 million to play with. Not if we are in the Champions League we haven’t . The speculation around Ryan Fraser is interesting. He looks very much an Emery player and I’m starting to understand what that is.- a skilful player who can work the ball up the field and works his nuts off to get it back if he loses it.
Poor Suarez would take half of that £40 million and unless he has incriminating photos of Unai he isn’t going to spend it on him?. Mustafi who clearly had similar photos of Wenger really isn’t an Emery player but we all know that already. The trouble is I’m not sure whose type of player he is!
I am going to supper at Lords tonight so won’t follow the U18s as closely as Clive and I like to but good luck to the lads tonight.
Ps- saw the disallowed goals on TV. The first was a slight foul but those occur all around penalty boxes at corners. Consistency is key. If that’s the standard fine but Chelsea got away with much worse on Sunday. I agree with Bath who I believe sits quite close to me in block 100. The goalie ( who was otherwise very sound) was a bit of a Jessie and Laca did nothing wrong . Poor decision

  30. on 02 Apr 2019 at 10:51 am30Dorset Mick

    Hi Clive @ 28,

I’m fine at the moment, thanks, other than near constant tiredness.

Much cheered up by last night’s display, and the pleasure of looking down at the swamp dwellers for the first time in ages. Long may it continue!

  31. on 02 Apr 2019 at 10:57 am31Cynic

The second was clearly disallowed for handball, unless Taylor tapping his own hand repeatedly when Lacazette was “WTF?”ing him was him clapping himself for a top top decision.

I mean it’s an easy mistake to make. The keeper was wearing black gloves after all. (rolling eyes smiley)

Do you miss the days when smileys were called smileys and not emojis by the way?

    No, me neither.

  32. on 02 Apr 2019 at 1:02 pm32bathgooner

I’ve now had the opportunity to view the footage and repeats of both disallowed goals.

On the first it was indeed a foul by Sokratis on the defender as Steve T observed. He held the lower sleeve of the defender as the ball came across.

I look forward along with TTG, with whom I do indeed share block 100 along with one or two others, to the new era of consistent penalty awards for that very offence, more severe examples of which have become regular behaviour at corners.

On the second, the goalkeeper pushes from behind Lacazette to handle the ball. His bright white palmed glove (easy mistake, Cynic, ?) pushes the ball into the net as he attempts to palm it away. I’m not sure whether the ball brushed Laca’s head. For me, it’s an own goal. Laca clearly neither handled the ball nor fouled the keeper.

Taylor was clearly either hallucinating or desperate to find a way to penalise Arsenal (surprise?). The ultimate irony is that Laca’s move towards the ball was impeded by a defender holding his sleeve in the exact same manner for which Sokratis had been penalised to rule out the first goal.

So, I guess we shouldn’t hold our collective breaths for the new era of consistent refereeing even within a game. Nor am I convinced that VAR which will indeed correct some errors, will either be consistently used or yield consistent decisions.

  33. on 02 Apr 2019 at 1:59 pm33bt8

Hopes and prays Anthony Taylor will not be given a role in programming for the VAR program. But he probably will be put in charge of it.

  34. on 02 Apr 2019 at 2:00 pm34bt8

Co-head of programming with Mike Dean?

  35. on 02 Apr 2019 at 2:56 pm35Cynic

Ah but from the ref’s angle, all he saw was the black bit, bath. That’s his story and he’s sticking to it. As am I.

I don’t want VAR, I’d rather have the mistakes, with Warnock frothing at the mouth so much he drowns in it, than have to sit around for five minutes every time someone dives to make them look at a penalty.

If Carlsberg did sporting weeks this would so far be up there. Thank for the news Holic re the U18s that should see them take the title. But you must feel sympathy for the Totts mustn’t you?………..no me neither!
Great stuff by Wolves I thought United might draw there but to lose the loathsome Ashley Young as well makes my cup run over. I just hope Wolves take it easy on us.
Countryman, although I am not an MCC member ( Surrey only) I was a guest of one at a very congenial supper. Derek was in good form.
It just leaves us to hope that the first winners of a match at the new Heaven on Earth sorry Shite Hart Lane are our friends from Palace. A draw would do nicely if Carlsberg have run out of treats.
Many of us are Fantasy Leaguers. Interesting to note that the second bonus ( 2 points ) for our game last night went to ….Mustafi! Pity nobody in the world has him in their team.

Wolves certainly did us a good turn today, but a reminder of what we face when we go there for the penultimate game of the season. Trips to Everton and Watford before that, too. Time to strap in tight.

    @30
Good to hear you are okay Mick.
Hope the dishlickers are bringing you some joy.
The way the boys are playing at the moment must be keeping you going as well.
    Countryman @ 23
So we will get to read at least a couple more of your illuminating away day reads before the season ends.
Although having to wait till the arse end of April for the latest missive,is disappointing.
Unless of course you are going to be at Goodison on Sunday,he says hopefully.
Must admit i was really surprised at Utd ‘s defeat at Wolves.
With Wolves in the semi final FA cup at the w/end,i was sure they would have one eye on that game, and that Utd would get the points,so a real bonus for us in top 4 chase.
As for the under 18’s,as Holic has posted, what a comeback,2 down with 5 minutes to play against the neighbors in a title deciding game, and then to score 3 times to win it was a fantastic testament to the young players and their never say die attitude.
They now have only Reading and Fulham to play away from home, win those 2 and the title is theirs.
And finally a big shout out to Sol Campbell at Macclesfield, still fighting tooth and nail to stay in the football league.
They went to top of the table Lincoln last weekend, and surprised everyone, probably even themselves by coming away with a point in a 1 – 1 draw.
With 6 games left they still have a shout at staying up.
Contrast Sol’s commitment to that of the dirty little grub Paul Scholes, who lasted all of 19 days as manager of Oldham, before running away with his tail between his legs, bleating that the Owner was not supporting him.
    Pathetic.

