Gunners Wow The States Again As Fiorentina Are Brushed Aside
Jul 21st, 2019 by 'holic
Eddie Nketiah struck a quarter of an hour into our match with Fiorentina this evening (Saturday but ending Sunday!) and it was no more than we deserved. Having put our mark on the match we wondered if and when the first choice starters would appear, The young Guns have certainly made an impression on this tour.
The Arsenal 1-0 Fiorentina
Olayinka’s effort was close to seeing us double our advantage as the youngsters continued to impress in the opening phases of play.In stifling heat we were making the ball do the work which was impressive to watch.
Emilano Martinez enjoyed an excellent first-half before handing the gloves over to Bernd Leno in the second. When required he was in the right place at the right time. His loan spell at Reading last season has seemingly prepared him for his promotion to our back-up goalkeeper this season. Will he play in the cup ties and Europa League? Let’s hope so.
Leno was called on to make a smart save at the start of the second-half as we adjusted from a back three to a four. At the other end Terraciano was in for a busy spell himself, saving from Reiss Nelson and Alexandre Lacazette before seeing just a yellow card for punching the ball clear when outside of his area.
Around the mid-point of the second-half Lacazette presented yet another opportunity to Nketiah who has the wonderful habit of receiving the ball unmarked in front of goal. It was a second for the young striker and for The Arsenal.
The Arsenal 2-0 Fiorentina
New signing Gabriel Martinelli came on with ten minutes to go and served notice as to his promise with a fine individual run but his attempted finish was wide of the mark. It mattered little as Lacazette again turned provider, this time for Joe Willock, and a comprehensive win was recorded.
The Arsenal 3-0 Fiorentina
The United States tour has been a success so far for the Gunners but without doubt the hardest test remains. At midnight, UK time, on Wednesday we face Real Madrid. Although results at this point of the season mean little it would surely serve some purpose to depart the tour with four morale-boosting wins under the belt?
It’s one last test for the kids to face. They aren’t doing so badly right now.

What a pity Martinelli didn’t score after that wonderful run in on goal. The youngsters looked good, although quite often their end product could have been better. Great to see their competitiveness and desire to win the ball. Shocking tackle on Willock went unpunished. That boy is a real talent.
In comparison, Kolasinac, Mustafi and Xhaka looked less than stellar. Nacho looks his age. We need a quality left back and the quicker Holding returns to the centre of the defence the better.
Adidas already selling a lot of the new kits in the US.

Thanks for report Guv.
I’ve only seen the goals but
Eddie and Joe both finished
well. Hopefully we will see
a bit more of the Young Guns
against Real.
The youngsters seem to add movement at pace, which we were sorely lacking at times in the League last season.
I’m probably alone in this, but I’d quite like it if our interest in Ceballos was actually a blind and we signed Bale instead.
If Iwobi felt he had to leave, whoever we signed, shoulders would be shrugged. Here anyway.
Cheers Holic !
The young’uns do seem to be stepping up – and at a time of real need.
Here’s hoping that young fella in Ireland is doing a little better today too.
Thoughts are firmly with him.
Cynic
Real are not going to loan Bale out and we can’t buy him and Ceballos is a real talent . I very much hope we bring him in. We need a box to box midfielder. These games have shown just how bad our current defence is and we need at least one new CB and to sign Tierney
Trev,
You mean Shane Lowry ??
He’s doing just fine
Lowry’s doing ok even though it’s been raining matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs.
Grateful for the report Gibbs as like Matt, I’ve only seen the goals. Well made and well taken. Pleased to hear the score line was deserved and the kids are living up to their promise.
Apologies Guvna. Damn I-phone spillchucker keeps sneaking Gibbs in when I write Guvna. ?
Cynic @5,
Bale joining us is a stingy 100/1.
Which is six times the price of Sanchez rejoining!
just finished watching the game, i do like the directness and pace of our young guns. time to play the obligatory:

I’m a bit surprised that Bale may
be off to China. I think he still
has something to offer – he won’t
join us though so it’s not important
Not much PL involvement in the
50m plus transfers this summer.
These friendlies mean absolutely nowt once the day job starts for real! Lets hope some of these youngster’s get a chance. Especially the likes of Krystian Bielik, Emile Smith Rowe, Tyreece John-Jules and Bukayo Saka.
Good news for game attending
holics who like a beer.
Camden Town Brewery are
apparently taking over as our
beer suppliers.
No mention of the price of a
decent pint.
Do we have any intelligence on ESR’s long-term fitness? He seems to be being kept in cotton wool on the US tour.
Given the Camden Town Brewery news we now need bar staff who can pour a beer. Ive had many a pint of Tetley’s foam offered offered to me from a clueless student.
Good refreshments especially alcohol are a major source of revenue as the Totts have found but as we know the clueless Gazidis had no idea how to grow revenue . This is an opportunity although I must say I find the refreshment set-up at the Grove underwhelming and very expensive,