Fun fact of the day: Ashley Young’s red card was the 100th issued by Mike Dean.

  52. on 02 Apr 2019 at 10:40 pm52ATG

I miss Cazorla badly I watched a clip of him the other day on YouTube dancing with the ball on his feet, what a talent and sad story at the same time, we should have given him at least one year extension, shame and massive one.

Wolves are very hard working and organised, we need to be at our best to beat them.

GS54. Sadly not going to Everton. I was on 23 credits and they sold out at 25. However I’ve been surprised at the fairly low level for Wolves (sold out at 20) and Leicester (start at 25) as both are within easy reach of London.

What a great 24 hours. We win, United lose and Santi has a blinder to help beat Barca. I love that little man.

TTG glad you had a good night at HQ. The Oval is a great ground, but there’s nowhere like Lords. Got your Ashes tix yet?

    Countryman
I’ve got tickets for the first day of the Oval Test and the ODI v Pakistan. I usually do the Lords Test as well but am on hols.I do love my cricket.
I share the sadness that Santi isn’t doing it for us but am overjoyed that he is playing at his best again. I loved having him at Arsenal

They really cannot believe it. They are stunned. They don’t know what to make of it. Arsenal ahead of the clubs they had picked to finish in the top four. They probably need a drink or several to ponder the sober reality of it.

    Cheers, Clive@48.

Dishlicker Dundee Pete did the business for us as expected on Tuesday at Poole, winning by 3.5 lengths, 5/2 down to odds on.

The Arse are also providing terrific entertainment, fingers crossed that tonight’s premier league fixtures can provide us with further sniggers! With both of the long odds on it may be unlikely, but who knows…..

  61. on 03 Apr 2019 at 12:16 pm61Trev

    Excellent write up, Holic.

Finally some time to read all the drinks too – and some gooduns amongst them.

Sorry, Steve, I know where you’re coming from in bemoaning the blaming of officials when it’s used as an excuse for shortcomings in our own performance, but Taylor’s display is exactly what we always get from one of PGMOL’s most inconsistent members.

He has had some corkers against us – Aston Villa, for example, was unforgettable – and Monday was another particularly bad one which others have already picked to pieces above.
What I especially disliked about Monday’s showing, was the boost he seemed to take from the home crowd’s booing of his decisions. His expression and body language betrayed a little adrenalin rush every time he pulled off another howler.

Replays have shown that he disallowed the first goal for something he didn’t see, and the last one for handball by the opposition keeper, which he apparently did see ?

Imagine what this bloke will be able to do when officiating invisibly, with a TV screen, a hundred miles from the pitch ? ?

This has to be a PGMOL ploy to make us grateful for Craig Pawson …….

Despite lunch with a very attractive lady I had to leave the Liverpool Street area mid-afternoon despite a hailstorm as it is full of Totts supporters very excited about tonight’s grand opening. What is the betting they will Spurs it up ?. Come on the Palace !

  63. on 03 Apr 2019 at 6:13 pm63ksn

Almost every pundit is predicting that Spurs and Man Utd will make the top four at the end of the season and Arsenal’s chances being written off due to poor away form and having to play play five of the last seven away. Unai feels we are improving our away form and that should help our chances.
Spurs have two tough champions league matches and a league match against City and their exertions there could lead to dropped points in the league due to their small squad. Man Utd also have to play Chelsea and City which could see them losing points. I fancy our chances over that of Spurs and Utd.

Shame about the win for Spuds at
the Shite Hole, still on the plus side
I read Harry Hoodoo has never
    scored at their new hovel.

Dropped points for Ole and the
Bullshitters makes it a good week
in the 3rd place race though.

Stories of Sánchez and Feo being
sold this summer in the news but
on the other hand Giroud settled
Chav nerves last night. We don’t
care who we unload our past the
sell by date goods to it seems.
Better to flog them in Turin I think.
    Unless it’s Mus of course, I don’t
mind who we sell him to.

A tricky 4 game run coming in the
next 2 weeks, 3 of them away.

    Time to eviscerate, neuter and
    whamdoogle.

I actually think Everton is the
easiest of the four. Anyway, it’s
a good test – we will get more
    points than last season, which
is good of course, but the
    remaining away games will show
    whether we’ve managed to pin
    on some bollocks outside the
    comforts of home.

An intriguing story out of Germany that Hanover 96 have benched on-loan Takuma Asano for the rest of the season to avoid triggering an automatic 3.5 million euros purchase clause in the loan contract that is activated once he plays a given number of minutes among other conditions. I guess they don’t see that much value in a striker who has managed only one goal in 15 games. I doubt we will take him back as he couldn’t get a UK work permit, although he is under contract until mid-2020.
